I wouldn't mind getting Johnson or even Wilford at the right price. No doubt we were shallow at the WR spot, and if we do land the first and third, we can use them to address the defense.

Ok, let me throw out another name......
Derrick Ward.
Now I know I'm going to get flamed because people here are loyal to our guys. But I don't think Wright can carry the team if need be, and we haven't seen enough of Harrison. Ward isn't exactly proven, but I watched him often this year, and I liked what I saw. As long as he's recovered from his fracture, he's a guy you can get some real value for. He's not going to command a lot of money, and I think he can be signed for a nice, not-so-steep contract and also contribute.

If he's replacing someone he's replacing Harrison not Wright.
Jason Wright is a smart kid from Northwestern that runs hard, blocks very well and is a trusted backup. He's the kind of player that NE stocks up on and there's no way Wright is the first out the door.
My preference would be to draft a RB in the first 3 rounds to replace Harrison if we're going to do anything with that position. The draft is deep at RB but he has to be a significant upgrade over what we have.
Jason Wright is undervalued by most fans IMO.

By the way.....
Michael Huff is being dangled for a possible trade by the Raiders. I can't say I remember much about him other than he was very highly regarded predraft and was one of the fastest safeties that year. Has he been a bust???
Would anyone be up for a trade of Pool and a second day draft pick for Huff?
Here's his draft bio from footballsfuture.com
Michael Huff DB 6’1 205 Texas By: Robert Davis
NFL Combine Stats: 40-yard dash - 4.34, 225 bench press - 21 reps, vertical jump - 40.5"
Michael Huff has been a playmaker since stepping on to the field as a freshman in 2002 for Texas. He earned freshman All American honors after finishing the season with 70 tackles, 10 for loss, and two interceptions, both of which were returned for touchdowns. As a sophomore, Huff tallied 66 tackles and two interceptions, with both of those being returned for touchdowns. Huff earned All Big 12 and All American honors as a junior, finishing the year with 73 tackles and two picks. Huff had an awesome senior season, racking up 109 tackles, 10 for loss, with two sacks and an interception. He also ran track for Texas in 2004.
Huff is one of the more versatile defensive backs in the draft. He has experience at both safety and corner, and has had success at both. He has a nose for the football at either spot, and breaks well on the ball. Playmaker is the best word to describe Huff. He has all the tools to be a standout defensive back at the next level. He's got good size, he's athletic, and he's fast. His versatility makes him even more intriguing.
Playing both safety and corner has left him a little unpolished at both positions. He needs to show more discipline at safety because he always goes for the big play. At corner, he relies on his athleticism too much and will need work.
Huff has the talent to play whatever position he wants to play. I believe he projects better to safety because he is more ready to play at that position at the next level. He will need some time to learn the corner position. As a free safety, he brings excellent playmaking ability and would be a great cover man for any secondary. Corner is a more valuable position though, and many people will grade him out there. He has a chance to be the first defensive back selected this year.

I would argue the same thing about Harrison as you do of Wright
I think we will not trade cut either of them and keep both. We have good diversity between all 3 backs and the two backups have proven to be good. Harrison has an amazing average for comming off the bench. I think it was 6.2 yards or 6.3.

I like Harrison. He's elusive, has a good burst and is shifty. He lacks that second gear though that you'd ideally like to have in a change of pace back.
I'm all for drafting Chris Johnson out of ECU. He's a good RB with good size but he has great, world class speed. He ran a 4.24 at the combine which is phenominal. It is tied for the fastest electronic time in the history of the combine (electronic timing began in 1990). There are rumors that Deion Sanders and Bo Jackson ran sub 4.2 but not substaniated.
If we end up doing nothing with the RB position I'm fine with that as well.

I know I'm one of the ppl that has love for Harrison but if you look at how much he improved in one year by going to conditioning with Lewis in the offseason... I expect bigger things from Harrison this year especailly with Lewis to take him under his wing. The biggest thing I'm expecting out of him is more improvement in his blocking.
i'm not a big fan of the 40 times... I think there are 40 times and then game time. Harrison ran a 4.51 that's more fast then slow. Harrison looks faster on film. He has that quuick first step the ability to make a quick cut and accelerates to his top speed fast. He is more of a Tackle to Tackle back but He gets positive yards and makes something out of nothing when he is given the chance. Breakaway speed happens about 3 times a season. I don't think it's as big of a deal as people make it out to be. JMHO
besides all that savage said the other day that he was happy with his RB position

http://www.profootballtalk.com/rumormill.htmPOSTED 12:42 a.m. EST, February 29, 2008 BERRIAN TO VISIT VIKES Barely a half hour into free agency, and the Vikins have set up a Friday visit with Bears receiver Bernard Berrian. Berrian wants a contract that pays out $24.5 million over the first three years, and that includes $12 million guaranteed. He would provide a deep threat for the Vikings' West Coast offense. Have a guy who can stretch the field opens up the various underneath routes in the system.

Looks like the Vikes are stepping up early. SMITH TO VISIT VIKES As owner Zygi Wilf's plane heads to California to fetch receiver Bernard Berrian, the Vikes also have made arrangements for a Friday visit from Bengals defensive end Justin Smith. Smith played for Vikings defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier when Frazier worked in that same role with the Bengals. The Vikings have a need for help at defensive end because Kenechi Udeze recently was diagnosed with leukemia. Smith was Cincinnati's franchise player in 2007. http://www.profootballtalk.com/rumormill.htm

SAMUEL VISITING EAGLES
Alex Marvez of FOXSports.com reports that free-agent cornerback Asante Samuel will visit the Eagles on Friday.
On Thursday night, it was reported that Samuel already has a deal in place with the Eagles.
Samuel is looking for at least $10 million per year.

I don't understand the lovefest for Smith. He is listed at 275, too small to play end for us. He could bulk up, but asking a player to put on 20 or 30 pounds in one offseason could be asking a bit much. Plus, it has been rumored that he will get anywhere from 7 to 8.5 million per year.
I also think that if and when this Williams trade goes through, there is no need for Smith at all.

Tyler Brayton-DL- Raiders Feb. 29 - 12:53 am et Scout.com's Adam Caplan reports the Panthers have set up a visit with free agent DL Tyler Brayton.
Brayton, like current Panther Damione Lewis, can play tackle and end, though he's fallen far short of expectations since being a 2003 first-round pick. Related: Panthers
http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playernews.aspx?sport=NFL This is one of the guys I would like us to bring in, and sign. He was top 10 on my list until all the tags (and resigning) started flying, now he is top 2 or 3.
The guy is described by coaches as 'versatile and a hard worker, not great at any one thing, but good against the run and pass'. I figured he would be a great rotational guy, that wouldn't cost a lot, comparatively.
Statistics are like a bikini; what they show is interesting, but what they hide is vital. Drive for show (1st round), Putt for dough (rest of draft).

Anyone else think this would be just a GREAT pickup for us. I mean the guy had 6 sacks last year in what was not really full time action right? He probably comes at a price much better than someone like Pace or a Briggs (who shouldn't be an OLB in our D anyway but is still talked about) at the same level of productivity. He would be great.

unrelated to the LaBoy stuff...
lookin at wideouts.
Ernest Wilford Bryant Johnson Jabar Gaffney would all be tolerable signings...good even,
but a guy that should be on our radar, that go no love in Buffalo
Sam Aiken...I like the guy, and he could easily become our #2 by midseason if JoeJ and our WRs coach do work.
Also, Samie Parker is a UFA. He's worth a look, never got many balls in KC because they all went to Gonzalez or no where.
Troy Walters could work the slot for us. He got shuffled out of Detroit by drafting a 1st rounder every year, and Mike Furrey becoming dynamite. He'd be good.
I still love Troy Brown too
im also surprised i havent heard the name Devery Henderson. He was great til Colston exploded. He's a guy we should look at. After a down year this year his stock is low. Could be cheap, and a good #2.
all guys i would like to look at

You know, there's still a WR out there named Moss that isn't signed. Could you imagine Moss, KW2 and Edwards all lined up on opening day.....

Free-agent central: Pair of trades highlight flurryby FOXSports.com Updated: February 29, 2008, 3:20 AM EST 6 comments RSS digg blog email print Jonathan Vilma finally got his wish — to get out from under Jets head coach Eric Mangini. The Jets have agreed in principle to send the Pro Bowl linebacker to the New Orleans Saints for a conditional draft pick, FOXSports.com's Jay Glazer reported. The pick will be based on Vilma's playing time, as he's coming off major knee surgery. Although there had been reports that the Lions were the frontrunners to acquire Vilma, ultimately the Saints came away with the 6-foot-1, 230 pounder. Read more right here. Packers trade DT Looking to improve its defense, Cleveland has acquired an anchor for the front four. The Green Bay Packers have agreed in principle to trade defensive tackle Corey Williams to the Browns for a second-round pick, FOXSports.com's Jay Glazer reported. Read more right here. In other news from Jay Glazer, New England's Donte' Stallworth is visiting the Browns, Atlanta's Rod Coleman is checking out the Panthers, Cincinnati's Justin Smith is looking at the 49ers, Jacksonville's Bobby McCray is visiting the Saints and Chicago's Bernard Berrian and Cincinnati's Madieu Williams are looking at the Vikings. Race for Steelers' Faneca It's a three-team race for Pittsburgh guard Alan Faneca. FOXSports.com's Alex Marvez has learned that Faneca is receiving strong interest from San Francisco, St. Louis and the New York Jets. Faneca doesn't plan on making any free-agent visits while mulling impending contract offers but hopes to make a decision between those squads within the next 48 hours. Getting Corey Williams for a 2nd rounder would be SWEET!!! But, I think we should sign him as part of the deal. Stalloworth would be a great pickup for us and would really help us stretch the field. This is GREAT news.

I'm prety sure he was a Pro Bowl Alternate... He was only light in the ass for us because of our scheme. He went to NO and started to really accell. I think he will do just fine in Tampa. He doesn't have to face nearly as many 3-4 teams as he did here. I think Tampa plays 3 3-4 teams this.

Early signings by Dolphins, 49ers kick off frantic free-agency period By John Clayton ESPN.com (Archive) Updated: February 29, 2008, 6:55 AM ET Comment Email Print Everyone expected a quick start to free agency, but the limited market of players made things even crazier than normal Friday morning. Less than a hour after the 12:01 a.m. start to free agency, the Dolphins reached a five-year, $25 million deal with 49ers guard Justin Smiley that included a $9 million guarantee. The Raiders quickly made contact with 49ers tackle Kwame Harris and may try to do something at a similar price although talks are in the early stages. The 49ers wasted no time hitting their free agency shopping list. They agreed with Vikings linebacker Dontarrious Thomas on a two-year deal and allowed Lions quarterback J.T. O'Sullivan to be re-united with new 49ers offensive coordinator Mike Martz by agreeing to a one-year, $645,000 contract. The 49ers also locked up a two-year, $1.8 million deal with former Panthers halfback DeShaun Foster and a one-year, $870,000 deal with kick-returner/cornerback Allen Rossum, a former Steeler. The post-midnight contact for Steelers guard Alan Faneca set the stage for a possible $8 million-a-year deal before Monday. The 49ers, Rams and Jets contacted Faneca's agent, Rick Smith, after midnight to set up visits. Faneca plans to spend Friday mapping out plans and visit a team Sunday. The Cardinals expressed interest in Faneca but indicated to him they couldn't do an $8 million-a-year deal now because of Larry Fitzgerald's contract. Fitzgerald has a $16.48 million cap number this year and the team hasn't been able to restructure his contract. The phone was busy for Patriots cornerback Asante Samuel, with the Eagles making the early calls and winning the first visit. Samuel is hoping to get a five-year, $50 million or six-year, $62 million contract. Things were tight-lipped around Randy Moss, the Patriots' receiver who wasn't franchised and is technically a free agent. Many believe he will re-sign in New England, but there was no deal in place at the start of free agency. The Falcons contacted Seahawks kicker Josh Brown and also tried to convince Chargers running back Michael Turner to make a visit on Friday. The Panthers convinced Raiders defensive end Tyler Brayton to make Carolina his first visit. The Vikings and 49ers battled it out to convince Bengals defensive end Justin Smith, but Smith informed the 49ers he will make San Francisco his first stop. Late deals to keep players prevented some suitors from getting visits. Defensive tackle Brian Young is considering an offer to re-sign with the Saints and declined a visit. Chris Redman is considering re-signing with the Falcons. Plenty of trades are expected to be announced Friday. The Packers traded franchise defensive tackle Corey Williams to the Browns for a second-round choice. Williams is expected to sign a six-year, $38 million contract. The Saints are close to finishing a trade for Jets linebacker Jonathan Vilma. Panthers defensive tackle Kris Jenkins is heading to the Jets for a third- and fifth-round pick. Vikings wide receiver Troy Williamson will go to the Jaguars for a sixth-round pick. Lions defensive tackle Shaun Rogers and Jaguars defensive tackle Marcus Stroud are also on the trading block and deals could move quickly involving them. Holy Crap!
If we get Donte Stallworth...
Stallworth is the perfect #2 and would complete our WR squad. COME ON PHIL GET IT DONE!
2 years ago ppl were talking about how he was a cancer in the clubhouse... i wonder if that has changed. Don't forget he's still in the substance abuse program and if he gets caught again... 4 game suspension. The upside is He's 27 and in his prime. He has great hands and was stuck behind 2 stars in NE. What's really interesting is that in 2007 he signed a 6 year 30 million dollar contract and NE let him walk by not picking up his option.
Do they know something we don't?

Williams is expected to sign a six-year, $38 million contract.
not a bad contract, 6.3 mil per year. Good deal. This gives us three DL It wouldnt suprise me to see the Browns sign a couple of released D-Lineman.

Great hands? They have gotten better, but are still below average.
