bengals.com is reporting that the deal is for the bengals' 3rd and 5th round pick in the upcoming draft.

Unbelieveable...what a steal for the Bengals.
Matt Millen is such a terrible GM.

I think the Bengals made a good trade...If I was Millen I would have tried to get a 3rd and 4th, but oh well, get what you can get.
After think about it for about 10-15 minutes, the trade is actually pretty even and makes sense.

So expect a good year from him the first year, then the rest he takes off. Rogers is good when he actually tries, but the guy just doesn't have the drive to become consistently great.
On another note, the trade seems fair to me. I felt like the Lions would probably ask for a second but get a third and a later day 2 pick.

He was accused of hitting a stripper either last year or this year, plus in general he's viewed as a big baby.
Basically the Bengals got Sam Adams all over again.

No Samuels for us: http://www.nfl.com/news/story;jsessionid...mp;confirm=trueEagles sign free-agent cornerback Samuel to six-year deal Associated Press Ben Liebenberg / NFL.com Asante Samuel spent the first five years of his career in New England. PHILADELPHIA --The Eagles have signed free-agent cornerback Asante Samuel. The Eagles agreed to a six-year, $57 million contract on Friday -- a deal that includes $20 million in guaranteed money and $32 million in the first three years of the contract. Samuel spent the last five seasons with New England and had 16 interceptions the last two years. Samuel also tied the NFL career playoff record with three interceptions returned for TDs. Philadelphia had only 11 interceptions last year and failed to score a defensive touchdown. Its defense had an NFL-worst 19 takeaways. The Eagles will likely trade or shift positions for either Lito Sheppard or Sheldon Brown. Samuel, a two-time Pro Bowl selection with two Super Bowl rings, has 22 career interceptions. He was protected by New England last year by the franchise player tag. Copyright 2008 by The Associated Press

Meh, we didn't really need him. Our DB's will look a lot better with a D-line that can pressure the QB (see DA and our O-line in 07).
It's good though. It weakens an AFC team we might see in the pla....I won't say it.

I like Stallworth, but prefer Bryant Johnson over any of the other FA's WR available.
I do expect the Browns to sign a WR and move JJ to the slot.
Ditto.
I'd love to get Johnson in here. Watching him, he's a solid WR. He just had 2 great guys overshadowing him.
Yep, Johnson and D.J. Hackett are the only intriguing FA WRs to me. I say meh to Stallworth, Berrian, and pretty much any other WR.

Feb. 29, 2008 - 4:34 p.m. ET The Bears are working to set up a visit with free agent WR Bryant Johnson. It'd be Johnson's first visit. He could be in Chicago by early next week. It's no surprise that the overrated wideout isn't being highly sought after. Source: Chicago Sun Times
Feb. 22, 2008 - 1:05 p.m. ET The Broncos are reportedly considering free agents Bryant Johnson and Bernard Berrian to pair with Brandon Marshall in 2008. Johnson will come considerably cheaper than Berrian. Randy Moss is also said to be on Denver's radar, though he's not expected to leave Foxborough. How in he heck did the Bengals acquire a top3 nose tackle for a third and a fifth? Ugh. Oh well, I hope they switch to a 3-4... they have no linebackers!

ROGERS TRADE OFF Posted by Mike Florio on February 29, 2008, 8:18 p.m. The trade between the Lions and the Bengals for defensive tackle Shaun Rogers is apparently off. According to Mike O’Hara of the Detroit News, the deal was not consummated and the Lions will be looking to send Rogers elsewhere. The two teams had agreed that Rogers would head to the Bengals for a third-round and a fifth-round pick. In our view, that’s not bad news for the Bengals. Maybe it means that someone within the organization raised an alarm about the 2007 allegations against Rogers regarding his conduct in a strip club. Though he wasn’t charged, is that really the kind of guy that the team should be signing giving its recent history of struggles with off-field issues? http://beta.profootballtalk.com/2008/02/29/rogers-trade-off/http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080229/SPORTS0101/802290460/1126

I've never really watched this guy before but according to ESPN he's 6"0 223lbs, for a LB you've got to be kidding me.
If we were to sign him I'd recommend that he gain at least 10 pounds or more, eat some ribs, some popcorn, whatever you gotta do. I know Dquell isn't all that big but he's at least 240.
If the guy doesn't gain some weight, don't pick him up. But as I've said before those are JMO's, I haven't seen him play, has anyone???
Find what you love and let it kill you.

The guy is blindingly fast, In fact the year the Broncos went to the AFC Championship game against the Steelers, that is what the Defense completely relied on... you had the front four eating up blocks (cept for Trevor Price who made every play on that line).
And then in the Mid-Field you had DJ Williams on one side Ian on the other and then Al Wilson in the middle. That whole LB corp completely relied on speed and superior coverage from John, Champ, Darrant Williams and to a lesser Extent Dominique Foxworth when nickel.
I guess maybe he isn't a good fit with this D but whoever picks him up ends up with a steal.

The market should now be set for DE's, Smith is probably going to be the highest paid out there.
http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playernews.aspx?sport=NFL&line=113484 Justin Smith-DL- 49ers Mar. 1 - 10:29 am et 49ers signed DE Justin Smith to a six-year, $45 million contract. The deal includes $20 million in guarantees.
He never made it to Minneapolis. Smith, the No. 4 pick in 2001, will be used often with his hand up in San Francisco's 3-4, allowing Tully Banta-Cain to be a nickel rusher. He'll also see a good amount of action at end in the Niners' 4-3 fronts. Smith hasn't played linebacker as a pro, but has the motor and athleticism to be effective there. His two-sack 2007 season while being constantly double-teamed doesn't bother us as much as Smith getting a megadeal after seven years of wear and tear. He likely won't finish the deal. j/c One of our own (kinda) has been signed away. I don't think Colclough was ever activated for a game with us, but thought we might try to keep him with the lose of Leigh. In addition to adding others via FA and if we have any picks for the draft. Ricardo Colclough-DB- Panthers Mar. 1 - 2:41 pm et Panthers signed CB Ricardo Colclough to a two-year, $4 million deal.
It's amazing a failed corner like Colclough, who washed out in Pittsburgh and Cleveland, can still get a decent deal this early in free agency. He is most likely to play on special teams.

Just curious, by "second day" do you mean the old second day, round 4-7, or the new second day, rounds 3-7. I can never tell any more, darn NFL changing the rules.

A league source tells PFT that several teams are showing preliminary interest in trading for cornerback Lito Sheppard. Those teams include the Texans, Saints, Buccaneers, Browns, Rams and Jets.
I'd offer our 3rd next year and a 6th this year for Sheppard. He's a good corner......really don't see why Philly wants to move him? Especially given how reasonable his contract is.

If his contract is reasonable, then I'm wondering as well.
Lito Sheppard and Asante Samuel? That's by far the best tandem in the NFL.

I know they got samuel but you still need 2 corners. Sheppard signed an 8 year, 26 million dollar deal. That's absolutely nothing for the quality of player he is. It seems a bit odd they want to trade a guy who's only making 3 million a year (and made a pro bowl no less).
