Just a piece of info I thought I'd throw out there that doesn't really pertain to anything, just thought you guys would like to hear it.

The local morning sports talk show down here in Charlotte is giving the Browns some love. They have pretty much ruled out the Panthers in the DA rumours, but they really like what the Browns are doing with DA and aquiring Williams. They also don't think the Browns are done dealing and that DA will NOT be in a cleveland uniform next yr.

Again, nothing really important, just thought it was good to hear our Browns getting a little love down here in the south.

Now........can someone give me some info on Williams, I'll be honest and say I didn't even have this guy on my radar. Is he suited for the 3-4? How will he do in clogging up lanes? Run stuffer or Pass Rusher or (hopefully) a little of both? Any type of scouting report would be appreciated, his college one doesn't really help me alot.

From what I've read he will play the left end to bookend Shaun Smith. Played a NT at some point previously but will be better suited at end in our system. Can sack the QB (14 sacks in last two seasons) but will be used primarily as a run-stuffer. A hog-molly who can eat up blockers, let our outside guys get pressure on the QB, and allow our linebackers to shoot gaps and make tackles at the point of attack.

Mike Florio, profootball.talk.com was on Dan Patrick reporting that the Falcons may dangle their 3rd overall to the Browns for DA.

Sounds a bit farfetched to me, but hey, they must pay an unproven guy out of the draft more than Anderson will command I imagine.

If it happens, would we stay at #3?

How about A big fast RB with the initials DM !

We have the cap space.

Parlay that into many picks over the next two years would be awesome!

Still sounds too far out there for me.

If true, wouldn't THAT be interesting?. That would give us lots of potential options.

1. We could stay at #3 and pick up a stud (we certainly have cap room to do so).

2. We could, perhaps, call our old friends the Cowboys and see if they would be interested in moving up to get a guy like McFadden for their two firsts.

3. We could entertain offers from other teams wanting to move up.

Huh... I'm not holding my breath on that one at all, but it's fun to speculate about what COULD happen.

I would rather have Atlanta's 2nd this year and 1st next year over the 3rd overall pick this year.

But, at 3...we either get:

1. Chris Long - best DE prospect that could even play some situational OLB for us
2. Sedrick Ellis - Dorsey doesn't fit a 3-4...but Ellis could play NT or DE in it.
3. Jake Long - shock the world baby...we'd have the best OL in the NFL.

Yeah, yeah...there's that McFadden fellow as well. I'd rather have one of the above though.

While it's nice to dream, it really doesn't seem feasible. Plus, Phil told DA's agents that he wouldn't accept anything less than a 1st AND a 3rd round pick for him. So I doubt Phil goes back on his word to move all the way up to #3 overall. At that position, we would pay a huge amount of money to whoever we signed and I think we need to be a little more thrifty with our cap space. Besides, Atlanta has been purging its roster since the season ended so they could get younger and start rebuilding. They have far too many holes to be giving up draft picks already. I think they'll draft Ryan out of BC with the #3 pick. JMHO.

Yes and probably draft one of the following - Chris Long, Glenn Dorsey, Vernon Gholston (perfect outside of Wimbley) or my favorite, Darren McFadden... Could you imagine how ridiculous our offense would be with Jamal/McFadden, and while Jamal finishes up his career we have one of the best young backs in the league!?

I could see phil taking the #3 pick off their hands without getting a third roudn pick

I doubt the Falcons will get rid of that pick.

They are however close to moving Deanglo Hall who will net them a 1st rounder.

The Giants are a team interested....I could see them shipping that pick(#31) and their top of the 3rd round pick for DA.

If the Browns would decide to give up DA for the 3 pick, why would the falcons draft a QB at No. 3?
Wouldn't you rather have a QB that you at least KNOW can play at this level?
If I were in Phil's place and I could get the 3 pick for Anderson I would say where do I sign up from here.
I would then turn around and say to Dallas if McFadden is there how about your 2 first rounders for the No. 3 pick?
You then could fill 2 holes with one DA.

The Associated Press reports Cleveland Browns QB Derek Anderson has rejected the team's offer for a three-year contract worth $20 million with $10 million guaranteed. Anderson is now a restricted free agent and on the free-agent market. If Anderson signs with another team, the Browns would receive a first- and third-round draft pick as compensation.

Thats the only thing I can find...maybe a sign and trade...I don't know

Try this...

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3270420

Cleveland Browns quarterback Derek Anderson wasn't a free agent for long.

Anderson has agreed to a multiyear contract to stay with the Browns, a person familiar with the negotiations told The Associated Press. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the contract had not been completed.

General manager Phil Savage believed if Anderson had gotten an offer from another team, the Browns probably wouldn't have been able to keep him.

The team had been negotiating a three-year, $20 million deal for Anderson.

The 24-year-old signed with Cleveland just hours after he became a restricted free agent.

Oh, I still can't believe what's happening. First we do the trade, and then we may move up into the first and it's possible to get DMC. I'm so excited I'm about to pee my pants....

Wow, the word check blocked out pi$$.

We aren't trading DA. We aren't getting DMC. We aren't getting any new picks for draft day.

Friday's roundup: Browns to acquire DT Williams
NFL.com Wire Reports

NFL Network's Adam Schefter is reporting that the Cleveland Browns will trade their 2008 second-round pick to Green Bay for defensive tackle Corey Williams. Cleveland then will agree to a deal with Williams that pays him $18 million in guaranteed money and $23 million in the first three years of the deal.

Williams had been tagged last week as Green Bay's franchise player. He played in all 16 games, including nine starts, in 2007 and set career highs with 51 tackles and 32 solo stops. He tied his career high with seven sacks.

Bucs sign Faine: The Tampa Bay Buccaneers made Jeff Faine the highest-paid center in the game, accoring to Schefter, signing the former Saint to a six-year, $37.5 million deal, including $15 million in guaranteed money. The deal will pay Faine $20 million in the first three years.

AP is now talking like it's a 3rd rounder:

Yahoo Link

"Also Friday, the Browns were nearing a trade for Green Bay defensive tackle Corey Williams.

"Williams, who tied a career-high with seven sacks last season, was designated as the Packers’ franchise player last week. The Browns were expected to send a third-round draft pick to the Packers for the 6-foot-4, 313-pound lineman."

Does it seem to anyone else that it's really still a foreign feeling that we are able to acquire people who we need? Last year, we needed OL and a good RB. We get a Pro-Bowler, an Alternate Pro Bowler, and a 1,300 yard rusher.

It's a great change of pace fo sho G!

I specifically looked at williams wihen he was playing with Green Bay, because I knew that he would be a free agent.

He is a good player and worth the pick and the contract. Given the Browns woes at DL, they need players, and not just three. Green Bay had a rotation of about 6 players to keep the DL fresh, and that is where the Browns should be going.

I would not be surprised to see another DL signed.

Good deal. Lock him up while he's in his prime.

Draft day will be quite boring, but it will make the season more exciting.

Season won't be exiting either…
I guess we had more then one hole to fill with on defense. Between William’s 38 mil and DA’s 24 mil. How much room we have to improve our defense?

And we don’t have 1st day pick ……

I am ok with trade for William’s…..not so happy with DA’s signing
