Fourth-year defensive lineman had a breakout year in 2006, settling into a starting role at defensive tackle and amassing career highs in sacks (7) and tackles (47) Turned in the first-ever three-sack game by a Packers defensive tackle (at Buffalo, Nov. 5, 2006) Is capable of playing every position on the defensive line, a key reason he was drafted in the sixth round in 2004 Overcame several personal tragedies prior to entering the NFL. His first daughter was born prematurely, Feb. 1, 2004, and passed away two weeks later, just prior to his trip to the 2004 NFL Scouting Combine. This was reported in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinal this morning, so someone knew about it....they reported a 2nd round draft choice as well

DA moved to one of teams at the top of the draft. Browns get Glen Dorsey with the pick. I guess I didnt insinuate it well enough. Oh well...know you know what I meant

For the last time, Glenn Dorsey does not fit the 3-4 at all. He is a pure 4-3 or cover 2 DT. Ellis could probably play in the 3-4, Long could play linebacker or end in the 3-4, and Gholston could play linebacker in a 3-4. Gholston and Long would be better in a 3-4. If the Browns have a pick where we can get Glenn Dorsey, we will not pick him.

If we were going to move DA to one of the teams with a top pick, then why did we just sign him.
Maybe because we like having signing bonuses hit our cap?

Some people still don't realize that the dream of trading DA for a 1st rounder is dead, because of the 12 million cap hit it would cost. If you don't understand the cap it can be confusing I guess.
So to end further ???s about DA being traded..............
1. DA was signed for 12 million guaranteed.........
2. If we trade DA get's traded then we take ALL of the 12 million cap hit this year.
3. This eliminates any scenerio where DA isn't a Brown this year
DA isn't getting traded, and he will be the QB come game 1. Now will he stay that way is the big ???.

He played DT in Packer land, but he'll be a DE here, becuase he isn't a 34 Nose imo. However, guy is right Dorsey isn't a good fit for our version of the 34. He's a shoot gapper who might fit okay with a 34 like the Pats run, but he isn't a space eating NT that fits our scheme well at all. I could see him playing DE here maybe, but that would be a real waste of his talent.

I mean, that's not necessarily true, the contract could be built sketchily in order to allow a cheap sign and trade, i.e
$24 million, 15 million guaranteed, no signing bonus
clause that all the guaranteed money becomes a signing bonus if he gets traded
clause that if he isn't traded with in 6 weeks, the money becomes a signing bonus
then we trade him within the next 6 weeks without a cap hit, and we can now trade him for say, a first round pick instead of a first and third.

The big problem is that if we signed him to a deal like that, we would have already set up the trade before we signed him, because we wouldn't have locked him into a specific deal, unless the other team had agreed to it. I think we would have heard of that other team by now because that's the part you would hear first, the fact that we signed him would become a detail.

Yeah, i'm not exactly sure how many people have said this so far ...
Guaranteed doesn't always equal signing bonus. We can't speculate on his sign and trade capabilities w/out knowing the specifics of the contract like Lyuokdea said.

I agree with the premise that the chances of DA going are slim to none, but most of this post is completely false.
It is true DA signed for around 12 to 14 gaurnteed, but this would not be our cap hit if he left.
Guaranteed money refers to the signing bonus plus the first year contract.
If DA is traded we are liable for his signing bonus and not his salary. Therefor the cap hit for DA being traded is unknown at this time because we do not know the signing bonus.

If you honestly believe that DA signed a contract in which he didn't get a SB and the guaranteed money is defered or done in a different way your dead wrong. Why would he give us the power to make a decision he could have made himself if the interest was there??? It's going to work out where probably 12 million is SB, and the other 2.5 million is a roster bonus at the start of the season. No way Dunn and DA sign a contract where the guarantee isn't up front this soon in the process if most of the guaranteed money wasn't SB.......that was my point. I should have articulated it better, but I just figured most would put it together and realize that unless DAs agent is a complete tool he wouldn't sign that type of deal and take away his players right to determine where he goes. Oh and for the sign and trade folks who think DA cut the deal and then Opie signed off on it..........why do this when we could have played hardball a little longer and at least tried for a 1st and 3rd?? Remember this was signed just hours after FA opened. If we did a S&T it would be because we were willing to take less than the tender (which Savage said we wouldn't), and I seriously doubt that we didn't try to push up the offer after only hours of negotiating with the said team.
So I say again there is no trade coming folks, and yes it would cost us about 12 million if we did.........or DAs agent is a total waste of space.

Allow me to be one of the first to disagree. It is not moot by a long shot. There are a ton of players out there just got re-signed just like DA did. It would not be a reach to say to these teams, OK...you take mine with his baggage and I'll take yours.

Pretty excited for this trade - if it had been for a third rounder I'd be off the friggin' wall. As it is, we're already addressing our line. Let's get a guy or two in free agency and we'll already be much better off than last year.

Guaranteed money doesn't have to mean in the form of a signing bonus.
You can guarantee a players second year. If you trade him before the second year, the team that takes on the contract is on the hook for the 2nd year.

You are correct,but you missed Willie's point about DA and his agent not signing such a bizzare contract.
I realize you are not one of the posters who want so badly to see DA traded for picks.And as Willie has tried to convey,it aint goin to happen now.
You're a common sense guy with an understanding of the negotiation process and contracts.so you know,deep down that this is a standard NFL contract,with a pro-rated signing bonus and all the other minutiae that bore people to death.Nothing bizzaro,nothing out of the ordinary.

Thank you..........I don't understand why people continue to believe that DA and his agent are that stupid. Dunn would be the dumbest agent in the history of pro sports if he agreed to that kind of contract that quickly..............as bad as Dropcutt's, and maybe worse.
It's over folks...........no trade.........no 1st rounder this year.........DA will be the QB at the beginning of next year..........period.

an excellent trade. A 6 year 38 million deal will prove to be a great deal for this guy.  i doubt the 56 pick would have brought the impact that this guy will bring. The first day of the draft is going to be pretty boring though.
