units:
1a-Defense
1b-Offense (IMO, you can't put 1 over the other b/c you can't leave either unit far behind in the building process and expect to win many games)
2-STs
positions:
1-QB (can't avoid that one...we have one currently playing below avg.)
2-LT (ok, maybe some bias here, but a cornerstone of all good offenses...we don't have one)
3a-C
3b-NT (b/c the middle of the lines should define the attitude, IMO, and they have a lot to say about the golden key in the NFL...running and stopping the run, which are equally important...got a great C who may never play again, and a once-great, soon-to-be coaching NT)
5-S (organize the DBs and act as the enforcers...we're in pretty good shape here)
6-RB (if you can't run the ball, well, you can't do much of anything else...see Browns' 2006 season)
7-OLB (slightly ahead of the ILB, simply b/c they provide more passrush in our scheme, and so they're affecting pass game as much as the run game...we've got a stud in the making, and a stud in the breaking)
8-ILB (without talent and expereince here, guys fail to attack the right gaps, and opponents are gonna have a 4 ypc avg. no matter how good your NT is...we've got some hope here between the two rooks)
9a-WR/TE (i wouldn't have said this before the year started, but the Pats' struggles and the TO/Braylon influence lifts the position for me...you need guys with BOTH talent AND humility...we've got 1, and 3 more currently lacking the humility part...yeah i haven't forgot Wilson's 'best WR in the draft' comment)
9b-CB (not so much for the 'shut-down' aspect, which is almost a myth, but b/c they're a huge part of having a good TO ratio, aka the single most improtant statistic in the game...IF we ever get Baxter back, i don't expect he'll be what he was, so really, we'll have 1 starter and 2 nickel guys at that point...the draftees have shown nothing)
so by my count, we only need to improve 7/10 positions to compete! <img src="/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />
