I hadn't seen a post on this yet.
He seemed to be off this year.
Was there a nagging injury we weren't told about? Personal issues? Holder issues? This seemed to be a bad year for Phil, and I hope it was just a funk or some underlying issue he gets resolved during the offseason. Because that would be one less hole to worry about.
We don't have to agree with each other, to respect each others opinion.

Phil has had a lot of family issues to deal with. He will be back to his normal accurate self next year.

Mourg is correct. Phil did have a lot of personal issues family issues to deal with this year. Did they make a difference in his play? I guess we will find out next year. He started out the season great, and finished it up looking pretty bad.

I have had family issues in the past. Didn't affect my job performance.

Family issues... not a good enough excuse, IMO. The guy had a bad second half, a kicker's slump.

Phil has had a lot of family issues to deal with. He will be back to his normal accurate self next year. I don't know anything about the family issues. Before hearing about that, I was going on (more off of memory than stats or anything) - it sure seemed like we were constantly asking him to make something over 40 yards - and that's never been his strength. The longer the kick, the more variables that come into play - particularly when you're leg isn't on the stronger side.

I remember Danielle posting something awhile back.

If he can't concentrate for 3 hours once a week, he is too weak minded to be on this team. If his son was/is sick and dying, well that may be a different story, however then Phil has some priority issues.

What kind of family issues? Did I miss something? I am not going to get into that, and like I said did that effect his preformance? I don't know, but I know family is 100 percent more important than any job.

I decided to delete this because it's not worth arguing about it with 50 posters.

Something pretty severe having to do with his kid. I remember Danielle posting something awhile back. Let's hope Phil doesn't mind a team insider yapping about his son's health on a message board. For what its worth - she was very discrete. Just said something to the affect of "we should all pray for his daughter". No details of any kind that I recall.

Well, whatever it is, I wish him the best. He sucked this year, but he has been one of the few things we have had going for us the past few years.
When will this end?

I agree and its not even the points, so much, as it is just another thing that kept knocking the wind out of our sails. Missed FGs, dropped passes, and turn overs all killed us mentally as much as anything this year.

Well I changed my original post (too late now cuz you guys quoted it! ), not because I changed my mind about my opinion, only because I don't feel like getting drawn and quartered here.

I think the family issueshad a small part of the in problem,But i also think this teams problems with the constant poor preformance had a part also .Kind of like the one player with a bad attitude spreads to 2 and 2 to 4 and so on. It's hard to see someone who made something like the first 27 a year or two ago go to making 75% (ex) [img][image] http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y105/thepitdog/topdawg.jpg[/img][/image]

If he couldn't keep his head focused at work for only 3hrs a week then he should have spoke up and stepped away from the game if he wasn't strong enough to handle the situation. Problems at home need to be left at home and should not effect job performance. I hope it was just a slump and he has a solid season next year.

As for being strong, a real man who goes to work and does his job even in the face of family problems is a strong man, so forget about this "weak" crap.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

As for the 3hrs a week, I thought it was an obvious over exaggeration. Dawson is obviously at team meetings and practice. As for being considered a strong man because he works in the face of adversity, give me a break, that is a part of life. You play the cards you're dealt. According to you, if you work while there are problems at home you are hero. Anyway don't mean to argue with you over a moot point. So Happy New Year

6 of Dawson's 8 misses were from 40 yards plus. I'd say we all knew he didn't have the strongest leg in the world and even then he is still a pretty darn good kicker. Hopefully he can bounce back and have a better year next season.

Phil Dawson has not used any family illness as a reason for a poor finish at the end of this season. If his child is very ill we should attempt to support his family with thoughts and prayers. I have had a gravely ill son who went thru chemo, radiation treatment and major surgery before he was 5 years old and it is very tough on all. Give the guy the benefit of the doubt and get off his back. Besides, if he made all the field goals[and somehow won another game or two] some of us would be mad that he cost us a higher draft selection. Give me a break

Geez, didn't want to start a war. Was a simple question directed toward those of you in the NE ohio area that get alot more team news and rumors than those of us in Pirate and Fish territory.

What the hell are they putting in the Gatorade at Berea? Exactly what i was thinking. I think they need some better Doctors / Medical Staff up there in Berea. Maybe add some extra padds and tape to everyone before practices so no one will get hurt....
