I'm looking at our current roster, and I think we are Super Bowl competitors. We look GREAT on paper as Rac would say.

The only thing about this year, is our schedule, but at the same time, I don't think many teams will be able to contain our offense. And with our defensive front three molding together, our defense COULD be crazy with a great defensive scheme.

Remember.. it was reported that the Giants beat the Patriots with the Browns defensive game plan.

I'm looking for our LB's to all have a great year. I'm really hoping that Marcus Howard of UGA is one of Phil's day two targets. He could be the missing link to help Wimbley BLAST off of the edge to wreck havoc.

There's nothing like trying to tackle a 400 pounder with a bit of momentum. Once he got up to speed it would have been like trying to stop a locomotive. I really didn't expect him to be able to do that.

He sounds to me like someone who needed a change of pace and knows he's where he needs to be. Imagine how hooked he'll be when he steps onto the field for the first home game. It's one thing to play at a high level because you are getting paid a bundle for it. It's another thing entirely to do it because people also appreciate your effort. I don't mean this as a knock against Detroit but the atmosphere there has to be mildly toxic these days.

Remember the days when going to Cleveland was like being sent to a Gulag?

Did you read the rest of the article?

"I've managed to play good football throughout my career and life," Rogers said. "I don't think it's going to be an issue here. We're all going to be in agreement. Whatever [the weight limit] turns out to be, I'm going to meet those standards and play good ball ."

If he's in here all off-season working out, I'm not going to get concerned about his ability to meet weight requirements. Now, if he skips everything and shows up to OTAs weighing 400lbs, then I'll gladly join the haters. But he seems committed to doing whatever it takes to do well by the Browns at this point.

Kard...sure did read all of it.

Rogers is saying, let me take care of my own weight.

But sometimes a football player does not know what is best for himself and the fact that it's being reported that Rogers has approached 400 lbs, that is not good for the joints.

I'm kind of tired of watching "fat" linemen who can't run or come out of the game for a blow after a couple of plays.

If there is one thing the Giants defense should have taught all teams in the NFL, speed in the defensive front is far more productive than 400lb defensive linemen.

The Giants largest Dlineman was not even activated for the Super Bowl. The Giants largest DT to play in the game...was listed at 6-4, 317.

Rogers speed is more important than his bulk.

A reasonable weight would be the beneficial for the Browns, IMO....something in the neighborhood of 6-4, 350 would be nice to see.

ummm...

one difference though...

The Giants run a 4-3.. the Browns run a 3-4..

You ABSOLUTELY NEED BIG GUYS to OCCUPY the o-line and NOT get PUSHED around, and for your LB's to make the plays...

Tur...I knew that the Giants are running a 4-3 and Crennel said he would move into a 4 man front at times too.

But how big is big enough?

Rogers at 350 with some speed would be very good for the team and his joints.

If you believe Rogers at 400 lbs is better for the Browns, why not let him eat his way to 450 lbs?

I still contend that speed and reasonable size (350) is better at NT, than a 400 lber.

Hopefully Crennel will put some limitations on Rogers hoping it leads to a better performance and more time on the field and off the injured list.

I interpret that as Rogers saying that he, Crennel, Savage and whoever else needs to be in on the conversation will be in agreement as to his playing weight. Then whatever the weight limit that is set at, he will meet it and play good ball. He didn's say "whatever my weight turns out to be".

BROWNS GIVE ROGERS A BIG RAISE

Less than a week after sending a third-round pick and cornerback Leigh Bodden to Detroit for defensive tackle Shaun Rogers, the Cleveland Browns have made an enormous financial commitment to the veteran lineman.

According to Adam Schefter of NFL Network, Rogers will receive a six-year, $42 million deal with more than $20 million in guaranteed money.

The move makes Rogers the highest-paid interior defensive lineman in the league, besting the record of $18 million in guarantees set six days ago by Raiders defensive tackle Tommy "Ba Boom Ba Boom Ba Boom" Kelly.

The new Browns' defensive front will feature a combination of Rogers, newly acquired Corey Williams, and holdovers Robaire Smith and Shaun Smith. General Manager Phil Savage said the two other spots will be filled by Louis Leonard and 2007 draft picks Mel Purcell and/or Chase Pittman.

No mention of Ethan Kelley...

Agreed... you don't give a 29 year old a 6 year deal and expect him to be there for it.

It is interesting to me that he got more money than Williams did. IMO we gave up more for Williams so it seems like we'd pay him more as well. I guess it is probably because nose is considered to be the more important and higher paying position. I still would rather have Williams though.

All I know is that when I think about the Browns I can't stop smiling. This is going to be a great season.

Not necessarily... that would make him 35; the same age as McGinnest and still several years younger than Big Ted.

Good point. But, big contracts like this are back loaded and we probably gave him the extention to lower his cost over these next two years.

NRTU but Rogers had 3 years left on his contract and they redid it. I was against redoing Winslow's contract but after this, they pretty much have to or they will send the wrong message IMO.
