Yeah, I went on yesterday and read everything while we were in the process of aquiring Rogers, it was great stuff really.

They said they were all on suicide watch and that they would have to get Marcus Stroud instead. Since Stround is now gone, who knows what they're thinking, but most of all who cares.

Maybe they're not thinking anything, maybe they're all hanging in their closets.

Ok, that wasn't nice. Bad DP017!

Wanna read something hilarious?

Go to the Bengals board and read the post from a guy who just quit on the Bengals because we pulled Shaun Rogers out from under them. Priceless.

I actually read it...sadly enough, I've seen many posts like that about us.

He got ripped, just like those who gave up on the Browns, and decided to announce it to everyone.

I agree, Vers. This is not the time to pound our chests and talk about what a great team we are. Cinci did that these past few years and it's come back to bite them.

We need to stay humble, need to remember where we came from, and we need to take NOTHING for granted. We've seen how things can go from an ultra-high to an ultra-low in a matter of minutes (see Winslow, Kellen and Bentley, LeCharles).

Let's be happy with what we've done, but let's not get ahead of ourselves here.

Not getting ahead of myself. Just went to read their reactions, and the guy was minutes from cutting his wrists. No where did I say that we're going to stomp on the Bengals or pound my chest. Just found it amusing how a guy can completely quit on their team and refuse to follow them any longer.

Some people are just way too serious and uptight. If I take a lump of coal and shove it up the ass of all 1,012 members on this board, I'm sure we'd have about 50 diamonds in the crapper by the morning.

The board is about talking football and entertainment. I come on here for info, discussion, and entertainment. You have to take things lightly. Not directing this at you, just making a general statement. It's funny that people take this place so seriously.

I wasn't really directing my comment at you. I'm sure you didn't take it as such.

I was just trying to say that it wasn't too long ago that WE were the laughing stock of the NFL. Let's not let our small bit of success go to our heads!

I'll refrain from the Fact or Fiction question till the start of the season. The thing I will comment on, given what I've seen as far as F.A. this season so far is that everything is being laid on the line for a serious playoff push this year.

The future is defintely now.

If we can somehow land a corner, it would be pretty complete. I know we have interest in signing Sheppard. That would be huge if we pull it off. We ain't got jack to offer in this year's draft. We'd have to go to next year unfortunately.

I know Wimbley is happy as heck... Whoever plays RE I KNOW will get plenty of pressure for Wimbley to hit that edge HARD...

Scheme will DEFINITELY be key this year!!! Cuz we have the talent. All of our LB's should shine.

And I think they need to take this NFL draft countdown thingy down now.. lol..

Wow. That was cool.

What he said at the end is really true. "Who would have ever thought that a year ago?"

I know I sure didn't. This team has come a long way in a short time. I don't know if we are legitimate Super Bowl contenders or not, as I think our defense is still a little weak, but I do know that we have a competitive team that is on the upswing and will be very entertaining to watch.

The exciting part is that we have one hell of an offense ....... and our defense (on paper anyway) appears to be 1 or 2 players away instead of 4. Add to this that free agency has just begun .... and there are a number of players available at 1 of those positions. (LB)

I think that an impact Safety to replace Pool could make this defense very, very good. I'd really like to add another OLB like a Haggans as well ...... but I think that Peek might be a player in that role if he can get and stay healthy this year. If he does, and is, then we are looking at FS being the only real "need" on defense.

FWIW- The improved DL will elevate the play of the LBers without any changes even being made there. Another OLB would be a great addition, but the play of the new DL should really boost some people's totals bringing the heat......

Our offense should be anywhere from solid to dynamic.

If teams play deep and live in fear of us burning them deep, then we will pound the rock w/Lewis and just beat the living stuffing out of them. It will be a slow death and not as exciting as the quick kill, but it will be a kill nonetheless.

I think our D is improved, but there are still questions:

OLB: DnD has suggested we trade for Sheppard. Maybe our third next year. I don't know. I was hoping we would get Florence, but he said that he signed w/Jax last night. I do think we need to bring someone in.

OLB: DnD seems to think that LaBoy is ours. I don't know much about the guy. Do you? I heard he can rush the passer some, but I really don't know much else. Does anyone have a scoop on him.

FS: I think this is the position that will haunt us. Why? Because it is the one I don't think we will replace. I also don't think that our D will ever be all that good w/Pool manning the deep middle.

I think that our CBs will be OK with an improved pass rush. Pool does concern me because he does seem to get confused on the deep zones ... but again, maybe an improved pass rush will either help him, or expose him as needing replaced.

I also think that our ILBs will improve without having OL pounding on them all game long. Davis has shown some ability when not asked to shed blocks on every down ...... so hopefully improved play along the DL will help him as well.

There are always going to be questions somewhere on a team. I think that our questions are dimishing year by year ..... and that we could be exceptional if our improved DL does what we hope it can/will.

This Defensive Line will dictate everything we do...

Helps the Inside Lb's...Helps the Outside LB's...

Peek was never 100% last year...Williams will help open his side up alot...I'm curious to see exactly where we go with the ILB's...Williams/DQ and Davis or add one...

I still say Pool needs this year to determine if we even need to make a FS move...Last year was year 1 for him and he was all over the secondary the year before due to injuries...That stunted his growth...HAD TO...

Here's a wild one...It was brought up about Calvin Pace at 272lbs possibly moving INSIDE if we inked him...

What about LaBoy at 260 going INSIDE???

Well, I hope you are right.

I look at it this way:

Quote:

I completely agree. I don't think Davis is nearly as bad as most make him out to be. The inside LBers should do a better job this year.

Quote:

Not so sure I agree here. I still don't think we have the right guys to rush the passer. Williams and Rogers will help some, but they won't make us a good pass rushing team. I do think we need help at corner. Those guys are just a bit too green for my tastes.

Back to the pass rush. I still think we need an OLB who can rush the passer. That would be huge. Maybe this LaBoy guy is the one? I don't know.

Pool--------------he compromises the entire D. I know we are all excited about the recent upgrades, and I am too.........but I don't think this D is a championship D yet. Got a ways to go. It will be better, but not quite good enough.

And I am not griping because I love what we have done. I just think we had too many needs to do it all in a year. However, Phil has made a bigger impact than I thought he could. I'm very impressed.

To me, Peek is like a defensive end when coming off the edge. Whoever comes up to try and block him better hold on tight, because he HAS POWER!

It's really cool and exciting to see all this positive press. And Lombardi is certainly a credible source.

Makes you kinda want the season to start tomorrow, huh?

AFC favorite.. WOW!

Was just thinking two years ago we went 0-6 in our division.

Last year finally beat the Bengals and Ravens.

Next team to beat is those dreadful Steelers, whom we should have beat once last year too.

Sidenote: I really want LeCharles to come back and get some reps in 2008.

Usually when a lot of teams go out and get crazy in FA, you think to yourself 'ok, that's gonna backfire' ...ala, Redskins.

But Savage seems to have a real knack for getting exactly what this team needs. And he goes after the lines instead of the skill players. I think what he has done is borderline excellent.

He gave up the draft, but we all can't deny this team is better than it was a couple of days ago. With the draft, there would have been the risk that those players didn't pan out or take a while to develop. And we still have our full draft intact next year. Back to normal after a year. Great moves by Savage.

The starters look solid if not spectacular in some instances. Some of the back-ups are solid too. IMO the "holes" are in the area of depth at DL,OL and DB. But even this could change with a few signings and the draft.

it seems like alot of posters are concerned about going into cap hell after this FA spending spree. But here is the thing- the browns had around 35 million in cap space- it was listed as high as 37 mil when FA opened. Yep, a bunch of that is gone now. But so what. If they would have drafted better 5 years ago this money would have gone to resign our own guys. But with Botch running the show, we have nothing to show for it. The browns are paying proven guys that have many productive years ahead of them. Its not like they are signing a has been to a mercenary contract for the one year fix. I still see a few holes that would be nice to address- i hope they sign an OLB- LaBoy is still an option, i think it would be smart to add a vet CB. It would be a real coup to land Lito. Still need some players at DE- but Romeo said he would like to bring Orpheus back if possible and as a rotational guy i like that idea.

and to the topic- browns farvorites for the north- on paper we are. And dare i say it, with guarded- optimism we are superbowl contenders.

I was so happy when RAC said that about Roye in his presser because I was hoping they would do something like that with him. I hope it happens.

I really think Roye could be a force in spot duty. The guy just can't play a lot of minutes.

I'm hoping it works out that way.

You don't think we need a corner?

A corner is a higher priority IMO than replacing Brodney Pool.

We have 2 second year guys and Holly. That's really it. Very, very thin.
