Agreed.

I think Pool will be fine this year

But we definitely need corner help.

Just a couple of wild cards for thought.

Baxter may return and play safety, nickle, or corner.

We still do not know much about LeCharles.

Expect some push from Williams and McMillian in the LB's.

Injuries are an important part of the NFL. Teams fortunes are often tied to how healthy the team is.

That said, I am very happy about the signing of Williams, Rodgers and Stallworth. I do not think the Browns are through as of yet, and would expect 1 or 2 more signings (Hagans and Laboy?)

It is way to early to cast the cloud of SB expectations on the team. I have been living with this in SD for a while, and the Browns are better, but it will take time to meld the team.

The Pats are the only "premier team" that has lost anything substantial. But they also have 2 first round draft choices and a good coach.

Wow. That was cool.

What he said at the end is really true. "Who would have ever thought that a year ago?"

I know I sure didn't. This team has come a long way in a short time. I don't know if we are legitimate Super Bowl contenders or not, as I think our defense is still a little weak, but I do know that we have a competitive team that is on the upswing and will be very entertaining to watch.

The exciting part is that we have one hell of an offense ....... and our defense (on paper anyway) appears to be 1 or 2 players away instead of 4. Add to this that free agency has just begun .... and there are a number of players available at 1 of those positions. (LB)

I think that an impact Safety to replace Pool could make this defense very, very good. I'd really like to add another OLB like a Haggans as well ...... but I think that Peek might be a player in that role if he can get and stay healthy this year. If he does, and is, then we are looking at FS being the only real "need" on defense.

You don't think we need a corner?

A corner is a higher priority IMO than replacing Brodney Pool.

We have 2 second year guys and Holly. That's really it. Very, very thin.

In all honesty ..... I think that Pool cold fill that extra CB role better than he does the FS role. That would give us Wright, McDonald, Holly and Pool as our top 4 CBs ..... and bring in a solid, experienced guy who can play well in the deeper zones and I think that the defense would benefit greatly.

I'd say fact. Losing Faneca was huge!! They shoulda done what was needed to keep the man. Plus, while the Squuelers are perennially good, I think this is the year we take 'em down. Cincy is a train wreck and the Rats still haven't solved their QB issues, not to mention Ray-Ray is getting old and isn't the LB he used to be.

It's nice to see.... but personally I could care less what they say...

and I hope our players aren't listening to this either... because being the 'favorites' means nothing if you don't back it up.

I will say this as far as Pittsburgh goes ...... they never overpay for guys on the wrong side of 30. The Jets gave a 31 year old Guard a 5 year deal that has $21 million in guarantees. That's one helluva lotta jack for a guy who might only have 1 or 2 good years left.

That's exactly the kind of deal I want the Browns to stay away from. If I were a Steelers fan, I'd be glad that the team didn't ruin their finances on a guy who likely won't see the end of his 5 year deal.

I agree... we haven't won diddly-squat yet and until we do, I really don't care what they say. It's just fun watching the bipolar mood swings.

We had to look for some instant fix to match the abilities of the 2 units. In the 2-3 years it might take to get the D up to speed in the draft, the O would be at the point of beginning to lose steam.

The beauty of it Peen, and forgive me if somebody has pointed this out, is that after this non-draft which for now isn't worth watching... we can start drafting guys to ultimately replace these guys but they won't be stuck in a vacuum the way Wimbley does and they won't be expected to be great from day 1....

I'm going to enjoy my summer, but damn, part of me wishes it was football season.

You are over stating Faneca's importance and relavance at this stage in his career. His skills were obviously diminishing and although he was our best lineman, that is not saying a whole hell of a lot. He was part of the line that gave up like 49 sacks (Yes I envy the Browns line. I am very jealous. Except for Steve McKinnie. He still kinda sucks.) There were several occassions where he simply failed to block anyone effectively in the passing game. What will be missed most is his athleticism in the running game. Chris Kemosomething is an absolute mauler when he gets to someone. That is his problem. He has a hard time getting to the second level.

exactly DC... as long as we just say screw this draft for this year only... in all honesty I prefer building through the draft than going after a lot of FAs, but we had to get better quick....

so I don't want to trade any of next year's picks

Haha. Would be like Pittsburgh of the 70's. Not to put a damper on everyone's mood here, but the Super Bowl talk reminds me of the Dolphins in 2006 after they went 9-7 in 2005 and signed a few people and traded for Daunte Culpepper and Joey Harrington The Dolphins of course went 6-10 under Culpepper, Harrington, and Cleo Lemon.

Well... our offense essentially didn't change and it carried our team last year...

on paper our defense is much better... overall it can't get any worse

You may be understating his worth.
We have enviously watched Big Red from afar for years, knowing the value of great guard pllay.Kemo is a mauler, but he's not a LG.Maybe Simmons can move over, and Kemo can play the the RG.
Faneca was one of the best at running the triangle screen, the guy could flat-out move, and block on the move. The Steelers were the best at running screens,I don't see that now.
It seems as tho "highest paid" or "overpaid" gets attached to damned near every signing these days, but this seems like an act of desperation on the part of the Jets.Of coarse he'll look good between those two young guys.
faneca is good, and you will miss him,but he's not worth what it would have taken to keep him.

Indecision may,or maynot,be my problem

Don Banks likes what Phil is doing.....

All things considered, I like the Browns' rebuilt defensive tackle tandem of ex-Packer Corey Williams and Rogers as much as any personnel improvement any team has made thus far this offseason. As I wrote on Friday, Rogers has been inconsistent and comes with the label of playing hard only when it suits him. But he and Williams give the Browns a very solid foundation in the middle of their D-line.

The Browns, by the way, now have first, second or third round picks in this year's draft, thanks to the deals that landed them Brady Quinn last year, and Williams and Rogers this year.

OLB: DnD seems to think that LaBoy is ours. I don't know much about the guy. Do you? I heard he can rush the passer some, but I really don't know much else. Does anyone have a scoop on him.

Vers, I really hope we sign this guy.....the problem is: he probably demands a lot of $$ but he wasn´t and won´t be an every down player....even as a 3-4 OLB....he´s weak against the run....but...he´s a hell of a pass rusher and he made a lot of impact plays for a situational player: 6 sacks, 4 FF, INT

I think he has some upside left as a 3-4 pass-rushing OLB

Faneca wanted out of Putzburgh in a bad way. I don't think he would have stayed there without being paid even more coin than the J-E-T-S, Jets, Jets, Jets are shelling out for him.

LOL!! I've been saying that for years. When one goes, they all go! It's just too perfect. At the least the Cavs and Tribe have been there. Now, it's time the Browns caught up.

Let's not forget how upset a lot of us were when the pundits and talking heads were predicting how we'd be one of the worst teams in the NFL and how the Rats would be in the Super Bowl.

I'm not saying they're wrong, I'm just saying that we shouldn't be the type of fans who hate the media when they bash us, but then turn the other way and believe everything they say when they praise us.

Bravo!

I *LOL* when people complain about the stuff on espn in regard to the Browns.....now it's positive stuff and they are drooling over it.

Of course these are the same guys that predicted us to be fighting for the AFC North cellar before last season. I think that its not as much drooling over these guys as it is just "Feelin' Good" about our team finally gettin' some respect. JMHO Go Brownies!!!
