http://rotoworld.com/content/Home_NFL.aspxNFL Network's Adam Schefter reports the Browns have reached agreement with Donte' Stallworth. Terms aren't known, but it's a great fit for both sides. Cleveland gets depth and speed at wideout, while Stallworth fits best supporting player. He'll make the Browns tough to defend lining up with Braylon Edwards, Kellen Winslow, and Joe Jurevicius. His fantasy numbers should uptick because he'll see the field more than in New England, but don't expect his first 1,000-yard season.

Nice! Now Phil just needs to find us a couple of backup Olinemen or resign McKinney and Friedman and the offense should be set.

Woo-hoo! I like this pick-up a lot. I know he's been viewed as and over-rated underachiever but personally, I don't think he's really come into his own yet and I'm hoping that, under the tutelage of Chud and Wes, and working within our system with the QBs we have, he'll prove to be very, very good. Phil =

Not really a Stallworth fan but not a hater either.. But 123, you may be right,, how do you defend in a 4 wide set... with Kellen acting as a WR... Braylon, JJ and Stallworth and KW2.... Holy cow, some teams are going to lose a lot of sleep the week before we play them.... LOL Just think, they have to deal with a tough OLine and then.,.,.,, Jamal Lewis. Man, that has to be a nightmare for DC's... This could really really be fun to watch..., Yikes

Match ups is what the NFL is about today. Stallworth goes deep and a safety is going to have to double him. This opens everything for Winslow and Braylon. Stallworth adds a lot to this offense, Big Joe's numbers might drop but the offense as a whole is a lot better now.
Unfortunately, this could cut into Cribbs' recieving chances as well. Stallworth will be getting a lot of screens and reverses that Cribbs might get.
But we always seem to find different ways to use Cribbs so I'm not that worried.
Good-bye Tim Carter, we needed an UPGRADE. This is good news depending on the money.

I think everyone will be motivated to be part of a resurgence of this great organization!
I believe Crennel brings out the best in the underachievers also. I'm not overly concerned about Donte and Rogers and their past.

How can we be stopped offensively now ? Honestly ...
Braylon, JJ, Kellen, Stallworth, Lewis, our offensive line + LeCharles now ...
Game.

I agree whole heartedly with that. My biggest concern was Rogers, but if anyone can get these guys to buy into what we're doing, it's RAC & Co.

I like it except it looks like they are going all or nothing this year, I don't want to be a wet blanket but this reminds me of the year before cap hell under butch davis
We're trying to throw the ball downfield and he checked the ball down to Trent Richardson and the Indians on the choice.

I know, I hope next year we're still okay cap wise.
There are three guys essential to this team in my book.
Joe Thomas, Braylon, KW2.
We need to make sure we have money to resign KW2 and Braylon. They produce big and will want to be paid according to it.

Nahh man . Not at all . We have pieces in place for a long time to come . Just a couple of guys to re-negotiate contracts with (BE, K2) . It's not even close to that offseason .

I don't know about that, homer_brown. I'm not salary cap guru by any stretch, but I know we had a LOT of space under the cap. Also, with as few draft picks as we have, we don't have to worry about the big hit that will come from that.

One would have to believe (and hope) that they've kept a good eye on the cap implications in the future.
I'm glad that we are being bold though!
How does the Browns V Vikings sound for this or most likely the following Super Bowl! (yeah, I know...maintain my excitement!)

which is exactly why JJ is the best person for us, he won't mind one bit, he's just here because he loves the team and wants to help it win. He is team first! This could actually improve his numbers as he will be open all day in the slot and underneath. Nice sign. Now for a corner.....
Go Browns!

i dunno how I feel about him... He is on the league substance abuse program. If he gets cauught again he's suspended for 4 games. Maybe he grew up and cleaned up his act.

I am open to the Stallworth signing. My only question is how does the signing of Anderson, Lewis, Williams, Rogers, and Stallworth affect the long term plans of the Browns?
If we keep this up aren't we going to be in cap purgatory? Especially with Edwards and KW2 new contracts looming.
Don't get me wrong, I love the big splash we have made in the last couple days. But what are the repercussions? Is the FO wagering the future for winning now?
Note: Davy is just trying to think objectively

Did we all just die and go to Heavan? Wow, I am so excited to get this season underway.
This is so exciting. (just a thought....can we say Cribbs as a b/u QB also?)

You totally missed my point.
I love getting new players who can actually play. I love the excitement. I love that Savage is upgrading the talent every year. But at the same time I don't want to have blinders on and not see the big picture. Look what happened with the Bengals. Because of being over the cap, they could not pay Rogers the 1m bonus owed to him and lost a good player in the process.
If we keep this up we are going to be in cap hell in a few years, and may not be able to sign some of our young marquee players and will be forced to start the rebuilding process again.

It's good to be concerned, but I don't see there being a problem at all cap-wise just yet. We had LOADS of room before and we really haven't used all that much thus far; and besides that, it is looking like we won't have to save too much room for rookie contracts.
Heck, for all we know the majority of the contracts that Phil has done thus far are front-loaded and we're setting ourselves up to always get the bulk of the deal out of the way early... which constantly leaves us in a position of strength.
Browns is the Browns
... there goes Joe Thomas, the best there ever was in this game.

No I understood and apologize if I came off a bit harsh to your post. I feel they are doing this with an eye to the future also but I suppose until we see their contracts we won't know for sure!

Cap hell be damned. I'm not a big proponent of signing skill players, but a decent speed receiver was essential for DA. Now we can stretch the field both horiz and vert. puuting tremendous pressure on opposing safeties.Teams that try to take BE away will now have to contend with Stallworth. This is great. It's like watching the Godfather for the first time.I'm glued to the screen, what's going to happen next.

No problem. I just didn't want anyone to think I was badmouthing the Browns or complaining. Because I am not. I love that we actually have talent here.
I just would hate to see all the progress be short lived if in two-three years we have to start dumping players and contracts because we are in cap hell.
But what Purple says makes sense if they are front loaded and with us not having to pay first day draft contracts.
If you think about it, this team was picking in the top 11 of the draft for several years in a row...those are some big contracts every year.

Getting back to the thread itself ......
I know 2 players who have to be thrilled with this signing ...... and they would be Jamal Lewis and Kellen Winslow. With Braylon and Stallworth on the outside, the middle of the field will suddenly become a lot more wide open.

I was thinking the same thing... opens up the box for our running game... creates huge match-up problems with KW2.
