Wow, today feels like Christmas. Way to go Phil!!!

For me, and a lot of us on this board, NOW is the future. I've been waiting a lifetime for a Cleveland team to win it all, and specifically the Browns.

gobrowns!

I am open to the Stallworth signing. My only question is how does the signing of Anderson, Lewis, Williams, Rogers, and Stallworth affect the long term plans of the Browns?

If we keep this up aren't we going to be in cap purgatory? Especially with Edwards and KW2 new contracts looming.

Don't get me wrong, I love the big splash we have made in the last couple days. But what are the repercussions? Is the FO wagering the future for winning now?

Note: Davy is just trying to think objectively

One thing about this year is... We don't have to worry about signing and paying first, second, and third round picks... so that frees up some cap space for us to use on these free agents.

I don't really like this move...

I love the moves on the line, even though we had to say goodbye to Bodden, but after giving DA almost $9 mil/year and now signing Stallworth to what's probably $6-$7mil per... that's eating up an awful lot of cash that could be going to keeping BE, KW2 and Sean Jones... all of whom i see as essential to the team.

I don't really see Anderson or Stallworth as essential.

Nice piece to the puzzle. Stallworth is legitimately one of the fastest receivers in the league. So he gives us that complimentary vertical threat to the likes of JJ and Braylon.
Has never lived up to expectations, but if he's your no.2 receiver he's put up some nice numbers the last couple years.

Not really a Stallworth fan but not a hater either.. But 123, you may be right,, how do you defend in a 4 wide set... with Kellen acting as a WR... Braylon, JJ and Stallworth and KW2.... Holy cow, some teams are going to lose a lot of sleep the week before we play them.... LOL Just think, they have to deal with a tough OLine and then.,.,.,, Jamal Lewis.

Man, that has to be a nightmare for DC's... This could really really be fun to watch..., Yikes

Derek has to get the ball there first.

Oh crap, did I type that out loud?

Funny you said that.

I got up at 4:00 this morning just to see if anything happened while I was asleep. I also left ESPN on all night and kept listening throughout the night. My girlfriend thought I was stupid for all my excitement. I told her that Free Agency is better than Christmas to me. Draft day runs a close second, but I may have to wait till next year for that one!

Anyway you look at it Crennell said it best when he said Quinn is our first round pick, Williams our second round pick, and Rogers is our third round pick. He said he would love a draft like that every year.

I know that's a very bold statement...but think about it.

Game changing receiver (Edwards), game changing tight end (Winslow), reliable, tall slot guy (Jurevicius), and now a speedy field-stretcher (Stallworth).

And that's just the passing game. Add in a legit back in Lewis who can carry the load, an OL that can run block and pass protect, and one of these two QB's has to be very good in this situation.

It's crazy to think about. The offense truly is complete.

Holy mackerel! You can't turn your back for a minute.
I personally didn't think he was all that great...but that's because he had that bum Brady for a QB

We can only hope that he does a good job for us.
I wonder if he'll end up with #81

I was just over on the Steelers message board and there are some folks over there having kittens as we type. I can't wait to see their reaction to our signing Stallworth.

They are actually worried about us now. hehe....here comes the smell of a revival of an old and beloved rivalry.

ESPN is reporting a 7-year, $35 million deal, 10 million guaranteed:

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3272450

Source: Browns, ex-Pats receiver Stallworth agree to contract

By Michael Smith
ESPN.com

On the first day of NFL free agency, the Cleveland Browns first locked up quarterback Derek Anderson with a three-year deal.

On Saturday, they gave him a new target to pass to.

According to a source, Donte' Stallworth, who played last season with the New England Patriots, agreed to terms on a seven-year, $35 million contract with the Browns, $ 10 million of which are guaranteed.

Stallworth, caught 46 passes for 697 yards and three touchdowns as part of a receving corps that included Wes Welker and Pro Bowler Randy Moss.

Stallworth's best overall season was in 2005 when he caught 70 passes for 945 yards and seven touchdowns as a member of the New Orleans Saints.

Far from perfect IMO...
This ain't John Stallworth,,... it's Donte....
for all he's done, and for a helluva lot less money, we might as well kept Northcutt.
Seems like a waste of money to me.
( I'd be more inclined to get in his court if he was just a few inches taller.)
He's allmost a clone to Northcutt.

Lets hope DA can actually throw it accurate enough to Stallworth. He isnt going to go up and get the ball like Winslow and Edwards.

New England's OL doesn't have Steinbach and Thomas on the left side.

With Faneca sandwiched between D'Brick and Mangold for the Jets, that OL will be very good. That he left Putzburgh just makes it that much better.

I ain't saying Northcutt was that great...
What I am saying is that Stallworth isn't any better.
Compare Stallworth stats last season and then Northcutt's last season.
The proof is in the pudding

No it isn't. Northcutt was a reciever on a team with no other good wide outs. Stalloworth was competing for the ball with multipule studs in Moss, Welker, Watson, Maroney, and Gaffney. I could probably even throw in Kevin Faulk.

I did the same...

I also called my dad to ask if he saw the updates... he was pumped about Rogers but had no clue about Stallworth... he's been playing with grandkids all day and hasn't read the news... it's coming in way too fast... but man am I excited

Stallworth was their number 2 receiver for @#$#@ sakes. That would be like saying Edwards would have had better numbers if it wasn't for Cribbs.\

Didn't Welker catch over 100 passes? Then there was that Moss guy that caught 23 TD's...

Whoa!, I was eating at Damons when I glanced at the TV and I said HOLY CRAP, and then I saw a very strange headline that read, "Anderson likely to be traded" Did anyone else see this or know what's up with that?

On Stallworth, I couldn't be happier, the gut will open up huge options for BE, K2, JJ, and Lewis. Whew, the last 48 hours have been simply AMAZING!!!!

GO PHIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Being a number two wide reciever is totally irrelevent. That is just where you line up. Welker and Watson were always on the field and both of them are GREAT players. What you are saying is that since Joe J is our number two he should be putting up better numbers than Winslow even though Winslow is better. Your spot as a WR does not matter if you are on the field at the same time.

going into the season, Stallworth was their number 2. Welker was no where.

Stallworth is not a possession guy who gets a lot of catches like a Wes Welker, but a big play guy who stretches the field. Savage knew that when signing him. Stallworth will provide a lot for this offense, and not everything he provides will show in his individual numbers, but will show in the overall offense's numbers.

If you don't like Stallworth,or signing him, that's fine and dandy, just say so and be done with it.Your arguments about his not putting up great numbers being a no.2 has no merit,as multiple people have tried to point out to you.
BTW,Welker was somewhere before the season started,a gleam in Belichek's eye,he knew what he had.

With the makeup of the Pats O, he was more of a decoy than anything else.

Here he actually has a chance, or he makes the guys around him that much better as a decoy.

Northcutt was no decoy, and neither was Tim Carter. Decoys need to be legit threats...Stallworth IS a legit threat. Not great, but a legit threat.
