Amen...I think he got a raw deal, and to me he beat out Reuben Droughns in the preseason a couple years ago

If he was killing, he'd probably be in Cincinnati or Baltimore.

that just goes to show u.. that when u have a guy like savage who is willing to roll the dice.. you will go far...I expect big things this year.... Having no draft picks from 1-3 does not bother me at all.. We now have depth and experience on our DL.. now if we can get lito from the Eagles that would be nice.. Or sign Gay who is a FA.. I believe that last years LB's will do just Fine....w/ what we have now...

I'm not so sure it's about 'rolling the dice' as you say and more just understanding what the weaknesses are and then having a plan to address them.
The things I really like about Savage:
--Seems to have a great pulse on the team strength and weaknesses. --When he identifies those weaknesses, he his action-oriented and aggressive in trying to correct them. --He seems to have a plan. --He is willing to take CALCULATED risks and live with the results. And I think this is where your 'rolling the dice' comment comes from. I definitely agree with that.
But he is a good risk taker. I can't think of one risky move where the downside would be a seriously big blow to the team. I just can't think of one.
Now, this is what I don't like about Savage:
--His shameless attempts to constantly remind the media and everyone else what him and RAC inherited and how much they've improved the team. He gets very defensive in a lot of his pressers - often without being provoked.
Just let the results on the field speak for themselves. People already like you and think you are doing a good job. Chill the hell out.
It's like some of the risky moves he makes, he almost questions himself. Then in order to justify them, he defends them before they are even questioned.
Other than that, I really like him. He is good for this team. But that one little pet peeve of mind really annoys me.

I was thinking about this yesterday, and was trying to figure out what the two biggest turning points of this franchise have been...
I would say Phil Savage, and Joe Thomas.

If he was that good, then why didn't another team sign him to be their killer back?

It really makes you think about just how good we can be this year.
We have a tougher schedule, no doubt. But we are a better team now. Just what we did to the DL alone makes us a better team. There's no more excuses for Andra Davis and D'Qwell Jackson after this move, and none for Kamerion Wimbley and Antwan Peek either.
And if we get pressure, our secondary will suddenly look 10 times better.
If Anderson takes that leap we pray he'll take, we'll run away with the division this year. No doubt in my mind, assuming we stay relatively healthy.
Fear the Browns. We very well may have the mental edge going into this year, like when the Ravens got Steve McNair and Ray Lewis' big body he demanded. We made similar moves to be "that team."
I think the mental edge is huge for this team, especially since we're accustomed to being at a mental disadvantage.

We're going to take our lumps, but I'm with you that we are the team to beat for the division. We have more talent, know we can win, and Romeo is around to tell the team we have a long way to go. That light just keeps getting bigger and brighter.
Go Irish!

"Browns could challenge for the Super Bowl" Mortensen
I actually don't think that's too far fetched if the following things happen:
-Rogers is the guy all the fans think they are getting. -DA improves just marginally. -Peek/LaBoy stay healthy.
Of course, it goes without saying that injuries can throw the whole thing out the window.
But for me, the real key is Rogers. I think it's 50/50 that he will be a success here, but we will only go far if he has a big impact.
A little concerned about secondary, but I'm hoping Savage has one more thing up his sleeve.

Welcome to the ambiguity of internet communications, hehe.
I don't know that it's far-fetched (though we'll be far from a favorite) but rather it's hard to imagine at this very time last year, when most of us thought we'd only win 5-6 games, that now we're having Mortensen (who's an idiot, BTW) talking about how we're a contender to win it all.

Green was a stiff. He's out of the league because he doesn't have NFL ability. Teams will take chance after chance on guys who can play, regardless of criminal record or otherwise, but if you can't play, you don't get a sniff.
Green was just another link in the busted chain of failed draft picks by all the previous regimes. From Couch to Warren, Green to Faine, they all blew it. Savage has fixed that, even if he's had to throw the dice to do it.

Now THERE'S the real back.
Suggs kicked Green's ass, period. Suggs had tremendous instinct behind an awful OL.
it's a shame he's built like a chandalier.

Why I asked him that question...Cant see how anyone can say he was nfl material?

I miss yelling, "Sugsy!" when he'd break one for more than 1.5 yards. I do love the fact that we have a potent offense for a change and am excited to see what our defense can do this year. With the schedule we have, I'm interested in seeing how we well compete and finding out if we can win the division and make the playoffs. IMHO, this is the year we find out if we truly are becoming contenders. Losing to Cincy, the Raiders, Pitt (the second time) and the Cards, then losing the playoff spot to the Titans because they beat the Colts still raises bile. I love the direction the team seems to be headed, and I'm a huge fan of Phil and RAC... but I loved it when we made the playoffs under Butch too. So wait... what was the reminder for?

I think Suggs had a lot of ability and I would like to see him run more to outside with this group; his "line" stunk badly. Not much ITO durability, but think he was craftier than PipeDream Green, a testament to bad scouting and worse judgment IMO. That regime is thankfully gone. With a D that blitzes, we should shake some stuff out this season. And Chud figures out matching the skills to these folks, we will wake up in a better place when the snow flies (I hope).
