Very candid:

The highlights:

1. LCB was good to go but he couldn't pull one way, either to the right or the left...SS couldn't remember, so they kept him out.

2. He thinks Gary Baxter will be signed for a one year prove it contract so that he can make history.

3. He has some problems with guys like Shaun Rodgers who need to be motivated to play. He says that some guys who are 1st rounders get lazy.

4. If the Browns aren't 4-2 or undefeated through 6 games then Brady Quinn is comin in.

5. He thinks Hank is very underrated as a player.

6. Todd Grantham just yelled a lot and players toned him out after a while. He made some comment about toning out his wife.....my wife was talking to me at the time so I didn't hear it completely...lol

That was fun.

Thought it was funny him ripping on Joe & #17, saying Joe wasn't going to beat out any CBs but on 3rd down you want him to get the ball because you never know what Braylon's gonna do.

Interesting his take that McDonald will be better than Wright. More reason Bodden was traded?

Funny when he said now that they went 10-6 everybody's getting a new contract, he wants a new contract.

Funny (not) what he said that when he was with Cincy they didn't used to practice hard, they'd just laugh.

Interesting his thoughts on LCB getting a raw deal last year.

Good stuff. Thanks!

I like Shaun Smith... He has the type of arrogance that is kind of funny... sometimes you can't tell if he is really believing the things that he says, or if he is just being humorous. lol.

Lazy players play lazy if there allowed too, if they have leaders who make them accutable for thier play, they will play hard....This is one reason we keep Willie Around, JJ and others...LEADERS are more important to a team than a millionaire 1st round pick.

I do hope Shaun dosent overstep his boundries talking the way he does, ya it's funny and he's outspoken, but many things are best discussed inside the locker room, I hope RAC talks to him, or Willie, Hopefully it dosent get to the point he calls a team member out, and hopefully he sits down with Rodgers and has a heart to heart about what it means to be a Cleveland Brown and whats expected.

Is that his real e-mail address? Wondered why his name is spelled with a 'W'. Anyway, yeah, not too crazy about him talking like this, especially about Rogers. I think the guy deserves a chance to have a clean slate here. Not cool that he's already being branded 'lazy' before he even steps on the field for us. Let what happened in Detroit stay in Detroit, by God. I don't know. Maybe I'm taking it too seriously. It's cool to know some of this stuff and get an inside scoop, but as grandpa used to always say, 'Loose lips sink ships'. Zip it Shaun!

Truthfully, I didn't really like any of what he said.

Again, maybe I'm in the "I'm taking this too seriously boat" but who the hell is Shuan Smith anyway? I don't want to rag on the guy but he's talking like he's Michael Strahan, with 100+ career sacks and all the credibility (and credentials) to be criticizing other players (even in a joking manner).

All I can say is, imagine if Braylon had said this stuff.....everyone would be referring to him as "Leon" again.

Smith seems like a like-able guy and I don't want to pile on too much but he needs to keep his yap shut (just like Braylon did last year). Prove something on the feild and then MAYBE I'll want to hear what you have to say.

He doesn't work for ESPN, it's not his job to give "inside info" or player evaluations, especially on guys he doesn't even know (Rogers). I hope they do some position drills and he gets a nice to meet you manhandling from the "lazy" new player.

It's not about me or you taking him seriously....its about his teammates it's about him causing a distubance in the locker room, sure it's funyy now in February & March but if we keep hearing the same old stuff about the same player, it's gonna start to get under the skin of that player and cause problems,

It's like a little kid telling a joke that everybody laughts at, so he keeps telling it over and over again until it's no longer funny and instead it's a pian in the rear and were tired of hearing it.

I like Shawn Smith and believe the things that he is saying.

Very interesting about LeCharles. I wonder what position he'd play if he comes back to old form. Prob. wherever we need him, but may be RG or Center? That would be a huge boost for our team if he gets back to old form. More depth on the O-Line and hopefully better run blocking.

Hopefully the way that he was talking about Shuan Rogers motivates Rogers to work his butt off to beat Smith for the position. I liked how Smith explained how seriously he took the game. And he made his point clear that he wasn't planning on losing his starting spot. So we'll see who takes it. I'm hoping Rogers works his butt off and plays very well at NT for us this year. Smith will get his time no matter what by subbing in through the whole D-Line because he can play end and NT.

I didn't think Smith was that great last year anyway. But I feel that with defense, players look better with better players around them. I liked how he was giving us "inside info" though.

The guy probably didn't think that anyone would care what he had to say. Maybe he didn't count on the dissemination of this information.

That being said, I've always been of the mindset that "politics stops at the water's edge." If you have a problem with a guy, you deal with him in private. But when you're out in public, you never say anything negative about anyone on your team or organization. You just say the safe stuff. "We're excited to have him on the team and hope he can help turn things around."

I disagree.

I love LCB, I know his wife personally. She was a good friend of mine in grade, and high school. If you don’t believe me PM me, I will not put out any names or schools publicly. Her boys with LCB are HUGE already. I have personal ties to the man, and I still see this as none other than a business move by Phil.

Why pay a guy more than you have to when he won’t be more productive than what you have? Let him heal another year, get as healthy as possible so he doesn’t hurt himself again and see what he can do.

Phil has LCB’s best interest at heart, but he is also the Browns GM who had his and Romeo’s career on the line.

I cried when LCB got hurt, I remember sitting in my Ann Arbor apartment tearing up, thinking “WHY? Anyone else I wouldn’t have gave a shh, WHY? He loves this city”.

Will all that said, I think Sean is talking out his butt. LCB was considering another surgery RIGHT BEFORE the season, so there is no way he was that healthy that Phil “Did him dirty”.

Unless he has some information stating that LCB was dominating in practice and was healthy, I see no reason he should be saying any of this.

SS is dead wrong.

It was both in LCB best interest, and the best interest for the Browns.
I can understand that LCB might have wanted the money, and SS saying they should have let him try.

But to say they “did him dirty” probably isn’t true.

I love this PC world we live in. Not counting the "inside info", everything he said is the truth. I get the feeling he has already voiced his opinion in the locker room, and since it's true, doesn't give a rat's butt what anybody thinks. When the lowest man on the totem pole is allowed to point out problems, things work better.

I don't think anyone should be allowed to point out our problems, especially in public. If you have concerns, go through the proper channels. I'm starting to think SS should go back to Cincy. He fits in better down there.

That's your opinion, and that's fine. My opinion is that saying things like that does nothing to help the organization. I may disagree with something that one of my co-workers does, but I'm not going to tell people outside of my workplace that I'm upset about it. I just think that's bad business.

My take on things is that I generally try to do things that accomplish something. I don't know what he accomplishes here.

Now, I'm not saying he's a horrible person and he's really hurting this team. I just don't agree with his approach.

I think we'll find out the truth about LCB in the next couple of months. If he was close to playing last fall, he should have no problems at all in the minicamps. If he is still struggling then there is definately some reasons to be concerned about his health. Its a heck of an injury to come back from, add to that the infections that followed.

I don't know what Smith's angle was on this, maybe it was something that should be thought and not said in public?

Without guys like Shaun, how would we hear about tidbits like this?

Bengals | Former teammate says C. Johnson punched Lewis
Fri, 7 Mar 2008 12:09:26 -0800

Mark Curnutte, of The Cincinnati Enquirer, reports Cleveland Browns DL Shaun Smith, a former Cincinnati Bengal, said that Bengals WR Chad Johnson had an altercation with head coach Marvin Lewis and wide receivers coach Hue Jackson, who is now with the Baltimore Ravens. There was reportedly a video on YouTube of Smith making comments about the fight but the video was removed. "He swung on Marvin. (Johnson) shattered the training room glass. He swung on Marvin (and) hit Marvin in the eye. Then he tried to swing on wide receivers coach Hue Jackson, who's now in Baltimore."

KFFL

I may not agree with him being so willing to air dirty laundry, I don't really like it at all, but the fact is, the team hires men not robots and everyone is different. I'm sure he'll get a talking to by RAC, but I also know that RAC doesn't censor his players per se, but merely advises them on being better team members. Will that get him to curb his public outbursts? I doubt it. He is who he is: a guy who loves to talk.

While it's stupid for him to divulge that kind of info, I hope that it at least creates a few "oh no's" down in Cincinnati.

Chad punching Marvin, while completely inexcusable, leads me to wonder if Marvy didn't giggle once too often.

I found this informative reenactment:
