I agree it is, and I said also, I was just throwing something out there as a different reason for him doing it. I dont have a link on the stray dogs, it was just something verbal I have heard several times. I have also heard it is quite common for Marines over there to shoot strays.
My question then becomes, is it the fact that he killed a dog, or the way he killed it, and how much of peoples opinion is changed by the emotion of it being a cute little puppy?

If I found a litter of wolf pups, I'd kill them. Then, I'd wait till mommy wolf came back, and I'd kill her. Then, I'd call the county, tell them what I did, they'd come out, check to make sure I had a hunting license, and that would be that.
But, why has this tuned into a discussion about wolves?

I can agree with that because it was a puppy. However for me if it was any other animal I would have felt the same way. I just don't understand anybody abusing any person or animal for kicks and I never will

Because dogs that form wild packs in Iraq (or anywhere I guess)tend to revert back to the tendencies of the wolves they are descended from. Dogs in Iraq are not the domesticated family pets that they are in the USA. They are more like the wild dingo dogs of Australia. I was using the wolves as a related analogy for a dangerous nuisance animal.

So we should start killing all the baby alligators in Florida because they have been known to hurt people when they are older 
At one time they were considered a nuisance and were almost hunted to extinction(similar to North American Wolves). They then became a protected species , as their opulation is growing more and more are being killed in order to keep their population under control. So yes if alligators were running around the streets in packs attacking people , yes they would be getting killed.Even the cute little ones
