As I mentioned awhile back, I started on NutriSystem and did/have done extremely well.
It's time to wean off this stuff though and learn how to cook for myself.
So, for our cooks out there - can you recommend any LOW CALORIE cookbooks? It must be low cal and low cal only.
Thanks!!!!

Most cookbooks I know of might be low in calories, but they taste awful.

I've found I got better weight loss results while controlling my portion sizes instead of the ingredients. That way, it doesn't matter if I'm eating a salad, burger or ice cream. Keep protein around the size of a deck of cards, reduce the bad fats as much as you can, easy on the carbs and eat all the veggies you want. Let's be frank, who wants to count calories anyway? Weighing chicken breasts, measuring oils, counting almonds.....stupid. Most people eat more of their diet food when you think about it, since they thinks it's so much lower in calories. That's why you never see a half empty box of Snackwells.

I've done just fine on NS with low cal foods and proper portions.
The key to the game is calories. If you eat more calories than you burn, you will gain weight. So, reduce calories and you've put yourself ahead of the game. I love the - I can eat cheeseburgers, ice cream, etc and lose weight! Ok... also the reason why you don't find half eaten cheeseburgers around or ice cream cones.
Low cal does not mean tastes bad. NS has great food, as does Healthy Choice, Lean Cuisine and Weight Watchers. I would just prefer to cook for myself when I have the time.

Oh, no doubt. It all comes down to calories in the long run. And exercise too.
However, to get a diet to work, portion control is the most successful first step in my opinion. Why? Like I said, you can over eat low-cal food too.
If you can train your body to accept smaller portions, you can then ween yourself off the bad foods as you go. You can't expect someone to just quit eating the foods they enjoy overnight AND telling them to eat less too (AND start exercising too). It's a recipe, pun intended, for disaster.
That's why my "plan" also calls for one cheat meal/day per week. Go eat the biggest meal and worst dessert you want on a Saturday night. It will give you something to look forward to all week.

It's not necessarily low-cal but you mentioned Weight Watchers. I have this cookbook and there are some very good recipes in here...my hubby never realizes that he's eating healthy when I make stuff from here: http://www.amazon.com/Weight-Watchers-New-Complete-Cookbook/dp/002863716X

Recipes : use the internet. Free and abundant. Taste is subjective, a great recipe to someone might taste awful to you. Learn your preferences and use them to your advantage. Develop your own recipes over time. I can suggest loosely a concept called mindful eating Mindful eating I have just started trying it and it does work to give you a good signal on when you are actually full. The idea is if you focus solely on the act of eating while eating you will have more satisfying taste, and a very noticable "stop eating" feeling when it is time to stop. Your portions will control themselves. I also suggest studying the effects of diets with minimal "junk" as opposed to traditional calorie restriction. Evidence (albeit circumstantial) is beginning to show that in spite of calories, a diet of little to no junk, will get you to your ideal weight even if you're taking in more calories than you exert. Consequentially, it is nearly impossible to eat too many calories if you are eating a healthy diet with lots of fruits and vegetables.

Sounds like Body for Life. I eat 6x's per day (2-3 meal replacement shakes/bars) and my portions are usually the size of my balled up fist.

For those of you interested, its not a recipe book, but check out "Eat this, not This. It is a book with the majority of restaurant chains and their food items listed by calories, fat ect. It compares 2 similar items and gives you the info you are looking for.

My wife loves Paula Deen, but that Georgia belle (Paula Deen) doesn't like low-cal food.

It is all about eating less meat.....and a whole lot of fruits and veggies! A walk around the block every night also is a good thing! Good habits are good! I am trying hard to do it......it is just not easy!

"Eating for Life" by Bill Phillips
I do well by not eating anything white:
Potatoes, white rice, white breads, refined sugar, pasta and fats that turn solid at room temperature. I've lost 19lbs. since New Years by just avoiding these foods. I've also cut down on beer, though.

I follow a similar eating plan (6 meals per day) but use the glycemic index.
