I like new music from old bands. I can't really get into the new stuff b/c a lot of it sounds the same kinda. I did pick up Hellyeah's CD, Stonesour and Avenge Sevenfolds latest album. I do like Sevendust and I got the new NiN albus as well.
But I am still a Fear Factory, Slayer, Type O Negative, 90's alternative listening type of guy. I just put on Lithium 24 on Sirius and I am good to go!

to those that like country.

its much more bluegrass...but theres a new band out there that I love, that has a very bluegrass feel, with a acoustic mixed in.

The Avett Brothers...theyre so great, Ive seen em twice now and loved every bit of each show.

Theyre bluegrass meets acoustic and i love it, the band is 3 guys. One plays banjo, one plays acoustic, and one plays stand up bass...and the two guitarists (well and banjoist) play a drum each, one plays a hi-hat and the other a bass pedal and thats their drums, just foot pedals, and its so good. They sing together and harmonize better than any band ive heard in a long time. Maybe since Dispatch, but, even like a Simon and Garfunkel ability.

Song called "Suspect Genius". You might have to turn it up as it's an MP3. The other stuff might be a bit on the mellow side for ya...

So I feel weird having not heard of them before but I'm working a show coming here soon for Wilco.

"A Ghost is Born" (2004) won Grammy Awards for Best Alternative Rock Album and Best Recording Package.

Have I really lived in a dark hole and somehow totally missed out on them or do I perhaps know some of their stuff w/out realizing it? I listen off and on to the alternative rock stations all the time and yet this seems to be the first time I've heard of them, not to mention I didn't see them mentioned in this thread.

I was living in Columbus in 1990 attending CCAD as a freshman. I heard the song, 3 Strange Days, on CD101 ba`k when it was truely an alternative radio station. I went out and bought tickets to see School of Fish that night at the Newport. A GREAT show. A GREAT album.

I used to catch them in Bowling Green as an act called Uncle Tupelo. Jeff Tweedy's old band.

They are all "older" alt.

School of Fish had two albums. "3 Strange Days" was their alternative radio play, but the album is really good I,MHO. One of the guys went onto The Wallflowers.

Screaming Trees had a couple of radio plays. "I Nearly Lost You" was one of them and it was in the movie "Singles" as I recall. They were under the radar a bit as it was a Pearl Jam world then.

Possum Dixon had a radio play with "Watch That Girl Destroy Me" I loved the song and bought the CD with it back in my DJ years. Its a good album with a little bit of a required taste. Its clever and different.

I wanted to go see them.

Glad it was a good show. Do you agree they were ahead of their time?

I don't know about them being ahead of their time. I just think they were the type of band that had one good album in them and they nailed it with their first one. Their second album wasn't nearly as well written or put together. They faded because of it.
But I can still go back and listen to songs like Fell, or Rose Colored Glasses and enjoy the hell out of them.

I didn't quite write what I meant to. I meant more of them being to early for the alternative move from college radio to main stream. I think they could have shared in the success of the "boom".

Yes, I think if they had come out with the same album about two years later they may have made abigger splash. As it stood the album was REALLY well received amongst my group of friends . I even turned some people onto them that were not into "alternative" music at the time. It was just a good album and anyone that appreciates well crafted songs with lyrics that say something would probably enjoy it.
If my memeory serves me correctly they played a good show that night at the Newport. But I wouldn't say they blew me away. Having seen Alice In Chains at Staches prior to them making it big, you could tell the difference. You could tell by listening to them that Alice In Chains was something truely special. School Of Fish was a good band with one hell of a debut album. Alice in Chains at the time was a REALLY good band that had a sound and energy about them that made them stand out. You could sense something big about to happen.

Dope somehow has local Cleveland ties, I know they travel with Mushroomhead quite a bit. One of the original founders of DOPE is Tripp Eisen who was the guitarist for Static X after Koichi left(Koichi is back now). Tripp Eisen was fired from the band because he was caught sleeping with 14 yeard old girls in two separate cases, in two different states. Last I heard he was still incarcerated in Cali on one of the cases.

That's the first time I seen the video for the song. I love the song, not so sure about the video, but it is around a 16 year old video ...man how time flies. RIP Josh Clayton-Felt.
