AP - Apr 2, 11:33 pm EDT NFL Gallery CINCINNATI (AP)—Bengals wide receiver Chris Henry has been accused of punching an 18-year-old man in the face and breaking his car window with a beer bottle, according to court documents filed Wednesday.

Henry, 24, was charged with misdemeanor assault and criminal damaging in the Monday incident in Cincinnati. A warrant for his arrest was issued in Hamilton County Municipal Court.

The player has had a string of problems with police. He most recently was in court last week after being ticketed for driving with expired Kentucky license plates. He paid $149, according to the Hamilton County Municipal Court records.

Henry, who was arrested four times during a 14-month span, was suspended by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell for the first half of last season for repeatedly violating the league’s conduct policy.

A message seeking comment was left late Wednesday for Henry’s attorney, Robert Lotz.

Bengals spokesman Jack Brennan said the team is aware of the charges but declined comment.

The player’s agent, Marvin Frazier, said Henry gave him a different version of events but declined to elaborate.

“I was told it didn’t happen that way,” Frazier said.

According to an affidavit filed in Hamilton County, Henry was identified by Gregory Meyer, whose hometown was not listed, and an eyewitness. The eyewitness claimed Henry punched Meyer, causing “visible injury.” Henry then threw a beer bottle at Meyer’s car, breaking the rear passenger window, according to the affidavit.

After his most recent arrest, Henry pleaded guilty to letting minors drink alcohol in a hotel room he had rented. He served two days in jail.

The Bengals issued a statement expressing frustration with Henry when he was in traffic court a year ago for driving with a suspended license.

Following his NFL suspension, Henry caught 21 passes for 343 yards and two touchdowns.

Really Chris Henry?!?!?! REALLY?!?!

I thought Pacman was dumb...but, if youve seen the problems Pacman Jones is having, and you still do something like this, youre dumber. Ugh.

First reaction: Big Laugh!
Second reaction: Check the time and too bad its too late to call bengal friends.
Third reaction: chuckle some more
Fourth reaction: Think it through and... <see below>

Henry does claim that 'it wasn't him', and a similar incident happened sometime back (not sure when exactly - can't keep up with all the blotters he makes) when kids stated that they were beaten up by Henry and friends, which it turned out to not be true, as the kids dropped the charges against Henry. However this certainly cannot help him as he was given a 'zero-tolerance', or something like that, by the commish when he was reinstated this past season.

He had been 'good' for so long to get himself reinstated, and now this. Staying out of trouble would have afforded the bengals the 'option' to trade stinko, if they were to choose to do so.

Now however he is most likely going to be suspended for at minimum 8 games, or likely a full year, IF the charges are true and he is found guilty. Although the commish isn't one to wait for the courts to settle things, but he does get both sides of the story then do something. IF he does take an action against henry the ruling will probably be just prior to the draft, to give the bengals the option(s) necessary to adjust to this incident (if any are needed at all).

(more chuckling)

Statistics are like a bikini; what they show is interesting, but what they hide is vital.

I was going to tell you this would be removed because it was already posted in the shack this morning. I was suprised to find out this isn't avbout driving with expired plates.

This goes beyond being dumb. He has serious mental problems to keep repeating such destructive behavior. I find it too sad to even joke about him. This guy needs serious help, if he doesn't get it somebody is gonna die. Whether it's him or someone else I don't know.

After the last incident (being falsely accused), I'll give him the "innocent until proven guilty" treatment but, if this is true, I think Goodell said he's done...for good.

If Henry is suspened for the season and #85 refuses to show up for camp, the Bungles have a serious problem.

I never realized just how strange looking that guy is.......very creepy looking...

he may have some kind of mental retardation(not joking & not poking fun)... I mean someone who just continually gets in trouble like this is just ridiculous, especially in the position he is in

I had a cousin that always did stuff like this when he was younger...(fighting, not obeying parents, & failing school) he is now 21 and has just been diagnosed with a learning dis-order and ADHD... and guess what since he started getting real help for these dis-orders he has been just fine...a perfect angel

again not poking fun at the guy, but when there is stuff like this continually happening to a person you have to look at some kind of illness or dis-order that is potentially causing this behavior

I agree, you really have to start wondering.

Could also be the company he keeps. You never know if it's a "Vick" type situation, surrounded by a bunch of thugs that you feel you owe loyalty to.

In any event, I have a feeling he's going to have plenty of time to think about it since he's more than likely out of a job for at least a while.

Good thing he has his millions to help him. Wouldn't it be nice if they made him pay most of that back, even stuff he's already earned?

BREAKING NEWS: Bengals waive Henry

The Bengals just moments ago said they have waived wide receiver Chris Henry.

Bengals president Mike Brown issued the following statement:

"Chris Henry has forfeited his opportunity to pursue a career with the Bengals. His conduct can no longer be tolerated.

"The Bengals tried for an extended period of time to support Chris and his potentially bright career. We had hoped to guide him toward an appropriate standard of personal responsibility that this community would support and that would allow him to play in the NFL. We acknowledge those fans who had concerns about Chris; at the same time we tried to help a young man.

"But those efforts end today, as we move on with what is best for our team."

That looks legit.

Anyone else think that they'll now ship Johnson out? Even before Henry was busted (again) Lewis had finally drawn the line in the sand. Now that they don't have a backup plan in case Johnson was moved, there's no way in Hell they'd ship him out.

As for Henry........

Bengals release WR Henry after assault charge

Associated Press

CINCINNATI -- The Bengals today released troubled wide receiver Chris Henry on the heels of his most recent legal troubles.

"Chris Henry has forfeited his opportunity to pursue a career with the Bengals," team president Mike Brown said in a statement released by the club. "His conduct can no longer be tolerated. "

Henry has been accused of punching an 18-year-old man in the face and breaking his car window with a beer bottle, according to court documents filed Wednesday.

Henry, 24, was charged with misdemeanor assault and criminal damaging in the Monday incident in Cincinnati. A warrant for his arrest was issued Wednesday, and Henry surrendered, a police spokesman said.

Henry was being held in the Hamilton County jail pending a court appearance Thursday.

The player's agent, Marvin Frazier, said Henry gave him a different version of events but declined to elaborate.

"I was told it didn't happen that way," Frazier said.

Henry has had a string of problems with police. He most recently was in court last week after being ticketed for driving with expired Kentucky license plates. He paid $149, according to the Hamilton County Municipal Court records.

Henry, who was arrested four times during a 14-month span, was suspended by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell for the first half of last season for repeatedly violating the league's conduct policy.

"We had hoped to guide him toward an appropriate standard of personal responsibility that this community would support and that would allow him to play in the NFL. We acknowledge those fans who had concerns about Chris; at the same time we tried to help a young man. But those efforts end today, as we move on with what is best for our team ."

Court records don't indicate that Henry has hired an attorney in the new case.

According to an affidavit filed in Hamilton County, Henry was identified by Gregory Meyer, whose hometown was not listed, and an eyewitness. The eyewitness claimed Henry punched Meyer, causing "visible injury." Henry then threw a beer bottle at Meyer's car, breaking the rear passenger window, according to the affidavit.

Henry's final, destructive week

BY EILEEN KELLEY AND KIMBALL PERRY

He’s been berated by judges, chided by the public, jailed, suspended, and on occasion – when he is able to play – brilliant on the field.

Chris Henry, wide receiver. Chris Henry, Bengals Bad Boy and household name even to those who don’t grasp football.

Starting in December 2005 and through much of 2006 and 2007, Henry was a mainstay of negative news: drug charges, possession of a gun, DUI and jail time for drinking in a Covington hotel room with underage girls, among other charges that sullied his reputation and that of his franchise.

After missing half the 2007 season while suspended by the league, Henry came back. For a time, his life seemed tame.

That ended in one whirlwind week.

First, he appeared in court last week to pay a $149 fine for driving around Cincinnati with expired license tags.

Then, an avalanche hit the wide receiver, leaving Henry in jail by Thursday and causing the Bengals to finally cut him loose.

At around 2 a.m. Sunday, he and several members of the team were kicked out of a hip downtown nightclub, Bang on Fourth Street, after a police officer on a security detail called for help.

“We got a few Bengals players in here, Chris Henry, Chad Johnson and them,” the officer says on his call for backup, citing two of the players he recognizes. “They are destroying the ceiling in the back room and they are all highly intoxicated. The bar owners …want them ejected from the bar and we are going to try to eject them now. They have been rowdy all night.”

Neither Henry nor his teammates were arrested.

The following night, an 18-year-old University of Cincinnati student would tell police that Henry punched him in the skull and destroyed a window in his car when he threw a beer bottle at it.

By the time police arrived, Henry was long gone, said his friend Whitney Jackson.
Days later, a warrant for his arrest was sent out.

Henry wore a navy blue and white workout suit when he stood before a judge in Hamilton County Municipal Court Thursday to face charges of assault and criminal damaging from the Monday night incident.

Henry pleaded not guilty.

Judge Bernie Bouchard ordered him jailed on $51,000 bond.

“You’ve kind of become a one-man crime wave,” Bouchard said, citing Henry’s extensive criminal history.

Should Henry bond out of jail, he won’t be able to go far. He’ll be under house arrest and will be fitted with an electronic global positioning system that will monitor his whereabouts every 30 seconds.

Henry, who has moved from Florence to downtown Cincinnati, was told not to drink, to stay away from the alleged assault victim, 18-year-old Greg Meyer.

Meyer lives in a four-story off-campus apartment complex on Ohio Avenue in the Clifton Heights area. Henry’s friend Jackson also lives there.

When police arrived at the Ohio Avenue apartment late Monday, Jackson and another woman were arrested.

Jackson said Thursday that as she was being hauled off to jail on menacing charges, a police officer told her that a warrant would be issued for Henry’s arrest.
They made good on that on Wednesday.

Jackson said Henry became unhinged after hearing a racial slur.

“Chris Henry would have never beat his a-- if he hadn’t called Chris a n---,” Jackson said.

Attempts to reach Meyer in person and over the phone were not successful Thursday.

Court records suggest Jackson may have incited the incident when she allegedly told the victim: “I’m going to get Chris Henry here to beat your a--.”

Jackson said she came out of the building after Henry struck Meyer and that Meyer didn’t even realize that his attacker was Henry until she told him. Jackson is due back in court on April 18.

Jackson said she struggles that her friend lost his career.

“It’s no fair,” she said. “I wish that somebody could see that it is not fair that Chris Henry is cut out of football; yes is a professional, but it was racial intimidation.”

Henry’s attorney, Perry Ancona, disputed the information provided by police and called the bond “outrageous,” asking the judge to lower it.

“It’s not outrageous,” Bouchard countered.

NFL suspends released Bengals WR Henry for four games

NEW YORK -- Wide receiver Chris Henry was suspended by the NFL on Thursday for four games but may play the final 12 games of the regular season for any team that signs him.

Henry was released by Cincinnati in April after his fifth arrest. Commissioner Roger Goodell had suspended Henry indefinitely following his latest arrest. The charges against him on that arrest were subsequently dropped.

The 25-year-old player, one of a number of Bengals in trouble with the law the past few seasons, then applied for reinstatement.

Henry may participate in training camp and exhibition games if he is signed. He will be eligible for reinstatement following the fourth game of the season.

Henry was suspended for the first eight games of the 2007 season under the league's personal conduct policy. He returned to catch 21 passes for 343 yards and two touchdowns in eight games.

But the Bengals released him after he was accused of punching a University of Cincinnati student and breaking his car window with a beer bottle.

A jury failed to reach a verdict on an assault charge, resulting in a mistrial. Prosecutors dropped the case following unfavorable rulings by a judge before the retrial was to start

Oh, MAN

We gotta get this--

-whatdahell am I saying?

Seriously, there are people everywhere who are incredibly talented, but whose demons prevent them from ever reaching their potential. It's sad, but it's been true since the dawn of time. Eventually, they reach a point where their problems outweigh their promise- and it's time to forget about them. I'd say that Chris Henry has reached that point.... but...

...somewhere, there's a coach out there with a big enough ego who thinks he can straighten this kid out- and who is salivating at the prospect of signing him on.

caveat emptor, coach.

I don't know if there are any coaches actually salivating at signing him but some coach/GM is either really thin at WR or is going to lose a WR or two to injury during camp and is going to take the risk...

Almost certain its not gonna happen but could you imagine this...

Browns coming out in a Shhotgun Spread formation with...

wide left - Braylon
inside left - Stallworth
wide right - CHRIS HENRY
inside right - Kellen
single back - Cribbs

The guy is an idiot but maybe he's worth a shot. I mean could you imagine defenses trying to stop that offense ?!?!

That would be crazy scary for defensive coordinators... Thoughts?

My thoughts are that there is already a thread on this subject somewhere on here...LOL

But I'll answer,.... why would I or anyone want a guy that is always in trouble on this team.... I would have to pass...

1. This could have gone in the existing Chris Henry thread

2. You wouldn't be able to come out in that formation until Week 5 at the earliest because Henry has been suspended Yet Again.

3. NO WAY IN HELL would I want that guy here.

4 through 100... see #3.

No real thoughts on this but my gut hurts from laughing. I hope the Browns don't waste their time on Henry, his crime committing to catch ratio, is pretty level so you won't get too much bang for your buck out of Henry unless he shoots someone.

If I had to guess either Dallas or Oakland would scoop the guy up, Davis and Jones seem like the only two owners who find players of this caliber (and no I am not talking about Henry's gun) and behavior acceptable.

IN '89, my father managed a hotel downtown that had close ties to the Tribe. He went way back with a lot of the coaching staff...anyway, the Tribe was a little wary of Joey Belle...they thought he was volatile, and so after his rookie season they made him work as an 'accountant' at my father's hotel (as that was what he apparently studied at LSU?). So he showed up three or four days a week and did little projects and got a little bonus money from Tribe...the gig lasted a few months until they felt he was adjusted.

One couldn't possibly fathom anything like that happening today in sports...but that's exactly the sort of thing this kid needs if any team takes a chance on him.

I get what you're saying.

Most of these guys have never seen the kinds of jobs their fans do for a living.... scraping by on just enough, and saving like mad for ONE pro football game per year with their families.

Honest, hard work is good for the soul. Even if you only work at it part-time, or as an intern- seeing it and doing it gives you an appreciation for it's value. Best job I ever had for that was working as a day laborer in an oil refinery.

If anything, it couldn't hurt to have every one of these millionaires experience the humble lifestyles that help to fatten their paychecks. Just maybe, a small percentage of them will then have an appreciation for the kind of money they're about to "earn."

I can see it now-

"Hi. I'm Stewart Scott, with breaking news from the NFL. This just in to the e-spin newsdesk: the NFL has instituted a new league-wide policy. Here's what Roger Goodell had to say:"

[Roger Goodell]:
'From this point on, all incoming rookies will automatically receive mandatory 'redshirt' status for their first year in service to the NFL. During the first year of his contract, said rookie will be expected to participate in all team activities except gametime participation. In that same redshirt year, rookies will also be expected (but not required) to attend money management, personal ethics, and criminal justice seminars. In addition, all incoming rookies will be required to work for three (3) consecutive months in a randomly-selected civilian job. Said job will commence at the earliest convenience of the player following his drafting, and will conclude when the requisite 90 day interval of 'civilian service' has been satisfied. Only after this service interval has been completed, can contract negotiations begin. Job assignments will be selcted at random, and culled from a pool of jobs described in fan profiles, taken from voluntary website questionnaires at NFL dot com. This new policy is designed to work hand-in-hand with the NFL's recently-adopted policy of 2-and-out... which has been extremely successful in cleaning up the NFL and lessening the crushing load upon our nation's criminal justice system. We at the NFL believe in this new policy, and are confident that it will help to stem the flow of Michael Vick-, Adam Jones- and Chris Henry-type players into our ranks. Thank you- and God bless American Football.' "

"Once again- redshirt rookies in the No Fun League. I'm Stewart Scott- all up in yo' hizzy wit da 4-1-1, fo' shizzy. Now, back to our regularly scheduled program- NFL Jive." ["Hey- where's Sean?" Are we off the air?"]

I know it sounds extreme, but I'm only half joking with this post. I for one am really sick of seeing my weekend sports entertainers showing up on the "police blotter segment" of my daily sports news.

imho, these kids will get their millions soon enough. A little "humble pie" might help some of them , even if it means changing the way rookies come into their new teams. The League would adjust. Coaches and staff would change the way they plan for each season's new crop of rookies, and the NFL will go on- a little different, but still essentially the same. And maybe a little cleaner, as a result.
