Duuuuuuuude! Two word: Van Hagar! From the ones you listed, Eagles. Mainly because most of them could stand on their own. What's up with the Beach Boys? I feel like I'm on Sesame Street.... "one of these things is not like the other..." JK

I think it's funny that you put KISS on there.
And I refuse to vote since you didn't list Led Zepplin.

Zep was a British band.
Of that list, probably the Eagles.

I voted Eagles, but would choose The Allman Brothers if they were listed.

Did you say that with a straight face? Maybe Henley put out some songs that some people would consider hits, but what did the rest of the guys do? Although Smuggler's Blues is a nice guilty pleasure.
Personally, I think the Eagles are one of the most overrated bands of all-time. I did not hear anything earth-shattering in their music or lyrics that would scream to me greatness. They put out some good songs, but did it really take five guys to make them? I don't know, I'm kind of underwhelmed with them.
I know it's not listed because they are not a U.S. band, but Zeppelin is, IMO, the greatest band of all-time. Starting off they stole some lyrics and stuff, but they added music that is just timeless. As the years went on, they came into their own and made some of the best songs ever. Strong guitar, strong drums, and a classic front man. So many songs that are just iconic.
From the list, I guess I'd go with the Doors. They were the most original.
LOL - The Rish will be upset with this news as well. KS just doesn't prioritize winning...

From the list, the only CD I own, is the Doors. So I voted them.

Tough poll! I like Kiss the best, but could easily vote for the Doors, Eagles, or Aerosmith... but I went with Kiss

Since you posted only U.S. rock bands...I had to go with the Doors! Although Grand Funk should have been on that list as well as others! If you would have stated the GREATEST band of all time.....that would be extremely tough! Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young were much better than the Beach Boys if you ask me! But overall, I say the Doors did quit well in their days!

Admittedly, I wondered the same thing as Ammo, but since KISS was on, I felt the need not to complain. Thought about Jovi as well.

Triumph, Rush or Aldo Nova... Yes I know they're Canadian, but they want to be American. Just giving some love to your homies. I didn't like the choices much. I picked the Eagles because the only other one worth mentioning was Aerosmith. Aerosmith put out a lot og good music but all their recent crap disqualifies them. Without think too hard I would say Skynard.

I voted for the Eagles, but the Doors were very good too.
I think you should have put CSN&Y on the list. What about the Grateful Dead? Lynyrd Skynrd and the Allman Brothers? Or don't you consider them rock? I do. I think Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers should be up there, or aren't they American? Why not include Dylan or Springstein? I know they had individual names, but they did have a band behind them.
Man, the British sure kicked our ass in this category, didn't they?

I get the feeling that that is Lampy's point ...
Its very hard to say who is the best because there really is no definition for "rock music". How can you compare the Allman Brothers and Grateful Dead and Aerosmith and Steely Dan and The Eagles and The Doors, etc with all their disparate styles and influences? Impossible, even though they all have impressive bodies of work and huge legions of fans. "Rock music" is really pop music, which is to say, not Classical. The quality, or lack thereof, of a given type of music is purely subjective. Which explains how so much crap gets produced and played over the air and how "artists" like Madonna get into the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame, which should really change its name to the "Pop Music Hall of Fame".

Why Molly Hatchet of course. The Pride of Jacksonville, Florida. Also, Lynyrd Skynyrd (The Ronnie Van Zandt years.), Blackfoot, The Allman Brothers Band, Grand Funk Railroad, and CCR definately should be there also. Van Halen w/ David Lee Roth deserves mention as well.

Um..........................where is Skynyrd, or The Dead, or CCR.
With that sad, I have to vote for The Doors. Cuz I really don't like any of the other choices. Especially The Beach Boys---worst band EVER--worst songs worst everything. Everytime I hear those stupid songs I want to punch Brian Wilson in the face.
And I hate the freaking Eagles, man.
I wish to wash my Irish wristwatch......

Pretty sad that The Doors are behind the Eagles. In my not so humble opinion the Doors are the greatest band of all time not just the greatest American band. And where is DEVO if your going to have an american band list there are two essentials... The Doors and Devo.

Pop...rock...don't matter...it was a huge mistake to put Madonna in the R&RHOF, just like it was a mistake to induct Grandmaster Flash,Broose Springsteen, and John Menstrualcramp.

I am not saying I agree or disagree with you but that was not my point. I was not saying whether Madonna hould be in the rock hall or not. I was just saying that pop musiccan be considered a branch of rock.
On a side note. Whether you like him or not, you dont think Bruce Springsteen should be in the rock hall? I am not really a Springsteen fan but would never think he doesnt deserve the rock hall.

Not to be argumentative, but I think rock is a branch of pop, not vice-versa. I think if rock music has a lineage it would go something like this, because it is so derivative:
Jazz>>Blues>>Country>>R&B>>Rock
All those genre are "Pop Music", IMO.

I just don't think of the Beach Boys as rock. That's just me though.
I bet Nirvana could have been listed if it weren't for Cobain's early and unfortunate death.
