Skybus

Skybus Airlines will cease all operations effective Saturday, April 5.
Skybus struggled to overcome the combination of rising jet fuel costs and a slowing economic environment. These two issues proved to be insurmountable for a new carrier.

We deeply regret the impact this decision will have on our employees and their families, customers, vendors, suppliers, airport officials and others in the cities in which we have operated. Our financial condition is such that our Board of Directors felt it had no choice but to cease operations.

Passengers holding reservations for Skybus flights scheduled to depart on or after Saturday, April 5, 2008 should contact their credit card companies to arrange to apply for a refund. More information for customers and others will be made available on the Skybus web site (www.skybus.com) as it becomes available.

All flights for Friday, April 4 will be completed. Passengers holding reservations on flights for Friday, April 4 should check in for their flight at a Skybus kiosk at the airport instead of the Skybus website.

It sucks for everyone that is planning a trip from now on. At least I got to go to San Fran and Tampa for 10 bucks! Skybus, you will always have a place in my heart!

They came to town last Dec and managed to get one flight to Columbus for a game for $50 round trip.

They canceled flights out of here a month ago......bummer.

I was looking forward to flying to Columbus and renting cars from there.

For the price, it was worth the aggravation of flying. At the prices charged now, it isn't. Looks like I will be driving to Cleveland 5 times this year.

I will do what I have always done. Head out Friday afternoon, spend the night up around Cincy and get into Cleveland around noon time on Saturday for a leisurely afternoon of wings, beer, and college football at Winking Lizard.

Then on Sunday, make it just south of Columbus, then hit it for 7 hours home. If it is a 4pm game, just stick in Cleveland and make the 10 hour trek on Monday.

If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.

I was supposed to go to Daytona Memorial Day weekend. 3 people roundtrip for $108 bucks. Now we're deciding whether to drive, or cancel that trip and go to the family cabin instead. Either way its 16 hours of driving minimum.

Minimum being the key word.

Another victim of the staggering economy.

No worries though. We will just borrow billions more from the Chinese and Japanese to fund the war.

To Daytona, Florida its about a 14 hour drive. Its between 7 and 8 to our cabin. At this point I think we're going to drive to Florida instead. It's only going to cost about 100 bucks more, not counting the time... Our flight was 108 for the three of us. The car rental was 100. It'll be about 300 in gas roundtrip. The time driving is the part we have to decide we want to put up with.

That seems a little short.

It is about 7 hours Chattanooga to Columbus, and 5 hours from Chattanooga to the Fla line.

I don't know how you would make it to Daytona in 1 more??? Gainesville is about 1 hour from the Ga line and Dayton is south and east from there.

How do you go.....75???

I don't race, but I don't drive slow...I will set the cruise on 75 most of the time.

But I am past the point of killing myself too...I don't drive more than 3 hours without getting out for 10 or so minutes....and anything over a 6 hour drive gets a 30-40 minute break.

From Columbus, Jax was one of the Skybus airports. Now, my plans for the Jax game this year are in jeopardy. Boy, am I irritated.

Looks like Nashville will be my only road trip this year

If we drive straight through it will be down 77... 14 hrs 15 mins according to google maps.

We might stop in atlanta to and from to visit my uncle, which would increase the total time but at least break it up.

How about DC, Saint? Pending the upcoming schedule, I'm still looking at Nashville, Washington DC, and Buffalo.

Well, it should be one heck of a road trip then.

Since you are saving cash only going on one "road" trip, you can stay downtown so you can walk beck to your room after a big night at Tootsies and Roberts Western World.

A couple of honest to goodness, guitar picking, beer drinking honky tonks.

Nashville is a nice place to spend a weekend.

I understand the schedule means much, but Nashville is a good time...that is if you like to have a good time, don't mind a few cowboys hootin' it up and lot's of girls with tight fitting jeans.

You sold me Peen I have a feeling I'm REALLY gonna like that city.

I'm definitely doing Nashville, just unsure of the second game (not counting Buffalo since it's such an easy drive...although I did spend 9 hours getting home back in '04).

Hopefully Washington and Nashville are spaced out on the schedule, and not back to back weekends.
