Dang.........that's sad. I knew his health was failing again after a brief turn for the better, but I didn't know he was that close.

You know...........for not a big-time city, Cleveland has been lucky w/it's sports announcers in all three sports over the years.

Guys like Gib, Nev, Casey, and Donovan in football. All pretty damn good.

Tait and Michael Reghi or however you spell it in basketball. And I apologize, but I love Austin Carr.

Tait used to do baseball and I actually like Bruce Drennen when he was the color guy for the Indians. How could I forget this..........Len Barker had just been arrested for marijuana, and Tait and Bruce come on the air. Barker is scheduled to start and Tait does the usual professional opening. Bruce says.........I know I can't talk about the details, but let's just say that Big Leninie is going to come out smokin' tonight. LOL And you all have to admit............Hamilton is pretty good. This is before most of you guys time..........but, I used to love Mud Cat Grant. He was an ex Oakland As pitcher, and he was a piece of work. He was as country as it gets. If anyone else remembers him........do you remember what he said after a high and tight fast ball? .........."ooohhhh, there's a little chin music, Harry." LOL........that drawl made it a classic.

And Gibber.........I didn't care much for you as a sports anchor, but as a play-by-play guy for football.............you were damn good. Thanks for the memories.

In the past two and a half years, Cleveland has lost Gib Shanley, Casey Coleman, Chuck Heaton and Hal Lebovitz. Its almost an entirely new generation in sports coverage now. RIP Gib.

Besides being the best of the Browns' voices I ever heard, I will never forget Gib burning an Iranian flag - on the air, at the end of his sportscast - when Iran took our people hostage in 1979. Rest in peace Gibber, you were the best.

Aww man that sucks. He did Browns football before my time but I do remember watching him on Channel 43 when I was growing up. 43 was the first 10:00 news.

Those 4 were some of the best.

The Journal is still not the same with Hal Lebovitz...

That cant be right, I think that should say 1994. Shanley was still on Channel 43 well into the 90s and was still their sports director till not too long ago.

Gib was THE voice of Cleveland sports when I was a kid. He was one of a kind and leaves behind great memories. Hey Gib, have a couple cold ones with Nev while you enjoy the Browns this season!! RIP.

Just want to post my condolences to the family of Gib Shanley. Mr,. Shanley was indeed the "voice" of the Browns. Before the days of ESPN and every game being broadcast on TV, it was Gib and his partner Jim Graner that brought the Browns' games to life each Sunday. Who can forget The Quarterback Club hosted by Gib?

RIP Gib. Growing up I always watch Channel 5 News because of your sports commentary. After giving the sports I liked to hear your take.
