Just kind of a random question here. You can list your favorites or talk about certain ones, just kind of an open question. Also, suggest some if you want to, I am always up for a game with a good story.

My List:

Final Fantasy series (with 7 being my favorite)
Suikoden series
Xenogears and Xenosaga series
Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross
Elder Scrolls Morrowind and Oblivion

I really like the Elder Scrolls games, as well as games like X-men Legends. Far as traditional turn based rpgs, the only one I could ever get in to was Earthbound on SNES.

I own every final fantasy except the original FF3 that never came to America. FF6 was my favorite (It was called FF3 in the USA because originally 2,3 & 5 were not released outside of Japan, FF4 was called FF2 here)

I also really liked Chrono Trigger (SNES) and Chrono Cross(PS1) but I didn't play Chrono Trigger until it was rerelease on the PS1 with Final Fantasy Chronicles.

Final Fantasy XI Online had one of the best story lines but like most MMORPG's it has a monthly fee and requires more time that I can afford to give.

I started on the Elder Scrolls with Morrowind and now I am playing Oblivion. I have beaten every guild except fighters and once I'm done with that I'll work on the main quest and then Shivering Isles.

I love RPGs

By far, the best RPG I have ever played is Earthbound for the SNES. It's a funny game - a lot of games try to be funny, but fail miserably. Earthbound is generally laugh out loud funny at times. The characters are great, and there's a huge fan community based around the game found here.

Other great RPGs:
FF6, FF7, FF IX
Super Mario RPGS (SNES)
the Shadow Hearts series (especially the second one, Shadow Hearts: Covenant)

Not too big of a fan of some of the more recent RPGs I've played. FF XII had such a bad storyline, that I didn't even finish.

Also, someone mentioned Xenogears. I liked the game until the last disc, then I totally lost interest.

EDIT: Oh, and Chrono Trigger! How'd I forget that? I enjoyed Chrono Cross too, but have only played through it once. I admittedly need to go back through it.

Yes, I used to play the Final Fantasy series a lot, but no so much now; maybe I need to get back into it. I always remember the graphics, storyline, and everything in those games were top notch. When Final Fantasy was in it's hay day , it could not be beat. And I would also say that it could be THE best RPG ever.

Just curious if anyone could give me any suggestions for a good RPG to look for. I have a PS1 and PS2 along with a 360, so I can get any games for those systems. I am just looking for some suggestions since I will be on nightshift at work after school for the next month or 2 and need something to kill my time. I just started a new save on FF7 about a week ago, but I can go through that game pretty quick since there isn't much else to do between 5am and 9am. Any suggestions will do.

2 Games I liked for the PS2 was Baulders Gate One and Baulders Gate Two- The first one you can pick up at the local game store for around $10- the second one is rarer to find and tends to run around $30 for a used one- Both games are very fun and addictive, hope that helps If you want a REALLY good RPG for your computer check out Diablo One and Two which offer free online play through their Blizzard Servers. Hope that helps.

Big RPG player here, going back to the 80s with early Ultima and Bard's Tale games.

The best RPG, and in fact, best game of any genre I've EVER played was Planescape: Torment (release Dec 1999). Incredibly deep, mature subject matter that wasn't just black and white. The goal wasn't to defeat the big evil monster at the end of the game... it was to discover yourself. Some of the writing is the best I've seen in any video game. Its the type of experience that changes you if you allow yourself to be drawn into the role.

FF7 is my favorite game of all time, and I have played my fair share of games.

No better story out there IMO, and Crisis Core is a must have if you liked the FF7 story.

I would go into detail on why I like it so much, but I wouldn't be able to stop myself.

LOVE rpg's.

KOTOR 1 & 2
Jade Empire
Fable
Mass Effect

I think we see a pattern forming here.

I like action RPGs...turn based is just too cartoonish for me

The original Final Fanatasy (FF3?) was one of the best games ever. I even have it as a ROM on my PC at home and have gone back and played using an NES Emulator.

Neverwinter Nights and Dungeon Siege were cool, I like the expandability of Neverwinter, but the single player for DS was just plain fun.

I haven't really played too much beyond that being more of a RTS (& somewhat FPS) fan (can't wait for StarCraft 2!).

The pattern for you is this - Bioware made 4 of the 5 games you enjoyed that are RPGs.

BTW - Mass Effect is easily one of my favorite games ever made as well.

I'm a fan of most RPG's by square. FF7 and 10 are my favorites. I dont know if there will ever be another RPG like FF7 ... it was just so revolutionary and inventive, and the story read like a fantasy classic book. My favorite part by far though was Chocobo breeding and racing I probably spent as much time getting that Gold chocobo as playing the storyline. Memories

Oblivion was a great game too, for one of my recents.

The game I'm awaiting now though is a MMO, unfortunately. Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures looks to be a great MMO that will break the mold of a fantasy MMO set forth by Everquest over a decade ago. Storyline has a single player mode and an MMO mode in it. It also demands the use of a player's skill at controlling their character and knowing the surroundings to make a group successful. You no longer turn on attack and your character starts swinging/shooting, the combos are based on something like a 2d Street fighter. Only downfall is you need a pretty decent rig to run it on medium even. Take a look if yall want

The original FF for NES really was awesome. There are so many games I love, including a lot of RPGs... but that one might just be my favorite. If you want to really plow through the game fast, set your party as Fi/Fi/Fi/Rdm or Fi/Fi/Rdm/Rdm. Trust me.

Boulders Gate is a real cool game. Even my wife got into that one. I couldn't find 2 anywhere except on half.com finally.

I used to play Asherons Call a lot back when I had 6 roomates. We all played together and it was a lot of fun. Now I don't have the time to play anything like that at all. I do play Lost Odyseey on 360 a little.

true...I do like BioWare's RPG's...they suit my style of game better.

I tried to play Enchanted Arms...which is actually a decent game, but it's just too slow for me.

Yeah, they are great. My brother an I happen to stumble across Suikoden 1 a long while ago and bought it without even knowing what it was, it just looked interesting. Now, like 10 years later or pretty close anyway, and we have all 5 of them, though a few disappointed me a little. Great series though.

I played Suikoden III, but couldn't really get into it. I remember, during that game, you get to choose between three characters of whom the leader will be. I picked the cool, very quiet Auron-like dude Geddoe. From that chapter on, all he did was talk non-stop and it completely ruined the character's coolness factor for me.

I've actually never played any others other than suikoden 1 and 2 due to me only having ps1. That's disappointing though that some of them aren't too good.

Suikoden 3 was one of the disappointmenst for me. There were a few things I liked, and the story was pretty good, but it just got hard to follow and stay into when you changed who you were controlling for the first 2/3 of the game or so. 1 and especially 2 are way better than 3.

Haha, yeah, apparently it is really rare. My older brother bought it for me for Christmas when it first came out, so we just piad the normal $30 or whatever it was then. I have seriously considered selling mine off simply because of the crazy prices.

YES! I'm watching this one closely. It's too bad that Obsidian Entertainment didn't pick up the rights for Fallout (OE is made up of a lot of Black Isle alum), but Bethesda did do quite well with Oblivion, and appear to be big fans, so I have my hopes up. I just read a recent update on the game and it sounds like they're bringing Dogmeat back, which is nice. Other than that, not much detail has been released.

One thing about Oblivion that worries me is that it had very scarce dialogue options... often just one word or small phrase. The previous Fallouts had great dialogue options, sometimes very funny, and almost always interesting. I hope Bethesda puts extra time in to keep that going.
