Yeah, it still is. Maybe not quite as crazy as it was, but the fans of both teams remember the "old" days and the players kind of feed off their energy when they meet. There is definitely something "extra" to Wings-Avs nights!

claude lemieux started that entire rivalry, i hated that guy, i believe it was draper that he checked from-behind, head first into the boards
for a while that was the best rivalry in hockey, and one of the best in all of sports... patrick roy, sackic, yzerman, fedorov... it seemed like the best players where all on those teams... good stuff

I didn't like either team or city but still tuned in to watch each game. And when I started thinking about that rivalry, I thought of this...
Lemieux - who carved out a reputation as a hockey villain - was playing for Colorado in the 1996 Western Conference finals when he broke the face of Detroit's Draper with an ugly check into the boards. Lemieux was ejected, but returned for the post-series ritual with the Red Wings - who grudgingly congratulated him.
Later, after seeing Draper's face, Detroit teammate Dino Ciccarelli said: "I can't believe I shook this guy's freaking hand."
One of the great all-time sports quotes in my book.
“...Iguodala to Curry, back to Iguodala, up for the layup! Oh! Blocked by James! LeBron James with the rejection!”

i really want the sharks to win, for roenick, the guy deserves a cup, this is probably it for him...

The playoffs have been good so far... great hockey in most of the series. I was hoping for Calgary and Boston to move on in the playoffs. Not going to happen. I'd rather Philly beat Montreal, and go Pens, I hate Sean Avery. Lebron, you of all people know that Avery is a chump.

yeah, he's a punk, your typical instigator...
if he didn't do what he does, he wouldn't be in the league...
the worst part of it, is that the media makes it out like his antics towards marty brodeur (3 rings to avery's 0) were the deciding factor in the rangers beating new jersey...
and the face-guarding tactic is trash... i would have put my stick into his face if i was marty

A 10-year-old playing street hockey would be shouted down by his peers, if he tried something like that. Anyone who knows hockey, knows it's a greasy thing to do. It's like a batter sneaking a peek at the catcher, to see the pitch location.
I'm watching the Sharks/Stars game right now.

Anybody see the Rangers get ripped on the waved off goal? There's no need for a quick whistle at that stage of a playoff game.
On a better note, Osgood is really stepping up his game. He's got the best save pct. of the remaining goalies in the playoffs, and he's 4-0. I really thought Hasek would be the deciding factor for the Wings.

Wow...Sharks aren't looking good being down 0-2 heading to Dallas. Ugh. Well, if there's one sport where home field (ice) advantage means less in relation to the other sports it's the NHL.
Come on Sharks!

A decent D, a hot goalie and two goals a game will take you to the promised land. If Ozzie can keep up his pace, the Wings will take it all.

i agree, although i think either the sharks or dallas will push detroit quite far...
when the playoffs started, i didn't think the wings had it in them to make a run, and i also thought that the eastern conference opponent that makes the finals had no chance
i'm now eating crow on both, because the wings look possessed, and pittsburgh and philly are both serious threats... i just worry a bit about biron, if you've watched him in buffalo, it just seems like your waiting for him to crack
and the pens are just flat out amazing... they put on one hell of a passing clinic...

The Penguins are a scary bunch. Their 2nd and 3rd lines would be the first line on most teams. I'm not sold on Fleury, though...he's let some bunnies through. In the late rounds, that's all it takes to lose a series. The Wings have learned this the hard way the last few years.

yeah, osgood has been there before
you're seeing the inexperience in a really promising goaltender in price, as well as ellis in nashville (i thought he was phenomenal in the det series)
osgood is no hall of famer, but behind that great defense, he shouldn't have to be spectacular
hasek is just too much of a gamble...

I made it until the end. It was 1:30 in the morning when the Stars scored on the PP. I swear, there should be a rule that NO PENALTIES should be called in an OT playoff hockey game. Both penalties were ticky-tack calls too. It was funny, I was watching the game with a few people new to the sport and had a feeling this one was going the distance. They were all ooing and ahhing during each scoring chance in the OT's. Unfortunately, three of the four feel asleep during the 2nd OT intermission and the other had to leave for home around midnight. Playoff OT hockey......one of the best thing about sports!

You could hate Claude all you want but all the guy did was win wherever he went. I still know that Draper got his face chewed up pretty good but really what Claude did wasnt all that bad. I dont think there is any way he could know that Draper would fall into the rail the way he did. Made for some interesting rivalry games though.

i thought it was a cheap hit, i still remember watching it to this day...
i was also a fan of the wings back then, so i am a little biased...
what a thriller last night in dallas, that may have been the best game since the lockout...
the goaltending was spectacular on both ends... nabakov absolutely robs a guy on an open net, and turco returns the favor by kicking out that right leg and stopping another possible goal...
dallas looks like that team of destiny right now...
if they come up short last night, there is no way they go into san jose and finish it off...
i'm sad to see roenick get this close, i hope he comes back, but i honestly think he's done, one of my favorite players growing up... (like i said, one of the toughest athletes of all time)
