Another loss coming tonight.

It would have to be luck tonight because it won't be skill from Fogg. Hopefully he had a bad day Saturday...yeah, maybe that's it. GO FOGG!!

We totally disagree on that, he should have reported people that were PMing him if it bothered him. Personally, I think those people were stupid. This is a message board, if you can't handle getting some ribbing for saying silly things, or spamming the board with nonsense, or just getting a hard time from people then you are either too young, too sensitive, or too whiney to be on a mostly adult message board. He apparently could dish it out but not take it. After seeing how he behaved when he left here, I don't think we are missing much from his absence. He's not quite as "nice" as we all thought. He certainly has the mouth of an older man. LOL.

This should be a high scoring game. If you guys are worried about Fogg wait till Bush starts getting rocked. I can't wait for Gallardo to come back so Bush can go to the pen. That guy might as well put it on a tee.

Back to the Reds. I really don't think that we should trade Dunn. He needs to improve on his strike outs and average but he has power and drives in runs. His on base percentage is very good and what difference is a strikeout than a popup in the infield or something similar. Though he should drive in more runs, as of now we don't have anyone who drives in as many. And very rarely does he get injured. I am however tired of his pathetic defense.

Some more off-subject things involving the Reds. Patterson is not a leadoff hitter. He's been driving in runs, but he doesn't have a good enough on base percentage to be leading off. I also wish we would get Hopper some more playing time. Cueto is very good. I love 18 k's to no walks. Nothing infuriates me more than a pitcher who walks guys. Fogg is horrible; Belisle needs to get healthy. Stormy Weathers is off to a bad start; hopefully he can pick it up. Kepp is hitting excellently as was to be expected. Votto's a lot better defensively than I expected, but he is off to a slow start hitting. Bako is doing well. He might actually stick around for a while once Ross is back. (Also I hate Javy's horrible defense).

I agree that Javy has value and we should keep him. I just see him as a 3rd catcher and top pinch hitter.

And something else: Griffey and Dunn's contracts are both up after this year; it'll be interesting to see what we do with them.

Looks like Homer had a pretty good game yesterday, got the win, pitched 5 2/3 innings, gave up 4 hits 1 walk and struck out 7.

Wish he could do better with the big boys.

Hah, I didn't even realize you were a Brewers fan. LOL. Yeah, Bush didn't look good. It worried me because the Reds are notorious for making awful pitchers look very good. They'll bat fine against some pretty good pitching and then make some awful slug look like the Cy Young winner.

How long until Gallardo returns, he is a sicko!

He pitched two days ago in the minors but isn't eligible to come of the DL until the 19th

Reds look for improvement in a pinch

Cincinnati (5-4) at Milwaukee (6-2), Thursday, 1:05 p.m. ET


MILWAUKEE -- Norris Hopper ended a pretty unflattering streak for the Reds on Wednesday night.
Until Hopper's soft bouncer to third base went for an infield single in the seventh inning, Reds pinch-hitters were 0-for-12 this season. Hopper, who was batting for reliever Mike Lincoln, later scored in Cincinnati's 12-4 win over the Brewers.

Since it's early in the season, starting pitchers usually don't work as deep into games as they do by midsummer. It makes pinch-hitting a more pivotal part of the game.

"We'll get something out there. We need to and we will," Reds manager Dusty Baker said before the game. "Because in the National League, you win a lot of games with pinch-hitters."

Pinch-hitting often requires a hitter to come off the bench after being inactive all night, perhaps several nights. The opposing pitcher is most often a hard-throwing reliever. Baker didn't pinch-hit often until he was toward the end of his career.

"A very tough job," he said. "In the hitters' meeting earlier, I tried to tell them some of the things about the good [Dodgers] pinch-hitters I played with -- Manny Mota, Jay Johnstone, Lee Lacy -- some real good pinch-hitters. [We talked about] their thought process, what to look for.

"It's a tough job for a young player. That's the job more for veteran players. A veteran player normally has some background for success so 0-for-1 won't drive him crazy."

So far, the Reds and Brewers have each won one game in the three-game series. Who knows, pinch-hitting could decide the outcome of the rubber game that will be played on Thursday afternoon at Miller Park.

Pitching matchup
CIN: RHP Aaron Harang (0-1, 2.77 ERA)
Although still looking for his first victory of the season, Harang pitched seven solid innings in his last start on Saturday afternoon against Philadelphia. He allowed just two runs on six hits, walked three and struck out six in a 108-pitch effort. The Phillies had the bases loaded with one out in the sixth, but Harang the next two batters to end the inning. Harang is 3-1 with a 4.01 ERA in six starts at Miller Park.

MIL: RHP Carlos Villanueva (1-0, 3.38 ERA)
Just 24 years old, Villanueva has already received plenty of kudos from manager and players alike with his unflappable nature, and he proved it in Milwaukee's home opener on Saturday. Though he allowed base hits to the last four batters he encountered, Villanueva preceded that with five shutout innings and picked up the victory.


Short hops:
Ken Griffey Jr. is 5-for-12 (.417) with one double and four strikeouts in previous encounters against Villanueva. ... Still on a rehab assignment with Class A Sarasota, David Ross caught and went 0-for-3 on Wednesday night vs. Lakeland. Ross, who is trying to return from back spasms, is 1-for-8 in three games. He is eligible to come off of the DL on Tuesday.
