Team Canada makes it three years in a row in world jrs.Congratulations boys.

LEKSAND, Sweden (AP) -- Canada scored three goals in a 3-minute span for a 4-2 win over Russia, capturing its third consecutive gold at the World Junior Ice Hockey Championship on Friday.

The United States took third place with a 2-1 win over Sweden. Erik Johnson scored the winning goal and assisted on another.

Jonathan Toews had a goal and an assist for Canada, which went up 4-0 in the second period and then held off a Russian rally behind several spectacular saves from goalie Carey Price.

Andrew Cogliano, Bryan Little and Toews all scored in a span starting at 15:35 of the first period, with power-play goals by Little and Toews.

Brad Marchand gave Canada a 4-0 lead six minutes into the second period, but Pavel Valentenko and Gennadi Churilov scored power-play goals for Russia to cut Canada's lead in half heading into the third.

It was the third year in a row that Canada defeated Russia in the final.

In the U.S. win, Johnson beat goalie Joel Gistedt with a wrist shot at 12:34 into the second period, scoring his fourth goal of the tournament.

Seconds before the end of the first period, a shot by Johnson rebounded to Pat Kane, who scored from a tough angle to give the U.S. a 1-0 lead. It was Kane's team-high fifth goal of the tournament.

Sweden's Patrik Zackrisson tied the score on a quick wrist shot from close range 9 minutes into the second period.

Sweden had a two-man advantage for more than a minute in the final period, but rarely threatened American goalie Jeff Frazee.

Almost as big a joke as the NBA.

I think Jonathon Toews could be another Steve Yzerman, recently retired captain for the Detroit Red Wings. Also, like the kid Russell, he needs to improve his one on one defense but, he is an impact type player. Great job kids! We're proud of you here in Canada.

I thought it was lame that they used a shootout in the semifinal against the U.S. Yeah it was nice Canada won, but it was a lousy way to win such an important game.

I agree also, in that game the better team was the U.S.A. but, if it still came down to the championship game being U.S.A. vs Canada, I think our Canadian juniors would somehow find a way to win without a shootout. I can't explain why, but I just think it means more to us to win the game that we invented and developed. jmo

Beauty flag, dude. <img src="/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif" alt="" />

In case you missed it:

BOSTON (AP) - It was the breakout game the Toronto Maple Leafs had been waiting for from Alex Steen.

The sophomore forward, who scored only four goals and had only 10 points in the first half of the NHL season, broke loose for three goals and two assists during a 10-2 rout of the Boston Bruins on Thursday night.

A good old poundin'.

Yeah I read that. They have been playing pretty good lately. Hopefully no more long losing streaks! <img src="/images/graemlins/plthumbsdown.gif" alt="" />
