figured i'd make a topic strictly for the cavaliers and their playoff run, and also for anything else nba related, there are some really good first round matchups out west...
i honestly think the only series worth watching in the east is the cavs/wizards, and only because whenever these 2 seem to get together, you get all kinds of fireworks, it's pretty obvious that they don't like each other...
but out west, you have great matchups all-around, suns/spurs in the first round? dallas as the 7 seed?
here are my playoff predictions..
eastern conference
boston over atlanta in 4
cleveland over washington in 6
toronto over orlando in 7
detroit over philadelphia in 5
boston over cleveland in 5
detroit over toronto in 6
detroit over boston in 7
western conference
los angeles over denver in 6
utah over houston in 5
phoenix over san antonio in 7
new orleans over dallas in 7
los angeles over utah in 6
phoenix over new orleans in 5
phoenix over los angeles in 7
nba finals, phoenix over detroit in 6
i honestly think you can mix and match the west any way you want, you can draw names out of the hat and literally make an argument for someone to make a run... this should be an enjoyable playoff season...

and i know i've been on record many times saying i am not a fan of mike dantoni's run & not play defense style, but i think this year, things could be different, a well-rested shaq, not a ton of expectations on a national scale (due to espn salivating over the lakers as if they were the old magic/kareem lakers, they're not) so i think they really can do it this year, they were close last year
i wasn't huge on the shaq deal, but i think he could benefit them, just because you cannot play 4 7-game series at that pace, all the time, you have to be able to slow down, and if shaq has anything left, he's saved it for the playoffs
and to draw the spurs first, the most experienced playoff team in the league, i think is a good thing...
but the lakers and the suns hate each other, their fans hate each other, i think that will be an enjoyable western conference final should it get to that
but like i said, i think you can take anyone out of the west and make an argument for them...
i can't see anyone in the east outside of boston and detroit getting it done...
i love my cavs, i really do, but this season has been a total mess... but i think at the very worst, they can use these playoffs to build for what should be a much better '08-'09 season...
but hey, if they come out playing good defense and shooting the lights out, and i'm totally wrong, i have no problem with that

We need to box out better on the defensive boards. The way Washington relies so much on the outside jump shots, we NEED to limit Haywood's offensive boards and we will be ok.

Haywood basically was standing over him while LBJ was on the ground - Haywood had set an illegal screen and he was standing with his leg right near LBJ's boys... LBJ went to get up and they got tangled up and words started to flow... Big Z and Wallace quickly came in as did a few of the Wiz players including Jamison.... Jamison at least threw some choice words out there which may have been the reason he got a T. Both coaches were out there as well... VERY tense/exciting... but that's how we tied the game
And I think I ahve to say - West ended the half on a HUGE high note for him... hopefully that'll get him going. The two shots he had before that he looked totally off and uncomfortable.

Good point on West. The thing with Delonte is simple, he NEEDS to be confident and just rise up and shoot. When he hesitates or wait, his shots are always short. When he just gets it and fires in rhythm, they usually fall.

Well the problem is that AV has not been much better. As much as I like what AV brings, on the offensive end he has the basketball IQ of a 10 year old.
With that being said, this game is going to come down to us moving the ball better and making open looks.

i know jay, look, we know its going to come down to LB having a big 4th. It just sucks that we have to rely on that. Other than Z, our bigs have given us squat today.

Haha, so true. Someone on the radio mentioned that Mike Brown should fine Varejao for every dribble that he takes. I absolutely think he should do that. Look at Z - you see him occasionally do one or two dribbles to himself when he's posted, but that's it. Varejao needs to realize he has no moves.

Which is one reason why the Cavs brought in Ben Wallace. Everyone has been down on Wallce since he went to Chicago. But by bringing Wallace in, the Cavs have one thing they didnt have last year, an enforcer. He dont need to average 15 rebounds a game when they have Z, Andy, and Joe Smith. Lebron gets his rebounds too.Goodens inconsistant offense will be missed when his game is actually on, but Joe Smith gets open looks as does Wally to help make up for that.
Its going to be harder for Washington to try to beat the Cavs this year with physical force now that they have Smith and Wallace. Wallace is old but he can still muscle it up with Haywood.
Remember when Z got hurt in the playoffs a couple of years ago (cant remember if he took an elbow?), none of his teammates had his back. Lebron stepped up last year when Rasheed Wallce was stepping over Varajon after being knocked down.
Let Wallace and Joe Smith help out Andy with Washington being physical and it would make Lebrons job easier to beat them by himself like he did last year. The playoff run last year to the finals was done with neither Gooden nor Hughes actually stepping up and to win games. Everyone is being down on the Cavs in the national media because they were something like 12 and 11 after the trade and only won something like 5 of their last 11 games. But that was also done with injuries to Gibson (who was on fire before his injury, winning a 3 point championship, and last year in the playoffs), Andy Verajon, and Sasha. Also with the trade, and the players had to learn each others game and role on the team, thruout the injuries.
Dolente West will be an upgrade over Snow and Damon Jones, and Gibson is back and healthy at PG.
I feel the only downgrade on this years team is at SG with Devin Jones starting and Sasha being hurt.
Even with losing Hughes (who is a little undersized at SG, but gets steals), Gooden (who gets rebounds) the Cavs are playing much better team defense. Allowing a little over 90 points a game since the trade. In the front court and back court hey have been flying around blocking shots and getting steals for fast breaks. I have seen West and Wally blocking shots and Gibson getting the team points by getting long rebounds and breaking up passes with his hustle.
Lebron does have an ailing back but should be able to get his needed rest, since they are not playing any back to backs in this series
