Anyone check out "Carrier" on PBS? I have been watching it since last night since I saw the commercial for it. It's a straight forward look at military life aboard the USS Nimitz as it deploys around the world on it's cruise. I really like it and I think it is a must see for anyone considering the service.

It makes me miss being in the Navy. Wow, it's been 10 years,,gee getting old sux lol.
Anyways, if you have seen it what do you think? It has a real reality show effect and it's very interesting to see all the drama and things these guys and girls face on the big boat.

There is a web site to check out too: http://www.pbs.org/weta/carrier/

You know what really weird is that I just logged on with the one intent of making a thread about this show!
I started watching it last night too. Been looking forward to it for months. Such a great show! I have never been in the service but my dad spent many years on carriers like this one.
I am so addicted to it. I'm so stoked I'm not the only one watching!

Well you obviously have good taste

Just not in teams
Yeah it is very addicting. I was dragging ass this morning b/c I had to wake up real early and was up watching this show last night.
That racist kid was an annoying hilljack coward. I remember a girl when I was in that turned into a huge whore with the intention of getting kicked out like that. unreal.

I liked how that Marine pilot got his call sign "fungus" lol. I am going to call any new guy at work "fungus" for the first month lol

Fungus was classic. I was going to use that here and pretend I made it up too....
I'm learning so much... they make it look so much fun right now. lol Except that racist guy... I wanted to smack him.
I don't care how much it costs, I'm getting the DVDs.

Haven't seen it, but it can't be that good if they're doing it on a carrier... may as well film it on a pier if you're not going to actually film on a real ship.

Damn airdales.

lol, not even close BrownShoe.... you'd get a better sense of being at sea by standing on a 4x8 sheet of plywood placed over a small puddle.

Yeah I always try to watch these type of shows on PBS. They've got another about Marines over in Iraq that is really good too. Forget the name of it though. Also Frontline always has good stuff.... like Health Care in Foriegn Contries... Bipolar being diagnosed too often in children... Bush's War.... etc.. great channel and few commercials.

And that racist guy was a tool....

Don't be a hater, jealousy doesn't suit you.

USNavyDawg's ship, front and center...

PPE's ship, one of the floating rust pails in the background.

Arleigh Burke... I remember when she was commissioned. I tried to get to her when she was New Construction, I ended up in Bermuda instead, hehe.

After Bermuda though, I ended up on this:

LST-1197 USS Unstable County... errr.. Barnstable County

C'mon... everybody knows subs are the only REAL ships. Other vessels are just targets.

I thought the Captain was pretty laid back about the light in the water. I can't imagine what would have been said if cameras weren't on the ship. I think if he found out someone did it as a joke he would normally throw the sailor overboard himself.

Well, we never did see the XO talk to the one sailor who didn't turn in for muster I think a lot was edited for TV
I remember falling asleep on watch one time and after my Lt. ripped me a new one the XO tore off what was left

It actually happens often. That si pretty much how they are over the 1MC (PA system). It is normally a person that works night crew that does it. Why? My guess is that a night crew person is almost daily woken for one thing or another, and almost every drill is during his sleeping hours, anything admin in nature is only done during the day. The ship basically doesn't take into account night crew. I would never do such an act, but I can understand why it is done by people.

You know i had to chime in on this one. So far i think the series is great, however, it is carrier life. Never served onboard a carrier, DDGs/CGs were the way. I was pretty shocked to see all those restricted personnel at muster. Also the 1st class getting "Carrier Group SOY" and then throw his career away on a liberty incident.

Anyway, NavyDog...how is the transition to civilian life going?

So... how much do you wanna bet this Tonya girl is cheating on Redhead kid? That was my first thought... and the more I watch, it just keeps getting more and more sad.

Oh I know it does. It's just sad how naïve this poor little boy is. I keep hoping one of his friends just tells him the truth.

So are you saying red headed kids should run away from you?

The new Navy slogan should be what happens in the Navy stays in the Navy.
