I agree.

The street works both ways, In the NFL contracts are not guarenteed. So if the player is cut, no money. Ask McNair about that one.

A player that signs a backend loaded contract is not helping himself. Sure it makes for a nice sounding press clip, but few players actually realize the money.

Aahhhh...That is the point to the whole salary system and the CBA. It is a business and it is the owners who have to deal with it. I don't know of too many jobs were a union has X% of the business revenue as their cut.

Their is no guarntees except for Signing Bonuses, so players ask for HUGE sums of money. Owners then have to pay that amount but backload contracts to protect the franchise. Should a team continue to pay a player that doesn't perform to their expectations (S. Alexander)?

Being retired military there were several times that I signed my enlistment contracts and on more than one occasion things did not go according to what was planned. However, I sucked it up and pressed on.

Hopefully, the next time they look at the CBA both sides could sit down and get a more realistic plan togther. Maybe performance based, maybe a sliding scale, maybe more money that could be guarnteed. who knows.

Jeeze it's amazing all the stuff flying around regarding Kellen for seemingly no real reason. Yeah, he wants a new contract. But saying he isn't Ocho Winslow YET, which seems to say he will be is just an insult to the man. I don't know if I've seen anyone give as much to the Browns on and off the field as Winslow has the last couple of years. He plays with a bum knee, a bum shoulder and just goes out there and works. He never makes a scene if he's not getting the ball, he's seems more than willing to share the offensive attention. Correct me if I'm wrong, but what is it that Winslow's done that has been so bad? Nothing! He made one mistake in his career, the motorcycle. He'll never be what he could have been because of it, and I'm sure he beats himself up over it more than anyone. In my mind though he's still the best in the league. You let me pick one tight end in the league and I'm taking Kellen.

Bottom line I say we work something out with him. He's done everything we've asked why not reward him as long as it's reasonable and won't break the bank. From what I've seen Kellen just wants to play football and win, that's why he'll NEVER be Ocho Cinco.

Winslow sending Browns message?

Posted: Friday May 16, 2008 07:16AM ET

Kellen Winslow wouldn't be practicing anyway, but his absence from the Cleveland Browns' organized team activities this week is notable. Unlike minicamps, the three weeks of organized team activities (OTAs) are not mandatory. However, players usually report so they can take part in conditioning drills and team meetings or rehab injuries. Star tight end Winslow underwent offseason knee surgery. He also has made it clear he wants the Browns to rework his contract. Winslow, who missed most of his first two seasons in the league with injuries, has three years left on a contract the Browns restructured after he missed an entire year following a motorcycle accident.
