Report: Police probe Harrison in Philadelphia shooting

ESPN.com news services

Updated: May 2, 2008, 4:06 PM ET

Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Marvin Harrison is under investigation in his hometown of Philadelphia in a shooting that took place late Tuesday afternoon, a source close to the investigation told Anthony Gargano of Philadelphia's WIP Radio.

The shooting reportedly occurred outside a North Philadelphia bar owned by Harrison.

Harrison has yet to be arrested or charged with the crime.

The source said the alleged victim came into the bar, Playmakers, around 5 p.m. and engaged in an argument with Harrison, who was at the bar. The victim then left the bar, heading to his car, with Harrison following. Gunfire broke out, the victim was hit in the hand, and a young girl was slightly injured by flying glass from a car that apparently was hit by a bullet.

Police came to scene, but the victim did not identify a shooter. On Wednesday, according to the source, ballistic tests showed that the gun that had fired the shots was a custom-made Belgian weapon, and police determined that Harrison owned such a gun.

Police then went to a Philadelphia car wash owned by Harrison to question him about the gun. Harrison admitted owning such a weapon, but claimed it never left his suburban Philadelphia home.

However, the source said the gun was discovered in a bucket at the car wash, and tests showed that it had fired seven bullets that matched those found at the scene.

The source said police were contacted Friday by an attorney representing a second alleged victim in the shooting, and police are now waiting for that individual to come forward.

Calls from ESPN to reach Harrison, his agent and the Colts for comment had not been returned.

I thought Harrison would be the last guy in the world to have this happen.

Neither did the guy that got shot in the hand.

I have no problem defending my home, my family or myself with a gun. I own a S&W .44 magnum and a 9mm Beretta for just such a purpose as well as target shooting. But you go after a guy with a gun because of an argument, you can pretty much guarantee it's not going to end well.

WOW!

Harrison? There must be a mix up. I would have never thought in a million years he would be involved in such a thing.

Just because he doesn't talk a lot in the media doesn't mean he is a great saint....i've seen worse articles on Pac Man jones with less evidence pointing to him....this one seems filled with details and everything points to harrison....then again he hasn't been arrested yet..so i am just keeping my mind open to a possiblity it's not him..

Has nothing to do with him talking to the media.

He's been in the league for what 9 years? Have you ever once, one single time heard anything bad about him? That's why it's shocking.

Yeah me either. It's usually the "repeat offenders" you expect things like this from. I always thought that Harrison was the golden boy out of all the receivers in the league.

Who knows. I'm definately interested to hear more about this story as it un-folds.

Dawgs:

Because I care deeply about each and every one of you, a gentle piece of advice...

Stay out of public vice locations.

Bars
Casinos
Strip clubs
After-hours joints.

Mind you- this is no Bible-thumping, moralistic rant... it's just plain old common sense.

Ignorant fools under the influence (of whatever) will do some crazyass, unpredictable things... and the sensible folk near them don't have enough control over the situation to sufficiently ensure their own safety.

Do like I do... stay (tf) at home, and getcho' party on!!! It's easy, and involves only 3 simple steps:

1. Drink all you want. Snort, smoke, toke, poke and choke all you want. Even do it to excess, if you want. You're an American -in the privacy of your own home.
2. Log on to Dawgtalkers dot comm (or your second-favorite chatboard), and interact with other drunks like you... bond, debate, have yourself a blast.
3. Crawl slowly upstairs to bed at some ungodly hour.

The outside risks- negligible. The benefits:

No arguments (except with maybe your spouse).
No gunplay (except from maybe your spouse).
No communicable diseases (except from maybe your spouse).
No DWI arrests.
No expensive lawyer fees.
No experiences with the local police or vice squad
No embarassing explanations to your boss, co-workers, or fellow parishoners.
No first-hand experience with "Central Booking."

Like your grandmother used to say: "Nothin' good ever happens after midnight."
(...unless, of course, you work fast- and get home before your orange & brown '74 AMC Pacer turns back into a pumpkin...)

...just trying to share the wealth, Dawgs (and all you randy Dawgettes...)
