The top 5 most hated sports franchises in the country...this includes every sport and league...I heard them talkin about this on 1460 the fan while driving home today. So i looked it up... http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/si_blogs/scorecard/daily_list/1. Any Major Team From Boston: The Red Sox, Celts and Patriots currently occupy that number one slot. Not so much because they all have more money than the treasury and have basically managed to assemble All-Star teams, but because they all win, all the time, and their fans love nothing more than to make sure everyone else knows about this. And nobody loves a winner who rubs it in. 2. New York Yankees: Run by a family of husky men with bad haircuts, the Yanks win and win and win and then remain competitive by throwing money at their issues. 3. Los Angeles Lakers: Lakers fans seem to have some sort of "us against them" mentality, and believe that if people aren't Lakers fans, they must hate anything and everything to do with the Lakers and/or Kobe Bryant. They may be correct. 4. THE Ohio State University: Buckeye fans have had the legs for their argument for dominance knocked out from under them lately, what with the way they keep losing in championship games. But you'd never know State can't win the big one by listening to them Buckeyes. (By the way, we get it: You're THE Ohio State University. Nice sweater vests.) 5. Chelsea: After a few years of mediocrity, the Blues were purchased by a billionaire, bought every great player in Europe, installed a coach who called himself "the special one" and spent a few years dominating everyone. The Special One is gone, but that sense of entitlement from their fans remains. Which team do you most love to hate? Let us know below... LOL  i love it mang! THEY LOVE TO HATE US! wooo That is some list to be on. Do you guys think the bucks are hated that much? this is sort of news to me...but at the same time doesn't surprise me seeing how we have been in the national spotlight so much lately. Okay in all honesty if it's at all possible..the non-osu fans on this board can you please tell us why you hate osu?(if you do). Try not to say because the OSU fans on this board think they own this board etc...please look past us and if u know any OSU fans in person use them or the team itself to tell us why you hate them.

it's hard to be much more specific than that, since it's true...ok, well, i'll try...
it's not that every fan is more arrogant, etc. than other teams' fans, it's that the number of arrogant ones far outnumber the reasonable ones, whereas it's probably more 50-50 with most schools...
and this is true for not just OSU, but many teams with college football tradition and no other game in town, as it were...Nebraska, Alabama, Clemson, etc...the difference between us and those other teams right now is the jealousy thing that someone mentioned...among the schools with the higher proportion of obnoxious fans, we are at--err, near--the top of the college football world...
Browns fans are born with it...

One thing I have noticed is a lot of people throw on an OSU hat/shirt and they think it gives them a free pass to fight or damage things. You ask them about the team and they know squat. For every 2 guys like that I know 10 that aren't, but the 2 guys take the face of the fan base at times. I few guys at work hate us b/c were always "lucky" and they are sick of seeing the Buckeyes on TV. They hate us b/c they wanna be us  That and we go "O-H!"

I agree Lee, that is a curse to being a big dog. You are going to get the bandwagon idiots. These fans were nowhere to be seen during the Coop years, and some of these fans have disapeared when we lost a couple title games. These people do not represent the true die hard OSU fans.

At the moment, I think most of the people that oppose OSU are just tired of these types of conversations. That has nothing to do with how jealous anyone is of OSU but rather how tired they get of trying to have a conversation with monkeys at the zoo. The first thing anyone says (that may be perceived as anti-OSU) and everyone starts throwing poop.
I don't really have a problem with OSU, they have a great sports program and a good university but I do get incredibly annoyed by a majority of their fan base. For whatever reason, tunnel vision seems to be a common trait whenever you're talking sports. The moment you get off track and stop talking about how great "THE" Ohio Stat University is, the less and less productive the conversation starts to be (exponentially so with each comment). Even mention an OSU loss and it's scum this, michigan sucks, "X" team sucks, what bowl were you in this year?, you suck, this is "our board". It seems as though there's a trigger in their brains, much like a shark when it sees a big fat seal. It might not be hungry but it's too stupid to not eat the thing.
There are some OSU fans I get along with fine but they have always been in a very small minority. I've sat at tables with Steelers fans and they seem like model citizens when compared to Buckeye followers. Just as an example, a moron at the columbus airport made me go through the extended security check (where they unpack your bag) the last time I was there. When I asked him why, the idiot told me "don't wear that hat next time," referring to the Michigan baseball hat I had on.  So while he should be looking out for terrorists, he's more concerned with me wearing a freakin baseball cap? I'm sure a majority of you laugh at that, which is my point.
Most of the hatred (I mean jealously  ) stems from the whole "The" Ohio State University thing. Honestly, until that started......who gave a crap about OSU? Do you suddenly become one of the most hated teams/schools out of nowhere? When no one has really had that much of a problem with you in the past? I've had girl friends who don't really follow sports say, "why do they say "THE" like that?" I tell them I don't really know and their response is always, "that's stupid." So blame it on jealously or whatever else you want to but people dislike OSU because a majority of their fans are so incredibly annoying and obnoxious. You can say it's because you win, or whatever else you think might support your argument but don't you find it a bit odd that Michigan has been beating up on all these Big 10 teams just as much as OSU has but the fans of other schools don't hate Michigan fans?

I agree with most of what you said NAS but all of that could have been said about Michigan fans when they were on top too. It runs in cycles and for the past 7-8 years or whatever OSU has been on top so their fans have been cocky and it is easy to hate the team up top. You dont think the same things were said about Michigan and their fans during the last cycle when Michian was on top of the conference? I used to get hassled by Michigan fans all the time when I would go up to Michigan Speedway, and that was when Michigan was beating us every year. I had a guy in a M hat throw a beer can through the open window of my truck just because he saw the OSU sticker on my bumper, of course he ran over to where his 5 buddys were when I got out of the truck and then ran his mouth like he was tough as I left. There are always idiots. Of course you live in C bus right? So obviously you are going to catch it a bit more, I am sure if I lived in Ann Arbor I would catch some heat too.

I'm not discussing the OSU/Michigan thing......I think we realize tensions will always be high between the two schols. I was more or less discussing why I thought OSU popped up on this list.
In general (from my experience), opposing fans just seem to dislike OSU's following. I guess I didn't really realize how much other people disliked OSU fans (Illinois, Indiana, NW, Iowa, etc) until I pushed further in to the midwest for a job (I now live in Chicago, IL). One of my bosses is a Univerity of Illinois Chicago grad (from Louisville, KY) and he asked me if I was an OSU fan during my job interview??? I said no and he told me "good, because OSU fans are some of the most obnoxious people I have ever met." UIC via KY? and he has that impression? He also asked me about the whole "THE" thing as well and was trying to figure out how and why it started.
Growing up in Ohio, I didn't quite view OSU as one of the "most hated schools" but after being away from the state for a year, I'd say it's pretty apparent. Whenever I meet someone in Chicago, 6-7 times out of 10 they ask me "you're not an OSU fan are you?" when I tell them I grew up in Ohio.....and it's never in a positive tone. I know it's not everyone (that's an idiot) but at the moment, there seems to be a rather negative view of the fan base as a whole.

The point I would make is go back 12 years when we were in the middle of the dark years of Knute Cooper. Did anybody have much of a opinion on OSU fans? Except for maybe Michigan fans, where those feeling went both ways like a rivalry does. OSU fans are no different than any other fans, we have just had a lot of success recently so it is easy to hate us.

The official school name is The Ohio State University. In Michigan there are 2 top schools in sports, The University of Michigan and Michigan State. When you think of Ohio you think of one, THE Ohio State University. Well there is also Ohio University and I was told it has something to do with that. OU students hate Ohio State for some reason b/c they are older blah blah. I really don't know but thats just what I was told. I do understand the Michigan fans persepctives on here but you do have to realize that this MB is hosted in Cleveland Ohio and your going to get outnumbered 20-1. This is NOT "our board" and it bothers me sometimes to read some people bashing a Browns fan for the college team they root for, but it's going to happen. I am sure similar things happen on a Detroit Lions MB for people that say live in Toledo. I also agree, like I stated above, rooting for Ohio State became a popular thing to do in OH after 2002 b/c they were the first Ohio team to win a championship since maybe the Reds did it. I see more Ohio State crap now more than ever. I am not any better than them b/c I have been a fan through the rough times but do see why people hate on us. Plus every time it seems we beat Michigan Columbus burns. Then there are the Michigan people that see this and say how they are smarter than Ohio State fans and Nas yourself displayed this saying something like "monkeys throwing poo". It's a rivalry unlike anything outside of maybe NY/Boston with a lot of emotion on both sides. In Ohio your taught since early childhood that you never root for that team up north. You live in OHIO and theres only one school that matter, THE Ohio State University. Thats what was told to me and even my daughter at age 3 knows this now But I love the Buckeyes and not hating Michigan. Except for that Saturday in the fall when the 2 teams square off,,usually for the Big-10 title and more.

You know why nobody cared? because we weren't in the national title game year in and year out....people hate teams that consistantly do great...what else does OSU have in common with the other 5 teams on that list? THey alll win and win a lot...so when your team doesnt you hate them....have you ever found yourself rooting for New England or the Yanks? i thought not...

People don't understand why they say "The Ohio State University"? Explain to them that that's the name of the school. If your name was Dr. Smith and everyone kept introducing you as "Mr. Smith" you'd be correcting them as well.

So are you saying Michigan has been saying their name wrong this entire time? Michigan was founded 50+ years before OSU and they don't say "THE" University of Michigan.

Generally people usually just say "Michigan", just like some people simply say "Ohio State". But when they do say the full name they say "The University of Michigan".

I don't hate OSU, but I DO notice some of the OSU students have a bug up their asses about how great their school is, and they're relentless in telling us how great it is to have big time sports at their school while we have the MAC.
The funniest part? The worst guy went to COLUMBUS STATE COMMUNITY COLLEGE, but claimed OSU as his own because he lived on the OSU campus.
I always appreciate it when my friends who come to visit from OSU always say "We have so much more fun down here, we love coming down." At least they're humble about it, some of my friends love to rub in the fact that they go to OSU like everyone wants to go there...I didn't even bother to apply there!

LOL thats pretty funny if he went to CS lol...well i kno kids that went to schools around columbus like otterbein or even as far as OU that still calim to be die hard OSU fans because they grew up in columbus....which is not that far out i guess...because it really is a cult in columbus..doesn't matter where u go if i live here u grow up loving the bucks..

I've had people tell me I'm not a true Ohio State fan because I never went there... I think it's crap personally... I got accepted there twice (undergrad and grad) but was called to go other places... so I never attended OSU but the Buckeyes will always be my own... in terms of the "The Ohio State University"... I think someone above put it perfectly... you either say "Ohio State" or use the word The when saying the whole thing... just sounds better... not really a big deal

I totally agree Jay. To be honest, a good majority of my friends who are the most "true" buckeye fans i know, never went to osu. Even though I am an OSU grad, I think having gone their doesn't mean a lick as to who cares more, or who is a better fan, etc. Same goes for Michigan.
Generally if you are born and bred and in Ohio by parents that are from Ohio, that means you were raised on buckeye tradition, period.

Hell i was a huge buckeye fan when i was in High school ya kno? it doesn't make sense for me to jump ship jus cuz i end up goin to a diff college for education..I went to OSU tho...but i can see why NON-OSU goers can be fans..

Exactly. I'm an Ohio State fan, yet I'm not a "real" one because I don't go there? Give me a break. I'm a fan of the sports teams, not the school.
Why would I want to go to a 50,000 person school in the heart of a city where you're a couple blocks away from the ghetto, when I can go to a school of 20,000, yet still see familiar faces everywhere, and I don't have to worry about rampant crime?
But hearing "I don't understand because I don't go there" is absolute horse manure.

It all boils down to a few factors for me...
1. I will be graduating in the spring and love OSU, but we have some of the worst fans I have ever seen. Following the Northwestern game in 2004, everyone jumped off the bandwagon (and then quickly got right back on after we beat Michigan in 04). Look at the student section for basketball, if you want to determine how loyal our fans are.
2. THE Ohio State University. It is annoying, but it reveals the high level of pride people have for OSU. This pride initially starts in athletic success, but quickly will translate to the University as a whole if you attend. I would much rather see Ohio State get national awards and move up in undergraduate/graduate rankings than play forthe national title every year.
3. As the flagship institution of public higher education in Ohio, this will inherently draw interest and pride for the state of Ohio. Ohio State is an excellent University. There are certain opportunities that only a school of 50,000 people can offer. During my time at OSU I've had the opportunity to see John Kerry, Al Gore, Bruce Springsteen, Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, John McCain, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, Bill Cosby, and the list goes on...
4. The level of passion from people at the University is ridiculous. I know people who have gone to OU, Miami, Cincy, Akron, BG and all of other public Ohio schools and they don't share that same enthusiasm for their university (or at least they are not as vocal about it). It may all be sports derived,but I like to think it is out of some interest for the University as a whole

Exactly. I'm an Ohio State fan, yet I'm not a "real" one because I don't go there? Give me a break. I'm a fan of the sports teams, not the school.
Why would I want to go to a 50,000 person school in the heart of a city where you're a couple blocks away from the ghetto, when I can go to a school of 20,000, yet still see familiar faces everywhere, and I don't have to worry about rampant crime?
But hearing "I don't understand because I don't go there" is absolute horse manure.
hehe me too. A buddy of mine who graduated OSU said he hates how kids from OU, Miami, Kent, etc are Buckeye fans when they never went there. He then looked at my car which has an OSU sticker across the top and a license plate holder and asked me where I went to school? I went to Ohio State for 1 class as a transfer student from Akron for a research class b/w a bunch of schools in Ohio. I got accepted there after HS but chose a different path. When it was time to go to school I had some money from the govt. but I couldn't afford the tuition. Still can't but would love to graduate from there in the future maybe.

I dont see what part you are not understanding NAS. You are in the Big Ten country. For the past 7-8years or so Ohio State has pretty much dominated the conference. When you are at the top of the pile it is easy for people to hate you, ecpecially Northwestern or Illini fans. How thrilled have teams in the conference been when they have manged to beat us?? WHy? Because they knocked off the best team in the conference and one of the best in the nation. The populatiom that makes up TOSU fans is n differnet than the population that makes up the fanbase of any other team.

You are correct, I was embarassed not at the team but at the fans. Our basketball games are bad because our student section is not real close to the action. Unlike St. John arena.
