Okay, I'll play. I have a couple friends here and we've talked about it before so I'll give my list of what I think are general reasons, then a couple of my own...
1. They could rank OSU preseason #1 in 5 sports every year and the fans would still whine about being disrespected any time somebody is the least bit critical. Enough already.
2. "THEE Ohio State University", yes I understand that is the name of the school but the need to emphasize it to the point you call it tOSU is ridiculous. It ranks right up there with "the 'U'" in terms of annoyance.
3. Success. I won't call it jealousy but people grow tired of hearing about the teams at the top when they have been there a while and if you don't love them, you hear about them SOOO much that you start to hate them.. it's a natural reaction. So yes, it's true, if OSU hit a dry spell, people's opinion of them would calm down. I personally am tired of hearing about the SEC but it's harder to hate a collective than it is a single entity. Also human nature.
4. and this is one of my own. The Browns should not go out of their way to load up on OSU players. Fortunately this has calmed down lately but during the AJ Hawk draft it was especially obnoxious. Some had mocks with us taking 4 and 5 OSU players. Please.

Very well said DC, I think you hit the nail on the head with all 4 but I think they all relate to #3 in some way or another. I wouldnt call it jealousy either, just the same as a lot of people have developed a disdain for the Patriots just because you get sick of hearing about them, so then people bash the Pats and Pats fans get defensive. This is all the same for any teams in any sports. Ohio STate fans are no different than any other fans, they have just been the ones that have consistently been at the top of the heap for a little time now. That wont be changing anytime soon (J/K) KING

You totally nailed it on #3. It's the reason I can't stand anything from Detroit. When I went to Bowling Green for 2 years, all I ever heard about was how awesome Detroit was. (early 90's). Pistons, Tigers, Lions...yadda, yadda. And they weren't all great, they were just all that Toledo news talked about then. Very rarely did they talk Cleveland sports.
And the UM coverage....fuhgeddaboutit! OUTRAGEOUS! And I wasn't that into OSU then.

Yes, 1 and 2 both revolve around #3... if the media isn't talking about you all the time, then I don't know whether your whining or not and I don't know what you are calling your school...

I personally love that we made this list....i'm not bitchin' about it at all..
It's like chris spielman said on the show...it's a recruiting tool and it's a way to motivate the team to play better every game.....
it's what belichick did this year with the pats... "us against the world" it's now or never sort of thing
