Hey, I have been looking all over and cant seem to find The Strenght of Schedules for this year. Ive heard all over that Florida was #1 but cant find anything on it. Anyone have this list?

Also, do they use SOS in the BCS standings anymore?

Yes, thank you.

When did S.O.S. get thrown out of the formula?

I know this year they released how the coaches voted in the coaches poll. I remember seeing the final poll, but did they release that each week how they voted?

it didnt. It is still part of the computer ranking that determine BCS ranking. If you were assuming they had been because Florida was #2 to the Bucks #1 it is because won loss record is the bigggest factor in the computers computation(is computers computation redundant?).

I was not assuming that, this has nothing to do with Ohio State.

The BCS's computer. The BCS's part of the formula is based on their computer program wich adds up SOS,W-L and several other factors. the rest of the formula is based on two polls, one is coaches poll, and I forget the other now that AP is gone. Is it Harris poll??

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harris_Interactive

From each week in September to the end of the regular college football season these 114 panelists vote on the particular ranking of teams. These rankings are then published and are used to determine 1/3 of the BCS standings.

Yeah, im not so sure thats correct.

Its 1/3 Coaches, 1/3 Harris and 1/3 Computer rankings, and the computer rankings are a combination of computer polls, no SOS though. Its the Saguran, Seattle Time, Colley(sp?) and 3 others.

The whole formula is the BCS computer ranking( which are comprised of 6 different computer ranking) which gets 1/3 as you stated and the harris and coaches poll getting 1/3 as you stated. The computer polls rate in SOS but no longer rate in margin of victory. SOS is what allowed Flrida to catch up to Michiagn( in computer ranking) but it was votes by poolsters that moved them ahead.

I have pasted a little info from the website for one of the computer rankings

Jeff Sagarin NCAA football ratings

• Sagarin ratings index

All Contents Copyright © 2006 Jeff Sagarintm. All rights reserved.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL through results of DECEMBER 16 SATURDAY
RATING and PREDICTOR are now unbiased and the ELO-CHESS is also UNBIASED now.

this output has one part: (1) teams listed by RATING top-to-bottom

The SCHEDULE ratings represent the average schedule difficulty faced
by each team in the games that it's played so far. The schedule
difficulty of a given game takes into account the rating of the
opponent and the location of the game.

In COLLEGE FOOTBALL the W-L records include ALL games, but ONLY
games between the 241 TEAMS RATED here are used for RATING and SCHEDULE
STRENGTH computations.

To make predictions for upcoming games, simply compare the RATINGS of
the teams in question and allow an ADDITIONAL 3 points for the home
team. Thus, for example, a HOME team with a rating of 92 would be
favored by 5 points over a VISITING team having a rating of 90.
Or a VISITING team with a rating of 89 would be favored by 7 points
over a HOME team having a rating of 79.

NOTE: Use whatever home advantage is listed in the output below.
In the example just above, a home edge of 3 was shown for
illustrative purposes. The home edge will vary during the season.

The numbers to the right of a team's schedule strength
are its rank of schedule - (in parentheses) - and its
record versus teams in these rating's CURRENT top 10
and top 30 respectively.

Is there one strength of schedule that is used, or do each of these computer rankings have a strength of schedule?

Do you have a link to those SOS ranking?

I apologize for all of these question, but i got into a debate with a friend and would like some of this info to show him.

You are losing me here. The SOS would be the same for all the computer rankings. Are you saying do all the computer ranking take SOS into account? I didnt look at all of them but the ones I did did and I am pretty sure they all do.

The SOS ranking my friend found were different for some of those computer rankings than the ones "iambrown" posted.

So I think that each computer ranking (sagurin (sp?), colley, seattle times) might use their own formula to calculate SOS.

And the SOS that iam posted from the NCAA website sint really a true measure becasue it doesnt take into account 1-AA teams (that Florida played) or USC's win over ND.

I guess Im just trying to find the formula for SOS that is used to determine any rankings that have an impact on the BCS rankings.

You are correct on the Div 1 aa teams not counting because SOS is not only formulated by the team you beat but also the teams they beat. I am not sure on the USC beating Notre Dame. Why wouldnt that count on SOS??

To tell you the truth I have no clue, are debate has now stretched into many other things and we are no longer arguing about that.

In fact, this debate has gotten so out of hand I am defending the Buckeyes. Thanks for your help but I think im going to drop it.

Sorry for the confusion. <img src="/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif" alt="" />

The bottom line is that Florida had a stronger SOS then Ohio State, and Boise State had a weak SOS and that's why they didn't make it to the BCS title game.

This has nothing to do with that.
