After the way the Buckeyes played last night I thought they'd be behind both LSU and USC.
Shock and awe, man. I still can't figure out what they thought they were doing last night.

Congrats to Boise State, Louisville and Rutgers. Three programs that are very impressive. Nice to see the small universities up there with the big football factory schools.
Also, salutations go out to Big East teams which I believe won 4 bowl games according to Joe Petrino, HC, Louisville.

Michigan lost it's last 2 games, Wisconsin beat the runner-up in the SEC... I think it's fair.... I'm really surprised that LSU didn't jump over OSU... possibly even USC... but I thought for sure LSU would be #2....

BSU fans are probably excited to be in the top 5! My Dad was talking about how everyone was hoping they could crack into that spot, but he didn't think the sports writers would give them a chance. The did manage to secure one first place vote in the media poll though!
I should of made a side bet with him ... I said, I'm sure there's at least one "we need a playoff system" homer out there in the press that would give BSU a first place vote.
I agree with you though DC ... LSU should be number 2.

I'm really surprised that LSU didn't jump over OSU... possibly even USC... but I thought for sure LSU would be #2.... If they had beaten a better team in their bowl game they probably would have. I dont even remotely see USC having any consideration of jumping them though with 2 losses to 2 unranked opponents.

What college team are you fan of anyways Excel? Or are you just the appointed [censored] stirrer?? Idaho is the college I went to, so that's my "real" team. I was an OSU fan long before I went there, and I'm still a OSU fan to this day. All though if Idaho were to somehow pull a BSU (Who is Idaho's rival by the way), work it's way up to the top of the rankings and play Ohio State ... that's probably the only time I'd pull for a team over Ohio State. And yes, I'm also the resident [censored] stirring Nostradamus.

Boise State is where they should be. They won and congradulations to them, but they won on trick playes, which is a one trick pony.
ND is where they belong for a team that gets blown out.
Ohio State shouldn't be #2. They were blown out and they should drop 6-8 spots.

Ohio State shouldn't be #2. They were blown out and they should drop 6-8 spots. No way that silly to even say. Dropping that far would put them below Michigan who they beat and who also got blown out in their bowl game. USC has two losses . I could see a argument for LSU to be over us and even Boise State over LSU but that is as far as I could see it. KING

I agree, sort of... anybody who watched the Boise State game saw them push Oklahoma around most of the game and almost blow it...... They didn't NEED the trick plays to be leading in the 4th quarter..... SOS does matter to an extent, it has to... or teams will start loading up on cream puffs and college football will look like December college basketball...

Boise State outplayed Oklahoma in the first half. No doubt about it. But Oklahoma came back on Boise State and outplayed them for most of the 2nd half. And Boise State wins in OT by one point after three trick plays -- the lateral to get into overtime; and the two OT plays. Nine out of ten times a team in Boise State's position with a minute to go loses that game. And I think there was a hefty dose of luck for them at the end of the game. But after they win in this manner they jump up 7 spots to #5? The character of the win or loss is revelevant. Boise State snuck by. They did not dominate like LSU or Florida, and came very close to blowing a 20 point lead.

Nine out of ten times a team in Boise State's position with a minute to go loses that game. And I think there was a hefty dose of luck for them at the end of the game. You are right, 90% of the time the team down by 7 would lose... where we disagree on the amount of luck involved.. Were there batted balls that came down in the right spot? Defenders falling down? Hail Marys? Bad penalty calls? Nope, none of that. Each play, while not a "conventional play" was drawn up and executed exactly as it was designed. How does that make it luck? Sounds like good planning to have them in the playbook, brilliance to call them at just the right time, and skill for the players to pull off each one without a hitch.... Could they do it again? Probably not, but that's not the test, they did it when they had to. But after they win in this manner they jump up 7 spots to #5? The reason they were ranked so low, as an undefeated team, to being with was because they hadn't beaten a "national team".. well they did, so that jump was for that game as well a bit of make-up for being so low in the first place. The character of the win or loss is revelevant. Boise State snuck by. Was the character of OSU's win relevant against Miami? They won on a pass interference call which is still debated to this day... I don't see too many people saying they "snuck by"... They did not dominate like LSU or Florida, and came very close to blowing a 20 point lead. You wouldn't expect a game between two similarly ranked teams to be a domination the way either of those two were... and they had a 20 point lead... without trick plays they had a 20 point lead.... that, to me, is far more important than the play that won the game in the end.

iam............Can't look at it that way. Auburn beat Florida bur are ranked below them. Oregon St. and UCLA beat USC and aren't even ranked in the top 20.
I am glad to see Boise St. ranked in the top 5. Congrats to them. I bet my friend boisebanger, who used to post on the board, is thrilled. I miss the guy even though we used to fight like cats and dawgs.
I think the only team that got slighted is Louiville. They had a great season w/one misstep. Probably shouldn't have lost that game either.

They didnt?? you have selective memory. Many tried to diminish our national championship that year by saying we snuck by or got lucky. Hell I heard that team called the " Luckeyes" many times. Doesnt bother me a bit though. We were a bit lucky to certain extent. It ws just a special year where things fell our way. I will cherish that year as my first(and only to this point) championship of any of my major teams. KING

At least the Bucks actuallly DID something to be ranked high. At leat we have won a bowl game in the past decade. ND is overrated year in and year out. this year was no different.

And I feel like you do King, it doesn't matter how OSU won those games that year, they won them... they won them all... and they deserve the NC they got for it... My point was not to diminish what the Buckeyes did, but rather to equate what Boise State did this year, especially against Oklahoma since BFFL said the "character of their win is relevant" because it was "lucky"......
