Same , different year weakest depth position gets busted Good thing it´s still early but I hope Phil brings in 1 or 2 vet-DBs....Cousin comes to mind I´d be even willing to burn next years 2nd rounder (heck, even 1st rounder) for Lito Sheppard now...seriously...2 2nd year players starters? not even a nickel back on the roster? remember when we tried that with a unit the last time under Butcher with the LBs?

Well we got 4 undrafted fa's in camp this year so hopefully if we decide not to sign anyone (which is highly doubtful) one of these other guy's steps up and Savage has once again worked his magic. I think Darnell Terrelle has a good chance of sticking with the team now.

Ralph Brown aka Toast, is the worst player I have ever seen suit up as a Browns player. I really mean that. THE WORST!! Including our O-line in 1999...

I knew about this at 6:30pm last night and PM'd a couple of posters the info. Unfortunately we can't post this type of info until we have a link. Sure hope we bring someone else in or McDonald steps up big time. Either way, we'll need more depth.

Hopefully this will not be like a staph infection...Injuries.
We know they always happen - its part of the game. But we cannot afford to let them him in certain areas. The Staph infection reference is that supposedly an infection will strike at the weakest areas of the body. Well the Brown's body has just been hit in its two weakest areas. Tucker for our OT depth and now Holly for our CB nickel.
We needed a strong 3 of which most definitely young but I think all 3 NFL capable - EW, McD and Holly. Now we got to shift Perry to the #3 Nickel spot - Perry who did not hook up with a team and he was in a heated battle with Holly of which Holly won out a year ago and Perry cut. This is not who we want as our Nickel...team will open up and get us to our 4th n 5th corners.
options...or scenarios at hand. Vets out there really don't look good. Adams might not be bad in Nickel/Dime packages. Baxter does the miracle and he can be in there for the Nickel/Dime packages. Davis a Lions 4th round pick who was on our Practice Squad all last year as a rookie - turns out to be a good young find???
Trades...can be costly when you are desperate. Best bet...look to teams with CB strengths and wait for their cuts the last week of training camp and bring them in!
JMHO - and sorry to hear about this.

While unfortunate, we don't know the extent of the injury and the seriousness. It doesn't necessarily look good right now, but maybe we should wait until we get an official confirmation.

Aside from McDonald and Wright, our Corner situation is atrocious. Alright Phil, time to go get us a decent corner.
By the way I don't consider Perry decent. In fact I would bet he doesn't even make the squad. I wonder how Baxter's agility and quickness is as of today. Maybe he could be our 4th corner. We just need to find a decent 3rd corner if Holly is truly injured.

Cant tell u much, just know what most of us can deduct from his career path. He is experienced, started and spot-started....so I think he´s still capable of playing nickel or dime....I´m sure some of the guys listed by eo can play the nickel too....but what concerns me ist depth and who replaces Wright or McDonald when 1 of them misses game....who? Perry? Davis? an UDFA? that´s a scary thought for me.....I just think that with a vet like Cousin at least he wont get burned for big plays, he most likely would be a liability if forced to start but I think it´s a lower risk than throwing a guy in there who has never played meaningful or any downs in the league
without Holly that is our CB-depth chart atm:
1 Wright 2 McDonald
3-10
Perry (pure ST) Davis (4th round pick and cut by the CB-needy Lions, speedster who underachieved in College) James (UDFA with good rookie minicamp, not very athletic but has instincts) D. Terrell (UDFA, raw speedster who underachieved in College and needs time) D. Jenkins (UDFA, PS contestant at best) G.Lawson (UDFA, brought in as ST longshot, not much of a CB)
that said..with the number 3 CB getting over 50% of the defensive snaps nowadays I dont want/like any of those listed above to play that much next season BY DEFAULT, I also dont like that McDonald gets handed the number 2 job just like that...if injuries force your hand...ok....but we need somebody more reliable, where we know what we get from...thats why I pimp the only viable CB left on the market --> Cousin
but I really hope Savage is trying to work a deal with Philly to get Sheppard....I would give them our 1st in a heartbeat...why? Savage already said we would look at CBs next year...so why not make Lito your 2008 number 1 pick? He just turned 27 and we would be set at CB for years with him, Wright and McDonald as nickel/spot-starter...I really think this is the way to go, esp. when reading that our D-scheme wont change and Crennel likes to rush 4 drop 7....we have improved up front but if Holly has "a knee" and misses time we are way too young and inexperienced in the backfield
so...
plan A: trade for Sheppard plan B: sign Cousin and pray plan C: sign someone elses garbage number 6 or 7 CB and let him play number 3 on your team...and pray plan D: let the youngsters learn and pray
look at the scenarios above....we are not in a position to stop gap or develop and hope for the best anymore...we want to win, right? If we are serious about it, we go get Sheppard...he´s a 27yo ProBowl-CB, I´d much rather have that than a (mid)-1st round 23yo CB who has ProBowl-potential...but that´s just me

Right now there aren't a lot of options..lets hope the inury is minor..if not..we may have to wait until some vet is cut..

I think that the Eagles were looking to get a 2nd round draft pick for Sheppard…..No way we give up our 1st round pick in 09. It would be good I think for the team to bring in a Veteran CB to go with our three 2nd year players. Cousins is like 33 years old and was never very good anyways so I’m not so sure he would be able to help us here.

How up to date is this? http://www.nfl.com/freeagencyI'm thinking it's either outdated or there are quite a few unrestricted free agents Phil could be looking at. For now, here's hoping Holly's injury isn't too bad.

I posted an article near the middle of the free agency thread that discussed the possibility of KC cutting Ty Law. The article went on to mention that the Pats would be interested in signing him back but we should have an in with RAC.
And I wanted us to look into Law even before this injury. Like so many on this board have already said, the talent level of the CB was marginal and we had ZERO depth. One injury will easily create a major problem (which we may have right now).

This is a good site for information….It’s mostly a Drafnik site, but has a lot of information And a forum that has a sticky for subjects like signings and tenders, Rumors. ect….. (Walter) is a down to earth guy and if you e-mail him he will actually respond. In fact when looking at team needs prior to the draft…He was the only site that did not say our biggest need was a RB The link below will take you to FA CB’s Link

I say Phil needs to call up his good buddy down in Dallas and work a trade for Anthony Henry.
Jerry Jones has a bunch of new toys down there in his secondary, AHen is on his way out, or at least to the nickle or dime spot..... I say we try to bring him back home.
Him or Lito... either one is fine by me.

I know he left because of Botch, but I'm sure he is also capable of seeing that it is a different environment here these days.... hell, get Tucker, Dawson, Davis and whomever else is left over to talk to him and let him know how different things are now if he needs convincing.

Right now I'm wishing we had traded for Fabian Washington. I like the idea of possibly bringing back Henry. If we could get Lito Shepard for a decent price I'd be all for that.

Well, what if Holly's injury isn't all that serious? Right now we have some speculation, but that's about it.
I'm not saying he isn't going to miss time, I'm just saying that maybe we should wait for some confirmation.

I'm sure the powers that be know the extent of the situation and will act accordingly. I really hope it's not that bad, although I'm not entirely sold on Holly's abilities anyway. However, Phil seemed to think we were doing okay at the position before this incident, so I have to trust his judgment. Now, however, depending on the severity of the injury, I think we'll be forced to make a move for another guy.

So I wonder if this happened on Sunday? You know ... the same day Cliff Lee gave up 6 hits and the Tribe got swept ... and the Cavs were busy losing Game 7 to end their season?

Very true... 1. this could all be false... it's completely unconfirmed at this point 2. it only states "ligament damage"... it could be a simple sprain and not a tear. That said, I'm not gonna hold my breath waiting for good news on this one. Hey.... I wonder if the Lions would give us Bodden back for a 5th next year?

Pray pray pray that its a false report....
If Holly is down, that leaves Eric Wright as our most experienced corner...AS in, second year Eric Wright....
I'd be willing to lay odds that Phil Savage will be all over any and all corners that are cut through training camps.

I remember certain posts like this with Bentley, and we all know how that turned out.
I don't like this at all. In a sprain, there really isn't any "damage" to the ligament, so I hope this doesn't turn out to be worse than we're all hoping. If it truly is being reported that there is "ligament damage," then it's probably not looking good for us at all.
