Bengals | Robiskie possibly a candidate to replace Jackson
Tue, 9 Jan 2007 07:54:30 -0800

Mark Curnutte, of the Cincinnati Enquirer, reports former Cleveland Browns assistant coach Terry Robiskie is believed to be a candidate to become the Cincinnati Bengals receivers coach after Hue Jackson left the team to become the offensive coordinator for the Atlanta Falcons.

Steelers | Team possibly to hire from within
Tue, 9 Jan 2007 07:43:05 -0800

Ed Bouchette, of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, reports Pittsburgh Steelers assistant coach Russ Grimm and offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt appear to be the front-runners for the team's head coaching vacancy. The team could have a new head coach in place by the weekend.

[color:"orange"]Bengals...sensible - remember Robo wanted to be near his son in Columbus. Not great with Ohio geography but I think Cinnci is about the same distance as Cleve to Columbus??

Steelers...how many times is that going to be reported as a Newsbreaking. Not slamming you the messager just the News releases of the same ole same ole.

I would think the Steelers would be more likely to go with Grimm just because his image (tough guy)seems more like Cowher than does Wisenhunt. I think a bigger key to the Steelers is keeping Dick Lebeau as DC.

I also agree to a certain point with you on that CBFAN19, but, who knows maybe it might be Lebeau they promote instead of Grimm and Whisenhunt. I wanted Grimm as our head coach from day one and you could have bet the OL with him as HC would have been top priority. JMHO

Not sure how the topic of Assistant Coaches fits into the NFL Draft topic...but I will add this to your list of stories:

Broncos fire Coyer

By Bill Williamson
Denver Post Staff Writer
Article Last Updated: 01/09/2007 11:27:25 AM MST

Broncos defensive coordinator Larry Coyer has been fired.

Coyer met with Broncos head coach Mike Shanahan late Monday night and again early today, at which time he was told he was fired. Coyer just completed his seventh season on the Broncos' staff, and his fourth season as the team's coordinator. He was the team's linebackers coach from 2000-02.

The Broncos' defense faltered late this past season after a strong start. Denver started 7-2 and finished 9-7 and out of the playoffs.

well it depends
from south cleveland to north columbus is about 120 miles
from south columbus to north cincy is about 100 miles
columbus itself is about 20 miles to drive through.
assuming his son would be around campus, which iirc is on the north end of town, he will probably be about thesame distance away in cincy as he was in cleveland. At least far enough where 10-15 mies won't make a difference.

Rumors out of the Burgh are that if Whisenhunt is the new HC or if he leaves to go elsewhere then your former guy may be our new Oc. Bruce Arians.

Tomlin meeting with Steelers today

By Scott Brown
TRIBUNE-REVIEW
Wednesday, January 10, 2007

Jimmye Laycock has seen so much football, he can be forgiven if he can't quite remember the details about the catch.
Did Mike Tomlin make a one-handed catch? Did he make the catch with one arm behind his back?

All Laycock, who has been the head coach at William & Mary for nearly 30 years, knows it is was "one of the best catches we've ever had here."

Tomlin is poised to make another unlikely grab.

The Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator will become the fourth person to interview for the Steelers' head coaching job today when he meets with team chairman Dan Rooney, president Art Rooney II and director of football operations Kevin Colbert.

It might not be quite accurate to call Tomlin the long shot of the group of candidates that includes Steelers offensive line/assistant head coach Russ Grimm, Steelers offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt and Chicago Bears defensive coordinator Ron Rivera. He is the least known of the four, at least outside NFL circles.

What can be said of Tomlin is this: He is the same age (34) Bill Cowher was when Cowher succeeded Chuck Noll in 1992, and he has made a meteoric rise in the coaching ranks.

Tomlin has made his mark in the NFL because of the work he has done on defense, even though he played wide receiver in college.

In the five seasons (2001-05) Tomlin spent as Tampa Bay's defensive backs coach, the Buccaneers never finished lower than sixth in pass defense and twice ranked first among NFL teams in the category.

The Vikings didn't fare well against the pass in their first season under Tomlin -- they ranked 31st out of 32 teams in 2006 -- but they still finished No. 8 in overall defense and were first against the run.

But numbers apparently only tell part of the story of why Tomlin is so highly regarded.

He is described as driven and demanding yet as outgoing and able to connect with different kinds of people.

Tomlin certainly appears to be wired to coach in the NFL.

"There's a test at the end of the week, and we're evaluated on how we perform," Tomlin told the Pewter Report, which covers the Buccaneers, in November 2004. "That's the kind of job I've always wanted to have -- the kind of job I've always had to have. I love being measured against my peers. I guess that's my competitive nature."

Tomlin interviewed with the Miami Dolphins on Monday, and even if he doesn't get that job or the one he will interview for today, the prevailing thought is it will only be a matter of time before he is an NFL head coach.

"He'll get one," said Laycock, who coached Tomlin in the early 1990s at William & Mary. "I would feel very confident about that, because I think he would do excellent in an interview."

Thought this was interesting:

Bengals | Sheppard could become quarterbacks coach
Thu, 18 Jan 2007 21:02:17 -0800

Geoff Hobson, of Bengals.com, reports if Cincinnati Bengals quarterbacks coach Ken Zampese is hired as the Carolina Panthers new offensive coordinator, recently-hired wide receivers coach Mike Sheppard could become the team's new quarterbacks coach. If Sheppard moves on, former Cleveland Browns head coach Terry Robiskie is one option to coach the wide receivers.

Here

Maybe he can do for Chad & Hoosh what he has done for Dropcutt & B17.

I really hope Pittsburgh doesn't get Tomlin. I think this guy is an up-and-comer. I think this relatively young coach is the one guy who many don't know much about, but will soon.

Vers...

I think its scary either way. If they dont take Tomlin, theyll likely hire Russ Grimm...

He's got a lot of potential too methinks
