I know he's not a fit for this D, but thought it was still notable. web page Dolphins coach Tony Sparano just dropped something of a bombshell although we preall saw coming. "What I know and I'm glad we know this," Sparano said. "We gotten the information and that's important. I know that Jason is not going to be at any OTAs [Organized Team Activities]. I know that Jason is not going to be at any minicamps. And I know right now Jason is not going to be at training camp. "Jason is a player under contract with the Miami Dolphins. He knows that. Both parties are well aware of the information. That's all I'm going to say about it. I'm going to talk about our players now." And that's all he said. Taylor, through his agent, has requested a trade on several occasions. And the agent, Gary Wichard, has told the Dolphins that Taylor will not report for training camp unless he is traded ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. Although Sparano portrayed this like it's somehow new information it really is not. Taylor's thinking is simple: He wants to play for a winner and he doesn't think the Dolphins are that team. The Dolphins, Taylor believes, are in a rebuilding mode and that doesn't fit his agenda, which at 33 years old, is to win a championship. So Taylor ain't showing. He wants out. And he wants out now. He wants to play football, just not for the Dolphins. This is the proverbial tip of the iceberg, people. As I've been stating to a chorus of accusations that I sensationalize, the situation promises to get very ugly. Uglier than it already is. If Taylor isn't traded before the season in September, don't be surprised if he threatens to retire. The Dolphins, meanwhile, can't really do anything about this matter right now other than continue efforts to trade him. So far Taylor has missed only voluntary workouts. Starting with the June 6-8 mandatory minicamp, Taylor becomes subject to team fines. And the team will fine Taylor for every day he misses in training camp and grow angrier that such a distraction is threatening to overshadow the building of a team. And knowing the antagonists involved, don't be surprised if it gets personal when folks become frustrated enough to start speaking on the issue publicly. What was once a win-win situation is now looking like a lose-lose. If the Dolphins had done the logical thing and traded Taylor for a draft pick or picks around draft time, they would have added ammunition for building their team. Taylor, meanwhile, would have been happy to thank the team for 11 wonderful seasons and gone onto trying to win a championship for himself and new team. Win-win. But the Dolphins put a ridiculous asking price on Taylor (a first round pick) that no one was willing to pay. So of course, no one made a trade offer. So Taylor is still on the team, but he is about to conduct a holdout while the team has a soap opera on its hands. Lose-lose.
And the next head coach is ......

I agree this could get really ugly. I dont see anyone giving up more than a mid second day pick for Taylor. And I don't see the Tuna accepting it.

No but he can dance. I'm not sure how much football he's got left in him.

He's played at a high level for a long time, but his time is running short. He can probably play for a few more seasons but you have to question whether he will be able to play at the same level.

I'd be willing to bet he's got more left than McGinest does or has for the last couple of years. Too bad Parcells still thinks someone will pay for him like he's still 25.

I wouldn't be too sure that he is not a fit for this D or any other D. The man is a versatile player. OLB in a 3-4 would not be out of the question. He has speed and athleticism....even at 33. Although I do think 4-3 End is something he would be more comfortable with.

MAN, I love this new/old board.
With the New regime starting in Cleveland. It is key that the Browns draft Taylor Mays. He fits our scheme and is one of the best safeties I have seen

my question is.. how often does a team win a championship after a player joins them so he could win one?

Taylor, I think has 2 more years in him before the lure of Hollywood becomes too much, I mean age and time retire him He won't get moved right away, but it will be to a contender that needs him come training camp, and it will be for a "conditional" (how well he plays) pick.

Jason Taylor to Baltimore? Doubtful OWINGS MILLS -- After a local radio station reported today that the Baltimore Ravens have had official discussions with the Miami Dolphins about acquiring Dancing with the Stars star/Miami Dolphins All-Pro defensive end Jason Taylor, a quick response was given to the Times. In two words, a team official shot it down. "Completely false," is how the terse reply went. While Taylor is looking to get out of Miami given his fractured relationship with Dolphins football czar Bill Parcells and appears preoccupied with his Hollywood aspirations, a more likely destination appears to be the San Diego Chargers. The Miami Herald reported today that the Chargers have made inquiries to the Dolphins about Taylor. Geographically, that change of scenery would make sense with the Chargers' relative proximity to Hollywood. Taylor is an excellent football player, but he is 34 and due a $7.5 million base salary this season. It's hard to think the Ravens would be looking to bring him in since they already have Trevor Pryce and Terrell Suggs and face expensive decisions with Suggs, Ray Lewis, Bart Scott and Jason Brown all entering the final year of their respective contracts. Plus, Ravens offensive coordinator Cam Cameron and Taylor didn't exactly see eye to eye when Cameron was the head coach of the Dolphins during last year's 1-15 campaign. Taylor and Cameron reportedly had a "frosty" relationship. Could something ultimately develop? Hard to say. One hunch that makes sense is that Suggs' agent, Gary Wichard, who also represents Taylor, could have brought up Taylor to the Ravens in conversation. It doesn't take much to get the rumor mill going during the long NFL offseason. For now, it doesn't feel like this one is happening. web page

Good Player and I like his Lines and his lifts are phenominal
Destined for the West Coast I guess. With Orr, Peek, McMillan, McG and Hall we are probably full up for the SOLB which Taylor is probably more geared for the Weak side manned right now by Wimbley.
Hefty price tag coming with him in a trade for a situational player in our system. Even though I don't think we sniffed at him and he likewise.

Taylor's salary alone would scare any sane GM. Then asking for a 1st round pick on top of that is just plain The Dolphins need to get anything they can that is more than a case of Milwaukee's Beast

Not a fine fit, but ours are dropping like flies. Jerry Ball might start at OLB/corner at this rate . . . . Kidding!

Just as a point of refernce, Taylor is in amazing shape, is very durable, and has been highly productive for about a decade. He has not lost any quickness, and is still playing like a guy five years younger. He easily has 4 more seasons, but the question is how many does he want to play?
I'm not normally a proponent of wasting picks, but this is a move that makes sense. Taylor has evolved into a premier, versatile end/linebacker, though rumors persist he hates playing linebacker (most of that before he won DPOY though). The Browns pass rush is lacking a threat outside of Wimbley, who obviously was nullified most of last season.
Taylor is still an impact player, but he's not meshing with Parcells which isn't shocking. Parcells is going to remake that team without Taylor.

That would be a Snyder/Redskin type move not something Savage would do for the Browns.
Got to remember that the reality is we had no draft picks in 08 from the first 3 rounds now you are talking about widening the void of top youthful talent from the draft to yet another season 09 by trading our 1st round pick? And by a man who lives by the draft. Just about as much an impossibility as I can imagine!
Also no way we would consider making an investment of that nature for One or Two seasons which is what Taylor has in him...you can see he is eying retirement.
No way we even sniff at such an investment for a short term return.
Yeah - if no big sacrifice was affixed to Taylor it be cool to have him as a situational pass rusher and a spell McG guy for the season. But not at the price tag and 1st round pick it would take...even 2nd round.

I'm not 100% sure of the idea that Phil is a draft guy. Yes he came from Baltimore where Ozzie had that sort of philosophy, but the Ravens were always aggressive in trading for guys that they wanted (Boller, Adam Terry) that they wanted. If that's the case does he make all the trades he did in regards to the 2008 draft? I think it's more clear after the BQ, Rogers, Williams, Rucker, and Bell trades that Savage is a guy who will move up and around to fit his needs rather than sitting back idlely. He says he wants to keep the 2009 draft mostly intact, but if the right situation arises, I think the trigger would be pulled.
And this would be far from a Daniel Snyder deal. Jason Taylor can still play is an impact player. I don't know why everyone says he's one foot out the door, because he did Dancing with the Stars?

No thanks.
If we don't want to spend for Ty Law or Lito Sheppard then there is no way we spend for this guy.

Might be because the Tuna want's top dollar ( draft pick ) for a guy that will maybe play two more years, and has Hollywood on his mind.
I don't fault Taylor , but no team is going to give up alot for that. He has had a good career , but isn't worth giving up more than a 4 or 5 for . Take his contract into consideration and even that is questionable.
The Tuna certainly doesn't go out of his way to make vets feel wanted but thats his m.o. always has been.

I'm not an expert on the NFL Collective Bargaining Agreement, but I think that if a team trades a player once, they can't trade him several more times.

Hopefully they will work out something in the new Collective Bargaining Agreement that will allow this.
