Anyone? My first Wii Fit age was 33. Not bad considering it's younger than my real age. I just got it this afternoon...more thoughts and reviews to come.

You're talking the new wii fit thing.....with the foot board and stuff? If so, we're getting it in about 2 weeks. (why then? I don't know - ask my wife).

But, if that IS what you're talking about, how do you like it? And exactly what is it?

Yes, that's it...with the balance board (I think that's what it's called). I haven't played with it much yet. I'll let you know as I get more used to it.

I'm more interested to see what game developers do with the balance board then the game itself.

Oh, I agree. I look at it like Wii Play sold with a remote....so much money for the balance board and $10 or $20 for the game itself.

Michelle,

I picked this up yesterday as well. I was excited for it to come out and my wife thought I was nuts.

I played it for over an hour so far and here is my very early thoughts on the system.

The Wii board itself seems to be constructed rather well and with my 240 pounds I do not feel like I am going to break it when I step on to it. The only issue I have with the board is that it is slightly narrow for my taste. I wear size thirteen shoes and there is very little extra room on the board when I stand on it. My feet fit but another inch wider would make it better in my opinion.

I like the calendar feature and the body test was not too bad. The only improvement I would have liked to see here is for there to be a correction if you have more muscle mass than normal people. As some one who has lifted weights on and off for the last ten years I have a fair amount of muscle mass and it completely throws off the BMI, but of course this is always a problem when BMI is calculated simply by height and weight.

For example according to the BMI chart should weigh 80 pounds less than what I do to have a healthy weight, but Two years ago I was at 210, just 30 pounds lighters and I was working on a nice six pack. Consequently my WII fit age was 43 and I am only 26. But mentally I can adjust for this discrepancy, so it not a big deal.

The one question you have is, do you know how to change your goal once it is set or do you have to wait until the time frame elapses to make a new one?

Now to the actual game play. While the above administrative issues were slightly annoying, I think the game play makes up for it. I really enjoyed my brief run through of the system.

Yoga:

As some one who has done a little yoga, but had no training in it I found this way of doing yoga, much better than simply watching someone doing it on TV and then Trying to match your movements to it. While the Wii fit is the same basic premise, The feedback was very helpful.

It was nice to see after each pose and as I was doing them, how stable I was. The immediate feedback was great and it helped point out what I needed to work on and allowed me to try harder the next time.

However I was not able to do all of the poses as my living room was not big enough. I think that I will have to move the wii to another location, because my wife will not allow me to get smaller furniture.

Strength

I had the similar issues in the strength section as the yoga sectio with the lack of area so I did not do all of the exercises.

I did the lunges and one other and cannot remember the name.

I liked how the “trainer” emphasized technique.

This section was very easy for me and I was able to get four stars on the workouts, but I still found it helpful. For someone without there own gym at home this would be much more beneficial, but since I have a mini gym at home this was not as exciting to me, but I would not discount its usefulness none the less.

Balance Games

The wii fit does put a lot of emphasis on balance. It is a main component of your wii fit body test and wii fit age and there are a lot of games slash exercises to perform.

So far I played the soccer heading game. Actually this was the first game I played and I quickly realized that I had the wii fit backwards as when I leaned left my character on the screen leaned right.

I found this game fairly challenging, as it was actually hard for me to hit the balls and get my character to go where I was going. As I said before it was the first game I played and I was trying to get the hang of the balance board.

Marble roll.

In this game you have a marble on a platform and by leaning you tilt the platform to try and make the marble roll into the hole. Challenging and fun. I really like this game.

Slalom skiing. :

Simply slalom skiing as the name sounds. I found this game challenging and have yet ot make it down the slope hitting all of the gates. I like the fact that you have to learn forward and get into a more natural skiing pose to move your center of gravity so that you would go faster. This game is making me consider picking up the wii skiing that uses the balance board as I found this very fun.

Ski Jumping.

Fun little game that I could see me and my friends having competitions to see who could jump the farthest. I really enjoyed this game.

Aerobic games.

Hula Hoop.

Simple game, but not able to play much of it as I had knee surgery and the movement required for this game hurt my knee.

Stepping:

Similar to dance dance revolution where you have to step on and off the wii in a pattern. Very hard and challenging for me and looks like it could be a fun.

Running:

I think by far my favorite game. You don’t use the wii balance board but instead put a remote in your pocket or hold one, and then jog in place. It was a workout and it was great how my mii on the screen had the same pace as I did. The sound of my mii’s feet hitting the dirt path coincided with mine. Not to mention you don’t feel like an idiot running in place. Provided a good workout was challenging and fun.

Overall, I am very satisfied with the wii fit and would recommend it. It will be interesting to see what the other games are that can be unlocked.

I believe it said you can change/update your goals every two weeks...not positive about that, but when I set my goal I think I saw that on the screen.

Great review! I also think the board is built very well. And, I can see what you mean about needing another inch or two, especially in exercises where you have to stand with feet at shoulder width.

I haven't unlocked any mini games yet...messed with it for maybe 10 minutes yesterday. I plan to get more involved this afternoon.

Thanks for the information.

My issue was that When I first started the game. I did not have the extensions on the balance board and the game did not work right on my carpet. When I put them on, the bard read my weight as 10 pounds heavier than it was. Which actually put it within two pounds of what I weighed at the Drs this morning. So I am pleased with that.

However with my new weight my goal of losing 2 pound sin two weeks went up to losing 12 pounds in 2 weeks. Which is unhealthy and not reasonable and I wanted to change it. I guess I will just have to wait until that goal expires.

That reminds me that is anther thing that bugs me. It would be nice to be able to set up more than one goal. At least have a short term goal and a long term goal. That way you could use your short term goals to work towards your long term goals.

I've heard it's supposed to be a pretty high end scale...and you would pay close to what Wii Fit costs for one anyway, so not too shabby.

I agree about the short and long term goals...maybe they will add that in eventually. Doubtful, but maybe.

Question to Wii owners.

I have seen their games on TV, and they always seem to have those goofy characters in there games with the oversized heads. I figured it was a Nintendo thing, since all the games I saw with them were first-party games made by Nintendo. But I was watching X-Play briefly last nite and saw a preview for We Ski. It had the same goofy characters in it, but the game was made by a 3rd party company not owned by Nintendo.

Why do they use those characters in all the games? Is it a Nintendo thing? Kind of like a trademark? Or is it just having to do with the graphics engine?

You are probably referring to Mii's. You can make a Mii that resembles yourself and use it to play games. But, yes, they are cartoonish and kidish. Doesn't really take anything away from the gameplay, IMO.

As Michelle said above me those are the mii's, but are not used every game.

While the Graphics engine is not as high powered as The PS3 and Xbox 360, a majority of games have good graphics. For the most part the graphics are more on par with the xbox or ps2, but for me personally the wii controls and game play make up for the lack graphics engine.

Nintendo sacrificed graphics for motion when it made the Wii, and it has created a whole different feel to video gaming. The wii fit in this thread is a prime example.

It is just a different experience.

As others have said, that's the Mii character you create for yourself when you first get your Wii, it helps you save information related to you and such, as well as play some of the games.

Games like Tiger Woods PGA use the standard graphics players, not Mii character as do other "top" games.

Oh goodness, does it weigh you every time you turn it on and play? Kidding aside, I am looking to purchase this game in a few weeks. We bought our Wii about 2 weeks ago, and a I am itching to try this game out. You guys have made it sound pretty cool.

Ahh, gotcha. Couldn't figure out why all the characters that I've seen in their games looked similar.

That's the big issue with the BMI... and you'd be amazed at how many people always seem to come up with that short coming... typically I get from my clients who are obviously overweight but want to justify it by saying that have large bones or high muscle mass I do a few simple tests on them and then prove to them that no... they are overweight

Not saying this is the case with you... you sound more like a weight lifter or athlete... which is usually where the downfall comes into play. Which is why with any measure of obesity you should always take into account someone's body fat. Body fat percentages or something as simple as the waist to hip ratio are easy enough to do and along with the BMI give a really good indication if you are at risk for metabolic disease...

ok... off the soap box... Sorry... I work with our obese kids at work

Back to the wii fit... haven't bought it myself but I'm trying to talk my boss at work into getting one for our department. It's a cheap force plate basically... a medical force plate would cost a couple thousand dollars and I don't think would come close to the same biofeed back. I don't want it just for my obese patients but would also love to have this for my kids that have hemiplegia! The balance activities alone would be fantastic!

I agree, that believing that I have more muscle mass can be a crutch. I freely admit that I am overweight and that I need to lose a a fair amount of pounds. I Might even be slightly obese, but I am no way at the top of the scales.

BMI is a good calculation if done right, It is just impossible to have it done right with simply a chart and a scale.

I think that last time I had it measured in the gym I was at about 26, but the wii fit has me at 34.

Ohh well nothing is perfect but it is a good tool.

My mother-in-law bought Wii fit and loves it. I bought Dance Dance Revolution Party instead. I would rather do some drunk dancing to get into shape. Been having waaaayyyy too much fun with it, so much, I wanted to call off work to dance all day, lol. Instead, I decided to save my PTO day for Myrtle Beach when I visit her next week. Enjoy it Michelle. I'll probably buy it eventually. Going to try out my mother-in-law's first.

Okay, just used it for the first time a little bit ago.........my bmi is 25, so it says I'm overweight, and my fit age - whatever they call it, is 43 (I'm 39)........because I couldn't balance the damn thing?

Plus, on the soccer thing......heck on everthing I did, it is totally against natural instinct......to move your head left to hit a soccer ball, you have to lean right?

I don't like it. My wife and daughter love it.........hell, let them lean right to move left while playing a video game. When they get done, we'll go outside and play dodgeball and they'll be running into the balls i throw.

Do you have the board backward? The power button goes in the back, I believe.

Please, please please tell me that is true!!!!!!!!!! My wife and daughter SWORE it went in front..............I'm saying "why the hell is every move I make the WRONG direction?"

I hope you can tell me the button goes in back for a fact.

In fact, I'm going up to the house soon and I will tell them that anyway.

Heck, all I did last night was get on and move. And I stunk!

Geez, Michelle - our like of the game has gone WAYYYYYYYYYY up.

The only thing I did last night was the soccer thing and the ski jump, but my wife and daughter have done a lot more. I just went up to the house and said "it was backwards.", My wife is using it now and she likes it a lot more.

Thanks.

Yea, you can call me backwards ass anytime you want.....but remember, it was my wife and daughter that told me.

Depending on the gizmo, I usually don't need them either, but for the balance board I needed to know which was was which.

I think that is the difference between a man and a woman though. A woman will look at the instructions if she runs into trouble. A man will just say there is something wrong with the product

Just got my Wii Fit yesterday. I was not happy with my Wii Fit age

The balance games were pretty difficult, I am definitely going to work on that, but Hula Hoop was AWESOME!1 I smoked my wife and she was pissed!

Overall I was very impressed. It is well done, and a great way to have fun while exercising.
