Hello all! My buddy back home (Findlay) owns a store that sells all sorts of sports memorabilia. (Shirts, jerseys, bobble-heads, couches) for both pro and college teams. He is having Troy Smith at his store this weekend for an autograph session. On one hand, I thought any NW OH Buckeye Fans (or God forbid Ratbird fans who might be trolling ) might like to know about the opportunity to meet him/get his autograph. On the other hand, I know some boards can get touchy about anything that could be construed as advertising. I didn't see anything specifically in the rules against it (SITE pimping is on there.. but this isn't really about a website).. but just wanted to make sure it wasn't against board etiquette or anything. Thoughts? Thanks!

I notice you say " currently" is that something that may change? I think maybe a events announcement thread or forum might be a good idea. Maybe a tickets available of looking for tickets could be incoroporated into that.
Just a thought.

We are in the process of tossing around some ideas in relation to posts of a similar nature to this.

I'm not trying to start anything here, just saying... I think I remember a thread about some player being at Cardboard Heros to sign autographs. Just wondering what is the difference between the two circumstances? The fact that he is friends with this owner? Again, I'm just clarifying for future knowledge.

Things like that is part of what we are discussing.... where do lines get drawn?
No good answer yet, but we'll post more when it changes... until then it still is not permissable lest we open floodgates that have this place getting spammed left and right.

What about putting requirements such as a member for at least a month with at least 25 posts before you can advertise events? I think that would be a good way of limiting spam while allowing us to be able to advertise events.

That won't be a limiting variable but it will be one that is taken into account when screening these types of posts whenever the parameters have been established. A member may belong here for a day and reach 25 posts or a member may be here for 6 months before they reach 25 posts. To place a threshold such as that would just encourage spamming in order to reach the number of 25.

To be fair, he did say with 25 posts "and" a month, not either /or. I see what he's getting at, that they should be regular members.... which is what you guys probably want too. I don't know if it's possible, but maybe the refs can review the post and poster before it's actually posted. Maybe like an "e-vite" type form to insure all information is given, but don't alow replies. I know this isn't my job, and I don't know the technology available, just trying to help out.

We are looking at that very angle as well as a possibility. Thanks for the input.

Just an idea. I think it would be a great idea to allow post so dawgtalk members could let others know about card shows in the area, autograph sessions for athletes, benefit dinners, or other events. maybe put it at the bottom of all the forums. I dont think it would gather much attention, but it would be neat. Since this is the first site I visit when I get on the net, I wouldnt mind scrolling down to find something to do with my daughter in the area, because she loves sports.
