Well I think this should be a good series to watch if you like basketball. It will be interesting to see if Kobe dominates like he has all season. The Lakers have been rolling in the playoffs but Boston had the most wins by any team this year. I think Kevin Garnett is going to be a big factor on how the Celtics do,if he can get close to 20 points and 10-15 rebounds a game I think the Celtics could have a shot. Right now I would predict the Lakers in 6 or 7 games.

What I don't get is the media saying they don't want a Spurs/Pistons series because "we're all tired of seeing that" ... but if when we get a Lakers/Celtics series, then they're all exciting because these teams have met up 12 or so times before in the finals and now suddenly it's a "great rivalry".

Yeah I agree that it hasn't been much of a rivalry the last 20 years. The media just wants to play up the great match ups between the 2 in the 1980's. I still think it should be a good series though

I laughed so hard when I saw an ESPN ad saying "One of the most anticipated NBA Finals matchups in history." Really? In history? Says who?

Modern day playoff basketball doesn't hold a candle to Magic and Michael, Bird and Magic, Michael and Barkley, Bulls vs. Jazz, Bulls vs. Knicks, Bulls vs. Pistons, Rockets vs. Jazz, etc. etc. etc. Fuel that hype machine ESPN.

I'll watch game 1 just so I can see Kobe pour in 40 and let Boston know they may as well pack it in for the summer.

I have heard sports radio for weeks (and more so in the last few days) going on and on about how anticipated this match-up is to rekindle the rivalry.. I'm sorry, I was a teenager for those old Lakers/Celtics duals and this, no matter how good some of the players are, isn't going to be like those. Kobe, for as good as he is, isn't Magic... he just doesn't have the mystique and he isn't surrounded by Worthy, Perkins, Jabbar, Rambis, etc... and the Celtics, while talented, just aren't going to have that team chemistry that the old Celtics did with their 7 pass fast breaks (2 of them no-look passes) that end with a layup from the trailer or a wide open 3. The skill is there to make this a good series, but the personalities just don't seem to be there to make this compete with the old Lakers/Celtics rivalry...

I think KG will be the X-factor in this series. The Lakers frontcourt wont be as physical with him, and itll allow him to do more things, and keep more spacing on the court, and open up the lane more.

Also, Kendrick Perkns will be able to play his physical game that the Lakers may not be able to match, and look for him to have a big series.

The plan for the Celtics is to let Kobe get his and keep the rest of the Lakers from getting theirs. Since Kobe sets up everythig, much like LeBron does for Cleveland, If you let him get his and keep the rest of the team from getting what they usually get because of Kobe's abilities, then they should be able to win. Problem is Kobe can outscore teams for periods of time.

Should be a classic series of talent v. team. defense v. scoring

I see it going 7 with the Celtics winning.

I think so. Kobe will get his points for sure. Boston needs to shut down guys like Gasol and Fisher. Lamar Odom is going to have to play well and not be inconsistent like he has shown in the past. The series being a 2-3-2 could help Boston as well.

Is that because you're not a big hoops fan or you don't like the teams involved ?

Because I don't like the teams involved. Both are from huge media markets that the press salivates over and blows way out of proportion ... and they also have two of the most arrogant/obnoxious bandwagon fan bases as well.

I want to see The Black Mamba sink a dagger into the heart of every Bostonian. Eli did it in the Super Bowl, now is Kobe's turn.

i think the lakers will win in 6. Boston's not experienced, plus the Lakers have that "mystique" to them, IMO. Even though they haven't won since '02 or something like that.

LAs not experienced either and Boston has just as much "mystique" as the Lakers. The Lakers lost their "mystique" when Shaq was traded and now they are just starting to get it back and Boston is getting their "mystique" back with KG, Allen, and Pierce.

I think the longer the series goes, the more the advantage goes to Boston. IMO if it goes 4 or 5, the Lakers win, but if it goes 6 or 7 Boston wins.

And we matched up really well against the West ALL SEASON.

People think that Kobe is going to crush us, but that doesn't mean that their team will. Boston has flashy names, but we play defense as good as any team in the NBA.

Ray Allen is looking like he's getting out of his funk too.

The Lakers are a very good team, but the Celtics are very good too. I feel like people are putting this chip on our shoulder like we aren't that good. Obviously they haven't watched the Celtics this season and focused in on a few playoff games. We're in the finals, we don't have a losing record against any team we played this season.

We played them twice, beating them 107-94 on November 23rd and the score didn't get jacked up because of late game fouls or running the score: we had a double digit lead throughout the 2nd half of the 4th quarter, the Lakers didn't bother late game fouls.

On December 30 we beat them 110 to 91. No late game fouls, we smoked them.

Now I understand that these games were in November and December, this is six months later: but we didn't lose to them yet this season. Every team in the west we played we did well against. We lost to the Suns and the Hornets, but we beat them the 2nd time we played them.

I just think it's rediculous that people are putting away the Celtics in 5 or 6, the series is probably going to 7 but the Celtics could win in 6 as well. I think the Lakers are good, especially with Gasol, but give the Celtics some credit. They are a really good team.

The Lakers should be more afraid of us than we should be of them

i love how abc and the nba are dragging this series out, first you get a week until the first game is played, then you'll have 3 weeks before a potential game 7...

So does KG, PP, and my main man from Conn, Ray Ray. I would love Jesus Shuttlesworth come out and smoke the Lakers. In reality I think it's gonna be a little bit of all of them, mostly outstanding play from Pierce and solid play from KG.

I can't say good luck or anything like that BrownsBuck. The Lakers are about to learn what defense and obuntue is all about (it means togetherness, not that stupid def the ESPN announcers gave, calling it "group success").

I don't care how many games it goes as long as the Celtics win.

This is my fourth year being a committed Celtics fan, Ricky Davis made me fall in love with them. I've watched pretty much every game I could (and I go to school in Boston TV coverage area) and I can say we went from the pits to really good very fast. This is very big for me. hehe.

You thought right!

Close game but a wins a win. I was worried until the end of the 4th quarter. I'll tell ya, the Celts play great defense.

We're not a high scoring team, we have trouble scoring more than 100, but our defense is really good. Paul Pierce and KG have truely become complete players. They play D, they rebound, they score. Paul Pierce especially, he's playing some of his best basketball. Last year he was our leading rebounder for our team when he was playing. I don't have stats to check, but I'll tell ya he was. KG is a guy who came in very respected, and he sets the tone being the team's leader along with Pierce.

Ray wouldn't have put up the same numbers no matter what. But he's the one who's taken the biggest hit, he's lost his previous role big-time. While he isn't the same player he used to be, he hasn't had the opportunities that he used to have either. Ray would look a lot better on the Sonics, scoring wise and percentages probably too.

But I love having Ray for technical fouls and at the end of the game, the guy who shoots foul shots at the end of the game. He also can get going and start hitting his jumpshots. He doesn't have the same amount of opportunities to get into a rhythem, but he's a great option for your third best player. He's an experienced veteran who understands and works hard on D. As long as he doesn't play a super speedy guy (Rip Hamilton killed him), he's fine.

Celtics are taking home number 17. Our defense will prevail. Plus we're just too big inside, rebounding, etc. The Lakers are gonna have to successfully drive it and try to get our big guys into foul trouble. Otherwise the Celts will dominate the paint/control the glass.

Really good game tonight... was surprised as hell to see Paul run back on the court... looked like he had an ACL tear or something... glad he was ok though, would hate for this match up to be hampered by injuries.
