Am I the only loser who is going to watch part of this? Hoping for a miracle in Tim Beckham, an 18 year old SS, falls to the Reds at #7.

I'm not watching it since I am at work, but the Rays are selecting Beckham #1 so no miracle for you today.
When are the Indians picking? That is all thart really matters

Reds draft Yonder Alonso, first basement out of Miami(FL). Makes me wonder about moving Votto to Outfield. Odds are they were just picking the BPA with no regards to position.

Anything other than a pitchers and maybe a catcher is dumb for the Reds.

Not catcher. We drafted an 18 year old catcher last year in the first round. His name is Devin Mesoraco. I would have liked a pitcher or SS.

I pay very little attention to the baseball draft as it is years before you see these guys.

I used to be the same way and still am to an extent. I read about it in the Sporting News and did a little research this year. I was expecting us to take Alonso since Marty mentioned him the other night on the radio.
BTW Devin Mesoraco is batting .287 with 2 homers and a .387 OBP in Dayton this year.

7. Cincinnati Reds Yonder Alonso 1B Miami
Alonso is the first surprise of the draft. It's a surprise because they weren't linked to him and he's asking for $8 million and a major league deal. He's a left-handed power hitter with a very patient approach, and he should hit for quite a bit of power at Great American Ballpark. What does this mean for Joey Votto?

It means Joey is gonna have 3-4 years to establish himself at 1st base,
Joey has proven he is big leauge potential, this new guy hasnt even slipped on a AA uniform yet, so who knows if he can handle it. In 3-4 years if the Reds have a jam at 1st, you Red fans will smile and somebody will be moved to Left field.

So Joey will either be starting over Yonder ... or over yonder?
Okay bad joke, I apologize.

Just clickin, This was a stupid pick. Votto is the Reds 1B of the future. Yonder isn't that good defensively and neither is Votto so if you move one to the OF your gonna have 2 OFs who are below average defensively (provided the Reds keep Dunn). Plus there were highly rated players at other positions of need available.

How cool would it be to be Stink (ESPN's Mark Schlereth), former NFL lineman, and have your kid selected # 26 by the Diamondbacks? His son is a lefty who throws in the 90's and he was referring to him as his "little 401k", haha, in high school. How cool would that be to have your kid drafted in any major sport?

As I said earlier, we drafted a catcher last year 15th overall in Devin Mesoraco.

I heard an interview with the kid this morning. He said something about third base being a position he liked or something. He said he'd be happy to play anywhere they need him to. Who knows.

Can you say Encarnacion version 2.
Actually that wouldn't be right, Encarnacion can at least field the ball.

Here is info on the Tribe's first pick. Sounds like a swell guy. 29. Cleveland Indians The Pick: Lonnie Chisenhall, 3B, Pitt (NC) CC The buzz: A good bat from the left side of the plate. He has had some off-the-field issues in the past. He was kicked off the South Carolina team after being charged with burglary and larceny. http://highschool.rivals.com/content.asp?SID=1185&CID=814043

Not thrilled about the checkered past but the last time we rolled the dice on someone like this it worked out. Think the guys name was "Joey". Last name "Belle".

Cleveland Indians like them some Meechigan baseball. #176: P Zach Putnam #411: DH Adam Abraham #591: 1B Nate Recknagel Would be exciting to see all these Michigan guys get in to the farm system. Will be interesting to see if Putnam and Abraham return to Michigan. Here's 60 game totals: Zach Putnam: Could be a pitcher or positional player. Probably projects better as a pitcher but he can hit.... .309, 11 HR, 51 RBI Pitching stats: 9-0, 2.58 ERA, 76 IP and 78 K's Nate Recknagel: Was injured in the NCAA tournament causing him to drop but he's a big time bat at 1B. .368, 23 HR, 68 RBI, .751 SLG, .468 OBP Also a good glove..... .980 FLD% Adam Abraham: Another very good college bat.... .352, 82 hits, 7 HR, 54 RBI Was MOP of the Big Ten Tournament
