Just thought I would let you guys know. App. will actually be on Nationally twice as we are playing one of the only teams to beat us last yr. (Wofford) on Halloween night. Also on ESPN. No, I am not an idiot (just don't ask my wife ), I don't think we can pull off this size of an upset twice, but I do think we can keep it close for at least the 1st half. As the article states, we played them pretty darn close for 3 quarters last time we were down there, 14-0 into the 4th quarter. We actually drove inside the 20 yrd. line twice in the 4th qrt. and just couldn't punch it in. Anyway, just pimping my school again: Quote:
Season Opener at LSU to be Telewised Nationally on ESPN by Appalachian Sports Information
June 3, 2008 - BOONE, N.C. — Appalachian State University football’s 2008 season opener at LSU, set for Saturday, Aug. 30, will be televised on ESPN. To accommodate the live national broadcast, kickoff has been moved to 5 p.m. EDT (4 p.m. CDT).
A national audience will see one of the most intriguing matchups of the opening weekend of the ‘08 season, as Appalachian and LSU have combined to win five of the last 10 Division I FBS (Football Bowl Subdivision — formerly Division I-A) and FCS (Football Championship Subdivision — formerly Division I-AA) national titles. Last season, ASU became the first FCS team to ever defeat a nationally ranked FBS squad when it toppled No. 5 Michigan in the season opener and went on to win its third-straight national championship. LSU won its second national crown in five years when it downed Ohio State in the 2007 Bowl Championship Series title game in New Orleans.
The contest marks the second time in four years that the Mountaineers will venture into “Death Valley,” LSU’s 92,400-seat Tiger Stadium. In 2005, The Apps trailed the Tigers just 14-0 after three quarters before falling, 24-0. The Mountaineers had opportunities to go into the fourth period behind by less than one score, but had third-quarter possessions end with a dropped touchdown pass and a field-goal attempt that caromed off an upright.
Appalachian has won 13-straight nationally televised games, including last year’s opener on the Big Ten Network, and is 12-0 all-time on ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU. The game at LSU is the first of two ASU regular-season contests slated to be televised on the ESPN family of networks in ‘08. Appalachian’s home tilt versus Wofford will be broadcast live on ESPN2 on Oct. 31.
Additional Mountaineer games will be televised as part of the Southern Conference’s television package, which will be finalized in the coming weeks.

Sure, you can, but you probably won't.
However much a role being taken lightly may have played in last years great win for your and our Southern Conference team, trust me, it won't be there this year.
App St had a great game at the right time and took the heart out of Michigan...kudos.....maybe one of the biggest upsets of all time in college football when you get right down to it....but don't be to disappointed if you get clocked by 30-40 by LSU this year. Maybe more.
Keeping it inside 20 would be a very good showing. Inside 14 would be a great showing.
If everybody had like minds, we would never learn. GM Strong

Yeah because I am sure a SEC team has never been upset I guess Kentucky never HAS been upset because no one expects them to win anyways.

I think the main difference is that LSU will not over-look App State like UM did last year... and I'd say that for any top 10 program that plays App State this year, regardless of conference.
I think App State is a good team, but no way they beat LSU IMO.

Yup, I'll be honest, I am just hoping that we don't get blown out. We lost our whole starting secondary, our best O-lineman, a 1,500 yrd. RB, and our most experienced WR. Granted, for a I-AA program, we had a pretty good recruiting class, but you can't replace experience. One bright spot is that LSU lost some pretty good guys as well, including the guy they were COUNTING on at QB. Also, our coaching staff and several of our players have been to Death Valley before and played well. I think that LSU's coaching staff shows the App. vs. Mich. upset at least once the night before the game. LSU WILL NOT take us lightly. Again, guys, I don't think we can do it two yrs. in a row, but I do think we can at least keep it respectable through the 1st half.

Last year was a great year for the state of North Carolina (since I'm not a fan of any of the major teams)... the best football team was App State and the second best basketball team was Davidson....

before you go whole hog into that, stop and ask yourself about the logic and/or intelligence behind yelling "Go Turtles!".
You may as well yell "Go Snails!" or "Go Three-Toed Sloths!"... it just doesn't make sense
Browns is the Browns
... there goes Joe Thomas, the best there ever was in this game.

Here we go
Was it SEC football last year when Michigan, who lost to App State, beat Florida?
Was it SEC football when Missouri stomped Arkansas?
Was it SEC football when Wisconsin, -a nobody in the Big Ten last year, came within inches of beating Tennesee - a team that played for the SEC championship?
Was it SEC football when an Ohio State team that was supposedly rebuilding came within two scores of beating an experienced LSU team? Mind you, Ohio State experienced a dropped touchdown pass, a blocked field goal, a stupid stupid roughing the punter penalty, and some of the most one sided officiating that has ever been involved with a BCS title game. Then again, Ohio State did play LSU in Louisiana.

I kind of knew that the last little snippet I typed would get the most scrutinization. I couldn't resist, you know.
