Where are my fellow soccer fans at? Two days of the tournament are over and there's no thread running! I guess the English ones around here aren't too into things this year Anyway, a lot of fun so far, but some disappointing results too. Austria and Switzerland both deserved to win, but they didn't even get draws. The games tomorrow are going to be great, especially Italy versus Holland. My Germans looked awesome today; I don't know who's going to stop them this year. Deutschland vor! And not related to the Euro... but USA : Argentina tied 0:0 today. Pulling off a draw against the #1 team in the world is awesome!

I've watched some of the Euro but haven't caught a complete match... not bad play so far... and the USA game tonight was really great. I know it's just a friendly, but I thought we played well.

Did Argentina start their usual starters or they suit the local boys choir to play for them?

I have no idea haha... I was thinking the same thing, for most friendly's it's usually not the top tier guys, but with this being a tune up for the world cup qualifiers I wasn't sure if they were going to play their best or not. I don't know their team that well - Viper might know

I wasn't aware there was a Football tournament taking place .... I didn't catch the Germany game but by all accounts they looked very good and rightful tournament favourites. Looking forward to the group of death games tonight. It will be very hard to predict the qualifiers from that group but for me its France and Holland ..... goodbye Italy I have backed Spain at 6/1 to win the tournament (kiss of death maybe!)

Argentina had, if not all of their best players, many of them playing, including Lionel Messi.

Dang you viper.
I came in here to talk the euro 2008 and instead I get the recording of argentina - usa that I was going to watch tonight spoiled.
As to the games.
Switzerland definately deserved to atleast draw, but you have to finish. The Chech republic did just enough to win.
The austria croatia game was interesting in that for how much espn talked down the austrians the croations did nothing. it was a ticky tack penelty, but the defender should never have put the ref in the position to have to make that call. It was a very clumsy play and he was lucky to still be in the game a few mintues later when he pulled the croatian player down from behind just outside the box.
Germany did look good and I hope that they do well in the tornament. My wife has spent almost two years there studying and we may move there in a few years so they are my adopted european team.
Also with that game I thought the camera work wasn't very good. At the begining of the match when ever the ball was on the near touch line you could not see it as the camera would not go low enough. I thoguht it was kind of frustrating. That ans espn likes to put up graphics that cover up the ball from time to time.
Portugal looked good too. I know a lot of people hate ronaldo, but I thought he had a good game. He provided two wonderful chances. Where one went off the woodwork and he had that free kick where the keeper made a wonderful save. If there role players continue to step up they will be tough to beat. although I remember their defense being a little chaky from time to time.

Sorry about that Hungry. I'm so used to combining all soccer-related thoughts into one thread around here. How about those Dutch? I know that as a supporter of Germany I'm not supposed to cheer for them, but I love what they're doing to Italy right now

Netherlands up 2-0 on Italy in the first half. Almost put up a third goal right now.
I want the Cleveland Browns to be my pallbearers so they can let me down for the last time.

3-0 for the Netherlands today over Italy. That was a huge shocker, but they earned it. I'm really excited for tomorrow; I can't wait to see how Sweden does this year.

Holland looked very good. Considering Robben is out injured and Van Persie is not 100% they looked real contenders. Van Der Varrt and Shneider (sp!) are both quality creative players and Van Nistelrooy is still a world class striker.
Not looking good for Italy - they miss Cannavaro and looked very open in defence.
Looking forward to watching Spain tonight ......

That was a huge surprise. A Spanish friend of mine was telling me how Spain should've stayed home so that they wouldn't embarrass the country. I'll be writing him an email in a few minutes.
How about Sweden today with an awesome win over Greece. Spain vs Sweden should be a good game later this week.

Spain are similar to England in that individually you have a collection of World Class players (Iniesta, Xavi, Villa, Torres, Fabregas) but for some reason they dont play well as a team. In the past there has been a huge rivalry within the Spanish camp between Barcelona players and Real Madrid players ... this no longer seems to be the case.
If the Spanish defence can play well then they have a great chance.
The Portugal v Czech Republic game should be a good one ....

It is Rugby headgear, he has probably had a recent head injury. Head gear like that is seen everyone on a while for that purpose in soccer.

Petr Cech, the Goalkeeper in question, suffered a depressed fracture of the skull in a clash during a game earlier this season. Since then I think he has had a number of other head injuries and he wears that for protection.

Wow... what a shocker today. I feel terrible for the Swiss. Being the host country and getting beat in the final minutes like they were today was just heart breaking. I really hope Austria can come through tomorrow so that at least one of the host countries advances.
Portugal looked great again today. Looks like Germany has some serious competition.

Croatia over Germany was a surprise. Poland up on Austria 1-0 with 30 minutes to go.

These last two days of the tournament have been great. Dutch scored four against the French yesterday, and Spain beat the Swedes today in the 92nd minute.

That Holland game was purely amazing. When Robben took that show I thought that there was no chance it would go in. That has to be one of the best goals I've ever seen.
I'm still bummed that Sweden lost though, as they're my second team behind Germany.

Wow. Is anyone else watching the Czech vs Turkey game? Turkey just tied it up in the 87th minute...
Come on Czech!

That game can only be described as unbelievable. I thought it was over when the Czechs went up 2-0, and I really thought it was headed for PKs when the Turks tied it. I can't believe they scored that third goal. I'm also happy that the Swiss got a win today, even if it was meaningless.
This tournament has more than lived up to the hype, and the Austrians and Swiss have been great hosts. Truly one of the greatest spectacles in sport.
Come on Germany!!!

Dang Italians made it through to the second round, completely undeserved. Fance didn't deserve it either (and neither did Romania). I wish we could've just left out the second team from Group C. Big game today in Sweden vs Russia. Here's hoping the Swedes can pull this one out. Stå upp för Sverige
