More proof people sick.. WOW that is all I have to say.. http://www.cnn.com/2008/CRIME/06/16/toddler.killed.ap/index.htmlPolice shoot man as he beats toddler STORY HIGHLIGHTS Man beat child behind pickup truck on dark, rural California road Passing motorists tried to stopped beating, called police Police shoot, kill man Boy pronounced dead at hospital Next Article in Crime ยป TURLOCK, California (AP) -- Police killed a 27-year-old man as he kicked, punched and stomped a toddler to death despite other people's attempts to stop him on a dark, country road, authorities said. Investigators on Sunday were trying to establish the relationship between the suspect and the child they say he killed Saturday night. The Stanislaus County coroner said the boy appeared to be between 1 and 2 years old based on his size, according to county sheriff's deputy Royjindar Singh. "It's been a long night of wondering, 'Why?' -- not only for the officers and the passers-by who stopped and tried to help out, but for anyone. Why would somebody do this?" Singh said. Singh said the coroner does not plan to confirm the identities of the suspect and victim until Monday. Because his injuries were so severe, the child will have to be identified through a blood or DNA test, he said. The suspect had a child's car seat in the back of his four-door pickup truck. The truck caught the attention of an elderly couple at 10:13 p.m. Saturday because it was stopped in the two-lane road facing the wrong direction, Singh said. As they got closer, the couple saw the man beating the toddler behind his truck and throwing the child on the ground, according to Singh. Two or three other cars stopped, an unusual number to be passing through the remote area surrounded by a dairy, a cow pasture, a cornfield and a farmhouse, he said. Don't Miss Local coverage: Modesto Bee KCRA: 'A long night of wondering' Witness sought in killing of girls "What we got from witnesses is he was punching, slapping, kicking, stomping, shaking," Singh said. "They tried to intervene and get involved, but their efforts really didn't have an effect. The suspect was engaged in what he was doing. He just pushed them off and went back to it." A sheriff's helicopter responding to emergency calls from the area landed in a cow pasture at 10:19 p.m. carrying a Modesto police officer who shot the man to death after he refused an order to stop beating the child, Singh said. Paramedics tried to resuscitate the toddler, who was not breathing when they arrived. The boy was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. No children within the dead boy's age range have been reported kidnapped or missing in Stanislaus County, Singh said. The killing happened on Bradbury Road about 10 miles west of Turlock, a city about halfway between Sacramento and Fresno. E-mail to a friend | Mixx it | Share

These stories don't surprise me any more. They have become so frequent that I expect to read one every couple of weeks.

Stories like this make you think humanity is doomed unless we somehow change.
We don't have to agree with each other, to respect each others opinion.

You are correct on SO many different levels.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

This is our legal system at its best. Caught in the middle of a violent crime? Put a bullet in em.

Don't you think they did the right thing by putting a bullet in him? I think they did.

I couldn't tell if that was sarcasm either... I'm not for vigilante justice, but the guy was in the process of beating a toddler to death and wouldn't stop when warned... shooting him was the right thing to do.

You don't know until you see it happen.
Sometimes it's easier to say you'd step up than actually do it. May be it's because I'm young, but I've seen it a lot.
I've seen two car crashes in this one place with a curve in the road and a tree. Both times walking home from Middle School. One time a babysitter roled a minivan with a little kid in it. I remember being in the 7th grade and wondering if i should do anything when the woman and kid were trapped inside. We were too scared and a minute later some high school boys came by. But no motorist got out of their car or stopped. I felt guilty for awhile on that one and swore i wouldn't let somebody in an emergency situation go unattended to.
A guy who used to be a really good friend of mine used to beat his girlfriend. Never in public, but it was a known thing. Nobody ever had the balls to do anything about that though. I told him that we weren't friends anymroe because of it, but i never had the guts to fight him. I also told him that if her father were alive he'd probably kill him. If I could have beaten him up I would have, a lot bigger than me and a lot tougher than me. Instead I told him to have a nice life.
But yeah, that's a situation that everyone let go on.
So I dunno, people just don't go completely out of their way to help people anymore. Like that guy who kept getting hit by cars and nobody helped him, although a few dialed 911. You hear about people in NYC being stabbed on the subway or simply in public.
In my ed class they talked about a guy who did an experiment and pretended to beat a little girl out in public. He did it for a really long time before anybody did anything. One woman called her cellphone and after a long period of time two men, from different directions who didn't talk to eachother before hand, both looked at eachother and nodded when in distance and pounced on the guy.

bystander effect. same as when a car crash occurs and everyone assumes that someone will call when nobody does.
for this experiment with the kid pretending to beat on the girl: where did you hear of it? took a few psych classes and heard of something similar. Was the kid actually beaten up and did he live long enough to tell the two attackers that it was an experiment?
Go Browns!

No question in my mind I would help where a kid is involved. We're talking about a man beating a little defensless kid.I would hope that most people would get involved.

No, no one ever knows anything about themselves in a situation type until they are in that sort of situation, but if we're going to pull out anectdotes about jumping into action or failure to act, I have plenty on the action side.
Including one that resulted in me getting stabbed 3 times just breaking up a fight and one that includes me standing up to a guy twice the size of me when I was 13 because he used to beat my cousin that he was dating.
Harley, I'm with you... I don't think I would have waited long or put much thought into it.

I was in a similar but yet, smaller to scale situation about a week ago. I witnessed a young guy kick a girl in her stomach while she was on the ground at the 7-11 around the corner from me. I pulled over and called the County Police (as all good citizens should) and remained until the police arrived however the couple (she had a baby in a carrier) walked away together. I was like, what the hell is that all about??? I spoke to the officer when he arrived and asked what rights DO I HAVE as a citizen. He stated that all I could "legally do" is call the police. If it was a situation whereas the young lady's life or mines was in danger, do your thing BUT you are subject to also being charged with assault if you injure the perp. ...I guess that would be recorded as my stint up in the "joint" then.. .....And for a good thing too.....
