NFL Player Victim Of Robbery
Oakland Raiders Player In Fair Condition

POSTED: 4:38 pm PDT June 16, 2008
UPDATED: 8:41 pm PDT June 16, 2008

LAS VEGAS -- NFL wide receiver Javon Walker was the victim of an apparent early morning robbery, according to Metro police.

Walker was found unconscious at about 7:19 a.m. Monday near the intersection of Koval Lane and Winnick Avenue, officers said.

The Oakland Raiders player was taken to Sunrise Medical Center’s Trauma unit, where he was listed in fair condition late Monday afternoon, hospital officials said.

Police said Walker had significant injuries.

According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal columnist Norm Clarke, Walker was seen Saturday night at Tryst at the Wynn spraying the crowd with some of the 15 bottles of Dom Perignon Rose champagne he ordered.

Clarke also said Walker was at Body English at Hard Rock Hotel and Casino until 6:30 a.m. Monday and that his first round of champagne cost him $15,000.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555.

Watch FOX5 News at 10 for more details and refresh fox5vegas.com for updates on this developing story.

To update the story, another site is claiming he suffered an orbital fracture, which basically is your eye socket, as they call it.

Football players need to stay out of Las Vegas. It's nothing but trouble for them.. Didn't someone else well-known recently get robbed there as well?

It was mainly Porters five friends beating up Levi Jones while Porter stood in the background and threw in a few punches.

This gets debated every time a story like this comes up... I know they are young and rich and can do whatever they want... but when are they going to learn? It's not about going to clubs or strip joints or Vegas, it's about acting like an untouchable ass when you are there. Nobody DESERVES to be the victim of a crime but if you go to a club and just have a good time without drawing a ton of attention to yourself, stuff like this would happen less... But when you go there and buy $1000 a bottle champagne just so you can shake it up and spray it on people, others are going to take notice... and some folks in the crowd might just determine that you have more money than sense and decide to take some of it from you....

I hate stories like this. Who cares if he spent $15 grand on champagne? Maybe it was a big day for him, maybe it wasn't. Either way, I doubt seriously he paid for it in cash. I'm not wealthy and I don't carry much cash at all. I charge everything then transfer the money from checking. You lose less that way by accident or theft. We don't know how much cash JV had on him, though, since the story doesn't say and that's what really matters.

Hope he's okay.

You could be correct, but shouldn't you wait for the real story to come out before you throw assumpitons out there?

for all we know, Walker went to Vegas for a poker tourney or something that all of us would do as well (though probably higher stakes), then got roughed up on the way back to his hotel.

I mean...muggers notice the clothes people are wearing...if it's a nice suit, they'll assume you have money. Does that mean that you should dress homeless when you go to Vegas?

I believe where they found him is several blocks off the strip, what was he doing there, or was he abducted first and dropped there?

I'm thinking if I got money to blow on several bottles of Dom, I'm staying in the casino that I'm partying at, or taking a limo from place to place.

I won't pass judgment on the man, he didn't do anything illegal, nor did he harm anyone else. He's having fun, as most people do from time to time.

I wish him a speedy recovery.

Not that I think these guys should stay home and be choirboys are anything... But sometimes the things that these players let themselves get involved with simply amazes me.

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but doesn't the NFL and the NFLPA try to coach these guys to the hazards they will face out there?

Yet, no matter how many times they are told to watch out for this or that, you still end up with the Pacmans.

I know that Walker is a young man with bag full of money, but the total lack of restraint on his part is what most likely got him into this mess..

I hate seeing anyone get hurt like this, but damn,, sooner or later, these kids gotta learn..

But that's JMO for what it's worth

Kind of irritates you when these guys demand new contracts or hold out.....then spend $15 grand on champagne so they can shake it up and spray it on some women. Crazy.

Doesn't bother me in the least. Everyone negotiates their salaries and spends money on frivolous things, don't they? I know I do. As long as we, the fans, keep paying the costs to go to games, they will keep making more money.

I just don't understand why people care what he spends his money on.

I guess it's just the point of it.

People sign a contract and then want more money. You signed the contract, you honor it. That's just the way I feel.

Well, it's their money. I'm sure people could look at the things I spend my money on and call me crazy too. I have two personalized Browns jersey's (gotta have Brown and White you know), a Jim Brown retro jersey, a Kosar fake retro jersey and a Orange Edwards jersey. And I'm not even going to talk about my shoe, plaid pants and snowboard gear collections.

As far as the night/day in question. Who really knows what went on. He could have had some muggers kidnap him off the strip and beat him down, some bookies rough him up for some owed cash or he was with some other guys woman. And as far as the champagne, it might have been his birthday. Who can tell right now.

One thing for sure, nothing ever good happenings after midnight (unless you're at home with your significant other).

Oh I don't care what they spend their money on. I guess I was misunderstood. I'm talking about players who hold out for money when they've already signed their name to a contract, then blow the money on something stupid like that. They really didn't need that extra cash, I'm sure. If they signed a contract, they can spend it on what they want.

Koval lane runs behind the Venetian, the Imperial Palace etc.
he may have been there waiting on a cab. since it is easy to get one behind the casino's.

Actually, I really don't care much what he spends his money on,,

Maybe I'm just old or something, but staying out until 6am partying, drinking and basically putting themselves in "harms way" is what I have a problem with.

I mean, an accountant making 50k a year doing the same thing is making the same mistake.

So it's not what they do for a living, or how much they make.. it's that they completely lack common sense.

But being a millionaire and a sports figure just makes it more public... That's where the problem really is. That accountants name would never hit the paper until he dies... Walker gets a hangnail after being jumped and it's all over the sports page...

Do you see the difference?

I agree Michelle.

The guy was at a couple of legit spots...not some shady back alley pool hall or brothel.

The guy got rolled. It could happen to anybody.

I don't care what he spends his money on, I'm sure he probably charged it all, and I have no idea how big of a day he had....

Perhaps one day a celebrity athlete will get mugged, shot, stabbed or beaten coming out of a Piggly Wiggly in Hartsville South Carolina then I might have to retract my statement... but for now I stand by my statement that it's not a coincidence that darn near every one of these stories includes very similar phrases.. "wee hours of the morning"... "outside the club".... "spending lots of money"... etc... I still don't think it's RIGHT or JUSTIFIED that he got mugged or beaten... and I really do hope he's ok...

Considering that Walker held his dying teammate, Darrent Williams, in his arms after a champagne incident in Vegas, I would have to agree with anyone who questions the intelligence of Mr. Walker. Williams death was sad, Javon's actions seem foolish and ignorant.

That's what I was thinking. I think it was Dawg Michelle who said how much cash could he have. These guys probably dont bring out THAT much cash. It's the jewelry that they wear that makes people want to rob them. That and the people/places they hang out at/around. Of course you always hear about rappers and athletes getting robbed, and they always lose tons of money in jewelry.

Why not wear that diamond spinner to family gatherings, out during the day, etc. rather than past midnight on a night of partying. That's why he's got no sense.

Now I think it was DawgPound017 who complained about the contracts. Players not honoring them........... How is it fair for a team to release a player........if a player cannot release themselves from a team? Tit for tat, if the NFL contract was completely guarenteed, I'd bet players wouldn't have leverage to hold out. NBA guys really don't do it.........besides Cavs players, hahahahhahahaha!

Amen to that GM. And I LOVE to wear very nice jewelry as often as I can. I also know (to snag a line from Jules) people are just no damn good. I'm sure as hell not advertising that I have a boatload of money/expensive things. You have to learn how to roll without getting taken advantage of (robbed).

That being said...I hope Javon recovers quickly and that the buttheads that did this are quickly caught.
