I know the draft is coming up in a little over a week, but haven't read much on it. Was hoping the Cavs would end up with Koufos (a Z clone in my mind) or Brandon Rush (we need a shooter and he can defend), but in the few mocks I've looked at, they seem to be gone before 19. Assuming the Cavs stay at #19, who do you all think would be best fits for the Cavs?
At this point, if Koufos and Rush are gone, I'm thinking Courtney Lee or maybe Mario Chalmers.

If Ferry selects Koufos I'll climb up on a water tower with a high powered....Sorry, I lost focus. We don't need another soft, 7 foot "finesse" player. We already have Z. I want someone who can either knock down a jump shot or a banger who can play defense, post up and play with their back to the hoop.

Well...I have made the comment that Danny Boy could fall into a pile of boobs and come out sucking his thumb. Hopefully that changes...

I say we trade our first round pick for multiple second rounders. We haven't hit on anything in the first round in recent years (except Lebron). The Cavs has a knack for finding talent in the second.

Z is one of the best centers in the game, and he only has 3 years left at most. Kufos is a perfect transition from Z in a few years.
Kufos can knock down a jump shot, so by what you want at 19 that is a good pick. I'm not sure where you (and lots of other people) think we will have an opportunity to draft a day 1 stud at 19th in the draft, they just arnt there. You find people you can develop that you feel translates into the NBA under your style of play.
Kufos will fit perfectly with LeBron with the pick and pop/roll offense he likes to run, just like Z and Anderson do. LeBron will make Kufos into a good player because he plays his style.
The big banger type of center isnt there at 19, but Kufos can score and thats what we need with our stand around offense. He will be a good player in the league. We would be stupid not to take him.

I want them to move the pick in a trade, if possible. I want someone who can help Lebron NOW, not a project we'll have to wait two years on. It's not like we have the luxury of time with LBJ's contract expiring in a few years.

I agree.
I am not a big NBA fan, but from what I watch, Z is a good player.
We have a pretty good core of young players. If I was in charge, I would give serious consideration into trading LBJ...we could get a great player, a good player and two #1 picks for the guy....maybe more.

I know it won't happen until we keep losing out with the best player in the league while teams without the best player win championships.
But once we trade him because it is apparent we won't be able to sign him, we won't get nearly the value.
We will still get value, but it won't be anything near what we could get now.

You're aware that his name on the roster elevates the team's value by nearly eight figures, right?
You might be committed if you made that move.

Sure I am....another reason why others won't do it...
Look at the roster. We have some decent players, but nothing really great. That trade we made was more for this past season then anything deep into the future.
We are going to be good enough where we won't get to draft the best players because we will make the playoffs, get bumped and left wondering what needs to be done next.
Look, I don't dislike James at all and want to keep him....we don't really have much else to trade and we aren't going to get much better with drafted players unless we get really lucky picking guys in the late teens to early 20's.....sometimes those guys end up really good.
The players we will be able to draft will probably be project players...early entry guys....boom or bust guys. we aren't going to get a rose or someone similar who can come in and help from the beginning...and that is what we need because the clock is ticking on James.
Sooner or later he is going to want rings, and if he feels he can't get them here, I don't care what his contract says or how the cap works, he will find a way out of town.
We are in the unfortunate position of having the best player without the added complements and no real way to add them quickly.
Just the way I see it.

If you were in charge, you would have paid $375 million for a team previously worth less than $100 million before LeBron.
Does that really seem like a good idea..?

lol, I don't know, but I don't think we'd ever find out of we traded LeBron. This is Cleveland, its not easy to reload...
We won the lottery, why would we throw out the ticket?

you can't trade lebron, because you would not get the value back you would need...
they are better off waiting this year out, and either trading the expiring deals, or letting them expire and going after an elton brand, or someone like that
trading lebron would be laughable.

We already have Robin Lopez, and his name is Anderson Varejao. You will not see us getting Robin Lopez, unless we are moving AV on draft day or KNOW we are moving him down the line.
Then I read down a few posts and see you say that you are not very familiar with the NBA and how it works (not those exact words)
Then, a few posts later you are saying what we should do with LB and how we should build the team. Look, LB is not going to get traded for the fact that you will never get equal value for him.
Your ideas for the Cavs are interesting to say the least

Anyone interested in trying to get Heinrich on draft day? Bulls will take Rose unless they are incompetent...
I think it may be a possibility (AV plus a pick), and I could see it being a fit...

Isn't he a captain for the Bulls??
I don't think selecting Rose takes him off the court that much....but sure...give our pick and trade AV...works for me

no, he's not a captain, and he's actually been talked about in trade rumors for the past 2 years
he's not a bad player, he probably would do well in cleveland...
the bulls should take derrick rose, even though they have enough guards

The Cavs are a 15 win team without LBJ and Dan Gilbert might as well sell the team if he trades him as far as I'm concerned...
In terms of the draft, in the #19 spot, I like Chris Douglas-Roberts, Brandon Rush, Donte Green, Darrell Arthur, Mario Chalmers, Robin Lopez, Kosta Koufos...I'd be happy with any of them

i want the best athlete, preferably a 3/4 guy, but, i think ferry should take the best guy available, regardless of position...
i just really would like to see someone who is not just a catch and shoot guy...
i would love to see us move up and grab oj mayo...
that guy is ready to play now

We ALL have seen what actions need to be taken to acquire an NBA Championship team....The Celtics are a perfect example....It's a simple equation in theory....To win an NBA Title and create a potential Dynasty , you Must have more than 1 bonefide Star on your team....So far the Cavs have Not shown that they understand this fact....In our case it's especially Frustrating considering we have the best or one of the best players in the NBA....IMO Heinrich would be a Good fit , however , as has been said Lebron and Gibson are tight(His little brother , as I have heard him called) so in any scenario Gibson must remain a Cav....Personally I would be leaning toward grooming Gibson as our future starting PG and sign a Vet to Mentor him , Cassell for example....So in the end , just like every franchise that has won an NBA Title , Mr. Gilbert will have to step up and pay for it....As to the Draft whoever we select should be able to have an immediate impact....

I think Cavs fans will get a feel for the type of GM that Ferry will be during this offseason through the trade deadline or next offseason. The Cavs finally have some tradable assets - expiring contracts. The Cavs should be able to make a deal with a team looking to rebuild and acquiring LeBron's 2nd hand man. If not, they should be able to sign him next offseason. If neither happens, THEN I will agree that Ferry is a bad GM like I have heard from many Cavs fans.

oh, wait, danny ferry doesn't know that you need talent to win nba championships?
but you do? man, maybe you should be our gm.
i don't think you quite get it.
danny ferry brought us larry hughes, he showed the organization that he was going to bring us the best possible player...
at the time, it looked like it...
michael redd? there was no chance of him coming here, don't buy into all the "oh, the cavs didn't take him to a restaurant" or "lebron didn't meet him at the airport" it's actually really simple, nobody is dumb enough to pass up a deal that offers 20 million dollars more...
ray allen also wasn't going anywhere, those were the 2 best guys available, after that it was larry hughes and joe johnson, and at the time, hughes looked like a great fit, a guy that could give you close to 20 a game and good defense... joe johnson was a shooter and really, that's about it
it turns out we should have probably went after johnson, but it's really easy to point that out now, 3 years ago i don't remember one single soul saying the cavs should have went after joe johnson...
outside of that, ferry has had very little to work with...
i think he's actually a pretty solid gm, he found gibson in the second round, he picked up flip murray a few years ago, which sparked the cavs late in the year... (they actually became a much better road team after he was acquired)
and everyone has banged on him for not bringing in a point guard, but easier said than done... i'm actually surprised he was able to pull off that deal last february... while we didn't get that second guy, we got some pieces that could eventually help us win a championship (and boston showed you need those pieces, they have the 3 guys, but rondo, house, perkins, pj brown all did their part) and was able to dump a guy in larry hughes (who is on record as saying he wasn't dedicated to winning a championship) and still kept our financial status for the next 2 years intact, actually strike that, he actually bettered it. amazing.
but his biggest and most crucial moves are coming...
i really think we have the surrounding pieces to win a championship, i think delonte west can be a part of that, i think joe smith still has 2, maybe 3 good solid years left, and i think ben wallace can also have a role...
we just need that one guy, i don't think we need a big 3, i think if we were to get one more bona fide star-level player that could be enough, because lebron is so damn good, that they nearly got it done with him alone.
and i think some guys on this team (pavlovic, varejao) need to look at themselves in the mirror, and get better, and play to their potential, because they held us back this year, big time.
at times pavlovic looked like a damn rookie out there, and this was a guy who a year ago, played pretty good basketball in the playoffs.
and i really want to see devin brown re-signed, i don't know why we didn't see more of him in the boston series, he's a great bench guy.

And the Hawks had to send Boris Diaw (solid player) and (2) future first round draft picks to get Joe Johnson.
Can you imagine the flack Ferry would have taken, when Larry Hughes was available by just offering a large contract.
Larry's numbers his last year in Washington (2004-2005) PPG: 22.0 Assists: 4.7 Rebounds: 6.3
The above 3 numbers are awesome....but there's one more:
Steals: 2.9 - led league I believe

Looks like you two get it. Unfortunatly, there are still people out there that think Ferry should of been able to pull a rabbit out of his butt. I agree, this is the off-season that will make or break him. He's finally got some tradable assets, and some draft picks, so we can see what we can do.

i'm really hoping we can somehow acquire elton brand, either by trade or by free agency... i think he is the perfect fit for the cavs, and i think he could make a number of players better...
the guy is 20&10 night in, and night out...
no character issues, a team guy, pretty decent defensively...
and it is the clippers, so they could easily fall out of it early and put him on the block...
and i definitely could see them wanting to clear cap space, i mean they're the clippers, that name alone says "just rob me"
and i think if you can get that, maybe get yourself a decent player in the draft, you have yourself a much, much better team capable of winning a championship
and also, you should still have some money with expiring deals...
