As of yesterday, I am officially enlisted in the United States Army. I am leaving for Basic Training on August 13th, and will graduating at the end of October.

I'm only enlisting as a Reservist for now, and will be going back to school at Ohio State for the spring quarter. While I'm there, I'm going to contract into the ROTC, so I'll be a commissioned officer after I graduate, where I will switch my contract to full-time.

It still all feels surreal, especially when the recruiters refer to me as Private.

Heh, wait till your first day of Boot. Whatever happens, don't give up bud. It can seem like forever when you're there closed off, but you'll look back and see it went by very quickly.

And I will thank you in advance for serving. Good luck at whatever MoS you decide on.

Congrats and thank you.

You sure you wanna go the officer route? As soon as you put on your first bar your IQ drops significantly, and only gets worse with each promotion there after.

For the reserves, my MOS is 27d, Paralegal Specialist. I chose this because after I'm finished with my time on active, I'm hoping to attend Law School.

I'm going to apply to be either an Infantry or Field Artillery Specialist, and hope to attend Airborne School and potentially Ranger School. But I'll cross the bridge when I get closer to that time..

Congrats man. I'm a former Marine. I've always said that completing Boot Camp at Parris Island will always be the greatest accomplishment of my life. I'll never forget my senior drill instructor dismissing our platoon for family day liberty. -I hadn't seen, or talked to anybody in my family for 13 weeks. "Platoon 3037 dismissed" as I walked the crowd of my platoon, each fellow Marine being greeted by their hysterical families, I kept looking and looking, and then my sister Andrea appeared out of nowhere. She ran up to me, and hugged me. Other family members followed. It was the most special moment of my life.- And I've graduated from a Universtiy, and have gotten married.

Believe it or not, you will have a lot of fun at basic training, but, you will never want to do it again.

Good luck.

Have you chosen an MOS?

Congrats! Take pride in the decision you made, it is one most men can't handle, and the training you will receive, will help you in your life as a military member and after. It takes real men to make a choice such as you did, and I want to thank you personally for taking on this commitment. Be proud and I wish you the best.

Basic training won't be fun, but if you survive this initial part of your commitment you'll be fine!

Again, congrats on joining the "brotherhood"

Congrats and thank you.

I did basic in August too, at Ft. Campbell, Ky. Hot and hot and hot and miserable. Wouldn't have missed it for the world.

I still remember so much from that experience. It's like nothing else you've ever done. It'll be over before you know it and you'll be a better man for it.

Good luck.

You were standing in either the street, or on a sidewalk, looking over your right shoulder

Good luck with both the army and with school

You didn't have to post that you're a former Marine since you asked a question that he already posted in some depth on, that was a dead giveaway......

That is his right shoulder in the picture, but it looks like it was taken in a mirror, so then it would realistically be his left shoulder, but visually his right.

Either way you win.

TI,
Thank you and good luck.

If it was taken in a mirror, then why can't you see the photographer and/or the camera?

Infantry or Arty ? Man you sure do want to start at the bottom huh? Going through Infantry training at Benning in the middle of the summer is no joke but at least it will give you a small feeling of what the desert heat is like. Go Airborne if possible cause you don't want to be a grunt and a leg as being one is bad enough but having those wings makes it bearable. It will be miserable at first but when it's over you can count it as one of your lifes memorable experiences. Good Luck .

P.S. Shave your head before you go , they love that. Also make sure early on that your Drill Instructor knows who you are by standing out in the crowd.

When your done with basic your actually gonna look back at it and realize it was kinda fun I'm glad I could help you with your decision a little bit and am proud of your decision.

He has my address so I'll keep everyone updated and send back some printed out threads/articles on how the Browns are doing. You know, chronicling our undefeated season

Good job TI, I had a opportunity to possbily go and pay football at West Point and didnt go for it and still regret it to this day. Stand tall and be proud to serve this nation and make sure you fly those Browns colors wherever you go.
