Ok, so the woman is dragging me to her Mom's house in Dayton this Saturday afternoon

So naturally I figured, gambling Saturday night in Indiana

Anyone know the closest casino's to Dayton. Any tips or suggestions would be swell.

Yeah, stay away from the slots. With the economy so sluggish, seems even the Casinos are taking measures by tightening up the slot machines.

I usually go to Argosy when I visit my brother in Cincy. Not a bad place; there is another one up the road that I've never been to. From Dayton you'd go down 75 to 275; there are tons of signs for it so it's hard to miss. It's probably about and hour or so away from Dayton.

Have fun!

Yes it is; when I visit my parents in Toledo my dad and I normally go to Detroit. It took them about 20 years to figure out that all of their money was going to Windsor and they finally legalized gambling - hopefully Ohio will one day do the same.

With out a doubt, I'm planning on a trip to Mountaineer as soon as I finish and get paid for this program I'm working on atm.

Hundreds of millions leave Ohio every year. They say it's evil and against God or gambling prey's on the financially irresponsible, but guess what, we still do it but we are giving our money to other states.

Not any help to you, but my wife and I went to Wheeling Island this past weekend. I like it much better than Argosy. We probably won't go to Argosy anymore. Wheeling even has the bonus of greyhound racing.

I also agree Ohio needs to allow gambling in Ohio. Maybe start off small allow casinos in Cincy, Columbus, Cleveland, and one more in southeast Ohio. What could go wrong? Or even right (millions of money staying in Ohio).

Where I live on Sandusky bay there is a old cement factory. It would be the perfect place for a casino. You could arrive by boat or land. Sure it would take some remodeling but what the hey it would be worth it if someone was to get it past the politicians. Its also within sight of Cedar Point.

Yeah. ive been to wheeling wasnt very impressed with it. Does argosy have table games, mainly roulette/blackjack? I was also upset that the video blackjack at wheeling only had a $2 max bet.

Looks like argosy/ and rising sun are closest to dayton 1.5hrs away thats farther than i thought.

I live near Toledo and go to Detroit about 2-3 times per month to play poker. It's insane how many Ohio plates I see on the streets and in the parking garages. Who knows what the exact figure is but if 20% of Detroit's casino revenue comes from Ohioans, that's a big chunk of change NOT being spent in Ohio. Now consider all the other people going to Windsor, Indiana and West Virginia and we've got a boat load of money leaving the state. The state government and the people who keep voting this stuff down need to take a look at the big picture here.

I guess things are going so smooth and we have so much work and money in Ohio we don't need gambling.( Heavy Scarasm). Actually I think they are worried about crime and poor people spending money they can't afford.

If poor people are going to the casinos then it's their own fault. At least they'd be spending the money in Ohio.

YES! Which is why it is 1000X better than wheeling. Black Jack, 3 card poker, Caribbean Stud, Let It Ride, Boston 5, Paigo Poker, Roulette, Craps, Texas Hold-em (against the house, not sure if they opened any "real" hold-em tables), and a few more.

I like to go and bet on the Greyhounds every once in a while, but slots and electronic card games don't do much for me. To each his own.

FYI... Wheeling (and the other WV casinos) added tables within about the past year. I haven't been to Wheeling Island or MTR yet, but when I went to Argosy, I was not really impressed.

WV decided to allow tables right after PA announced that they were opening slots/video houses.

Now if only OH could come up with a good plan, like authorizing 3-5 casino license and auction them off to the highest bidders. Then have the juridictions/counties vote to allow the casino in thier city/county/township/whatever.

But no, we continue to have the "make a couple guys really rich" proposals come through Ohio.

That's good to know about Wheeling. I'm not a huge fan of Argosy, I prefer MGM in Detroit but it's further away. I can go through Wheeling on my way back from work related trips sometimes so I'll need to check it out!

For us, the only reason we go is for her to play the slots. I'm not much of a gambler anymore (lost $1500 betting on college b-ball in one day) I'm pretty much the driver, drink fetcher, ash tray finder, food go getter, hold the machine so I can pee guy.

well, I took another posters advice and am going to Rising sun Indiana. Looks like a quaint little town on the Ohio river just south of the Argosy Casino. We even got a room a couple blocks form the casino, next to the river in a colonial house for 89 bucks, sweet

anyone ever go to the Grand Victoria casino in rising sun, indiana?

I believe that is the one that I went to a couple of years ago... drove right past Kentucky speedway! If it is the spa was nice too! Beware of the tables... the change the minimums right in the middle of you playing... I was at a roulette table and it changed from a 10 minimum to a 20 min without any warning or even the dealer telling us.

oky doky, well rising sun was pretty nice. The casino was kinda small, so i can see it getting busy, but I liked the atmosphere on the boat. It wasnt as loud as your classic casino, which I like, overall I would say definitely a better expereince than wheeling. We plyed slots on our first $5 dollars for an hour and a half, so that was cool.

Then I got drunk and decided to play blackjack, lost 4 out of the forst 5 hands and was out $40 real quick, quite the turn from the first 1.5 hours of gaming. In the end I lost 80, according to my girlfriend, I caught "the fever".

Our hotel was super nice, right on the river, 12ft ceilings in the room, cool courtyard with a guy playing guitar, an old school bar on the basement that used to be apart of the underground railroad, def suggest "The Courtyard" if anyone is staying in Rising Sun.

thanks for the suggestion michelle

Sounds fun! Glad you enjoyed it. Losing $80 really isn't that bad.
