The viral marketing game is about to hit its peak. TDK merch is seemingly everywhere. On clothes, on toys, on pizzas, on candy, on cereal and microwavable foods.
The reviews from early screenings have been beyond positive. Some are comparing it to the Empire Strikes Back and the Godfather Part 2 in terms of philosophical depth and brilliance of the art of film.
And...it's selling presale tickets at a rapid pace. Less than 3 weeks to go...this is going to be BIG.

Batman fans anxious to get a glimpse of the late Heath Ledger’s portrayal of the Joker are snatching up tickets online more than three weeks before The Dark Knight’s July 17 premiere.
According to Fandango, tickets for the upcoming “The Dark Knight” are selling out, even though the film is still three weeks away from being released in theaters. Lots of midnight screenings have sold out and many theaters are now adding 3am showings to meet the demand.
“We are currently seeing a surge in advance ticket sales,” said Ted Hong, vice president of marketing for Fandango, which first began selling tickets for Dark Knight last Friday. “It makes sense that there’s a rush for tickets — it looks action-packed and film fans are anxious to see Heath Ledger.”
When Fandango polled members back in March to determine which summer blockbusters its customers were most interested in, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull took first place, with Dark Knight coming in second. However, the scramble for advance Dark Knight tickets is currently outpacing Indy 4’s presale numbers.
Exhibitor Relations box office analyst Jeff Bock said he thinks the presale surge was to be expected.
“This movie comes in riding a wave of hype [Batman Begins] didn’t,” said Bock. He also attributes the rush to fans anxious to see Ledger portray Batman’s warped nemesis in what could be the actor’s last on-screen performance. Ledger died in January of an overdose of prescription drugs at age 28.
Joel Cohen, executive vice president at ticketing hub MovieTickets.com, said Dark Knight is doing remarkably well, even though advance sales for Nolan’s previous bat-flick, Batman Begins, were practically nonexistent in 2005.
“It’s tracking much stronger than Spider-Man 3 at the same time in the sales cycle,” he said. Director Sam Raimi’s second Spidey sequel went on last year to set the record for best opening weekend ever.
A massive viral-marketing campaign for Dark Knight, along with a glowing advance review by Rolling Stone film critic Peter Travers, is adding fuel to bat-fire.
Exhibitor Relations’ Bock predicts the Warner Bros. film could push well beyond $100 million in its opening weekend. In May, Marvel’s superhero flick Iron Man garnered $102.1 million during its opening weekend, while Steven Spielberg’s Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull pulled in $100.1 million.
The question on the tip of every fanboy and girl’s tongue is, will this film be able to outpace Spider-Man 3’s record-shattering opening weekend of $151 million?
“That record would be really tough to break,” said Bock. “But we’re expecting really big things.”

I've been foaming at the mouth for this ever since we saw the "calling card" at the end of Begins, opening weekend.
It's hard for a movie geek, but I'm going to try and avoid all hype and spoilers for this thing the best I can between now & opening night. I'm shocked that I've gone this far w/out seeing pictures of the other villain . . .
I can't wait to watch this movie....but i refuse to read or see any more trailers about it....i don't want to build it up too much and then be dissapointed...
Some of you may remember that last summer, I mentioned on here that I had finally seen Batman Begins on Cable.. and I wondered why I hadn't heard anything about it prior.. I just happened to catch it on the tube and really liked it a lot.

Christian Bale is by far the best Batman in any movies ever made on the subject.. Hands down.. I can't wait to see this one..

so they'll have 12a and 3a showings? What after that? Will they then be done until the noon matinees? Or will they have 9a and 11a showings?
That's insane. It's just a Batman movie--I mean, I like Batman, especially "Batman Begins" and the original '89 movie but I'll wait until it comes out on DVD--it's cheaper and the hype will die down by November.
I remember "Batman Returns" in '92 with Michelle Pfeiffer as a hot Catwoman--at the time we didn't have much money, so to see it on the big screen and NOT at Loewmann's Plaza was a big deal. For those of you not in the area Loewmann's Plaza shows movies 3-4 months out of date at really cheap ticket prices.

Christian Bale is by far the best Batman in any movies ever made on the subject.. Hands down.. I can't wait to see this one..
I hadn't seen Batman Begins until a few months ago when I got back into this whole Batman thing, but I've read up on it. BB didnt have nearly the hype it deserved because of the colossal failure that was Batman and Robin (wanna see a trainwreck? rent it). B&R was so bad they scrapped that franchise and started anew with Begins...
But like The Incredible Hulk doing worse in the Box Office than Hulk did (even though the two movies aren't in the same timeline)...BB suffered because of B&R's bad word of mouth. But the movie did well with DVD sales and rentals...meaning the film was positively received...it "had legs" in other words.
Fortunately, TDK is living up to the hype and thensome.
To use a football analogy (so Asian understands ), Batman Begins was like the 2007 Browns...didn't expect much but shocked the world. TDK is what the 2008 Browns will HOPEFULLY be like, expected to be great, and live up to the hype.
Kevin Smith (a nerd and comic book guy) got a sneak preview...and raved about it on his myspace blog.
Said Heath was amazing...not so much performing the role...but becoming it...that the film did come in at almost 3 hours...but it left you wanting more....in a very good way.
I didn't make it through Batman begins since I found it boring, so I doubt I'll watch the sequel to a movie I still don't understand why so many people liked, but to each their own.
On a serious note, I must be missing the hype, the last movie I recalled being hyped was the Indiana Jones movie, but this Batman I haven't heard much about, I guess I missed all this hype it is receiving.
Two-Face hasn't been revealed yet, but if it's anything close to the leaked concept art...well...I don't think I can post it without taking an involuntary vacation.
I like how they are introducing Harvey Dent before he becomes Two-Face. My two favorite Batman villains are both in this movie, but one of them is a good guy in it.
Anyway, I'm really excited for this movie. I'll be seeing it opening day with my dad.

I wouldn't go that far, but I loved Batman Begins and I enjoyed Batman: The Animated Series. Both are very deep and stay true to the source material.
I had to read The Dark Knight Returns for an english class and it sort of got me back into this thing again.
Besides, this movie is gonna be big. You'll see.
Do you remember the '89 and '92 Batmans? "Batman" and "Batman Returns"...good stuff. Batman Begins was okay--there was another one...Batman and Robin and Batman Forever...after awhile I lost track of them all. I like military (We Were Soldiers, Full Metal Jacket) romance (Pretty Woman, The Notebook), teen drama and regular drama (Good Will Hunting, St. Elmo's Fire, Sixteen Candles) and political thrillers (Good Morning Vietnam, Wag the Dog) usually.
Of course, the football movies as well (Remember the Titans, The Longest Yard, etc.)
Not sure how you can compare military movies to a comic book super hero (which calling Batman a superhero is another topic) but I have seen just abou every Batman flick, and not one was worth the time.
Interesting story line? Maybe at times, but Batman is the farthest character I would consider a hero, but then we are talking comic book characters so none (especially Batman) live up to there possible potential.
One day I hope Hollywood can be original again, but since I don't see that happening in the future were stuck with crap such as this and many other flicks since film makers forgot about being original.
The only reason I see this film getting any credit is because Heath Ledger died, and people will flock to see his last performance.
Who really cares Heath (which I have no remorse because he killed himself is a worthless brokeback junkie) is dead and so is the plots Batman can go by, enjoy this one, if you need, but this will end up being considered a joke just as the rest of the Batman movies have.

First of all, this movie is much more than a "comic book film," just like Batman Begins.
Secondly...Batman has quite possibly the most depth out of any "superhero" amongst the mainstream characters.
I agree calling Batman a superhero is an oxymoron, FYI, but thats what makes him great. A man driven by something that makes him bring out the absolute maximums of himself to make a difference...isn't that what America is about? He's the ultimate detective.
And...I don't know what your beef is with Batman Begins, but that's everything that Batman is about. There are many layers of philosophical sophistication in the movie. I'ts not a "popcorn superhero flick" and neither is TDK for that matter. Yeah there's action, but this ain't a shallow character like Superman. Batman is literally novel-worthy in its own right.
Don't even try to compare BB to Batman and Robin or anything before that...they're not in the same continuity and quite honestly are a bastardization of the source material, and that includes Batman 89 and Batman Returns.

How, is he going to use mental telepathy? I don't plan on seeing this movie so how is Brokeback Ledger gonna show me anything. I just don't understand the love allot of people have for Batman, he really isn't a superhero, plus I grew up watching Batman, I am at the age where it's now pretty damn old.

HMMMI thought it all went downhill from Nicholson as the Joker. Devito as the Penguin was pretty good but nobody could compare to Old Jack as the Joker, he made that movie.

Compared to Forever and Batman and Robin, Batman 89 and Returns are like Titanic compared to those. Of course, in Burton's defense, he was the originator of the Batman flicks that kept to the tone of the comics unlike the 1960's crap. But they still lacked the sophistication and intelligence of Begins. Begins and TDK are equally cerebral as much as they are action movies.
Still...for the overall depth of the script, they don't even come close to Begins. When watching Begins, sometimes you forget it's a superhero flick...it could have easily been some normal guy who made himself a vigilante by putting on military armor without looking like a bat.
As far as Heath goes, I believe his death was accidental. I'd never condone sleeping pills though.

That line is pretty classless. First, to devalue the death of anyone is pretty classless. If he killed himself or not, it's sad he died. It's sad when anyone decides to kill themselves, or accidentally kills themselves. And to throw in a "brokeback" reference? Are you calling him gay? Is there something wrong with that?
To not like the movie is fine, but that line just makes no sense to me and comes across pretty horrible, IMO.

Heath Ledger died as the result of acute intoxication by the combined effects of oxycodone, hydrocodone, diazepam, temazepam, alprazolam and doxylamine. That is no accident, though his fans might try to claim it is, I call that an over dose, plain and simple.
