Wow, Brett Favre unretires, wreaks havoc with the organization in Green Bay, dominates the sports news, screws with the Packer fan base, possibly weakens the Jets, potentially jeopardizes his own health and blows up Chad Pennington's job all in one fell swoop. Way to go, Brett.

Perhaps they'll get lucky and he won't show up to camp unless they rename the team, The New York Bretts.

Wasn't Penningtons job already blown up by a shoulder injury and Kellen Clemens?

I don't get why this is gonna be so bad for Favre. It was only a couple years ago that the Jets were 10-6. They have some players around Favre, a legit #1 WR, a proven RB, solid TE play; they have some decent players on the line. A first round Center and a top 4 pick at LT.

I honestly hope that New York gets a 2nd round offer from Minnesota and ships him off to there.

It was really a crap shoot with Pennington and Clemens, Farve is a better QB than both. Chad gets released, Clemens starts til Favre is ready, then holds the clipboard for another season.

I do not think the Jets are contenders. There o-line is improved, yes. But Thomas Jones is on the downside of his career, and the defense is not that great.

Just clickin,

Not sure why the Jets did this, Favre will probably retire for good in another year or 2 and it'll be that long before the Jets are good enough to make some noise so they'll have to start all over at QB again.

Again, Favre has always been a team first guy his entire career.

You are entitled to yuor opinion, and I honor that. But when an incumbent QB flat out says it's "not his job" to mentor the rookie QB or show him the ropes, then I cannot see him as a "team first" guy.

i'm with ya Tyler, Jets adding Farve with thier other off season add on's atleast puts them into Wild Card contention. Lets not forget the Jets have been building thier team much like the Browns, they added two o-line starters last year in the draft, added Fanacca from Pitt, and have added a couple soild D-linemen in the off season, adding Farve gives the offense some respectability, along with a QB who common admit it, even on one of Bretts worst days as a pro he's still better than anything the Jets got. Pennington is and should be gone, he needs our of NY, Kelley Clemens common how would you feel knowing he's yoour QB going into the season. Jets are a legit Wild Card team now, there not gonna win the division but they will compete.

None of that seems to matter anymore now that Brett is a Jet....

CoachB,, please understand,, I don't think either of us will ever really know what the heck happened in GB with Brett.. I'm pretty confident that both sides have an argument, but as is almost always the case, the truth is somewhere in the middle...

Yanno.. If all this is happening, and he's behind the Jets bench, thats all the TV will talk about. I'd rather see and hear the Browns game and not the Favre saga

Ackk..

Just was on the phone with my brother. I said the same thing..... I hope that there's no talk about Favre during the game, but you know that's all we're going to hear.

Up until the last couple olf days, NOBODY OUTSIDE OF WISCONSIN GAVE A DAMN ABOUT FAVRE (and maybe Mississippi). Now you can add New York, well the fans that aren't Giant fans. Otherwise, I'm sure I speak for many, many people when I say, we don't want to turn on any sports-related show like NFL Total Access and Sportscenter and see a majority, if not all, of the show dedicated to Favre.

Are you serious? Everyone gives a damn about Brett Favre. He's Brett Favre!

I'm gonna enjoy the circus atmosphere tonight. But I think this is his career graveyard...

He has 3 weeks to learn an entirely new scheme when he's played in the WCO for 16 years. Three weeks to know thousands of plays like habit. It's not going to happen.

It's going to be ugly, sadly, and it's a shame.

By the way, a lot of you need to lighten up on this. It's Brett Favre, afterall.

Millions of people. Favre is one of the greatest QB's of all time who is virtually beloved by everyone.

There's a reason ESPN is covering this so much, and it's not cuz of market size like Yankees/Sox cuz he played in freaking Green Bay.

I think Favre gets all the coverage due to the fact that he is a first ballot HOF who owns many of the major records at his position.

As are a lot of people. Basically, channel John Madden's voice when you hear me talk about Favre. I'm partially being satirical.

Still, I think the Packers hosed him. I think a lot of Browns fans feel otherwise because Browns fans are so quick to turn on players for being "disloyal to the organization." Which IMO is justified because we had so many turds in years past and we haven't had a guy like Favre in a long, LONG time. Plus, we tend to think the FO can do no wrong when it comes to handling players, even in the Botch days.

Actually for me it has nothing to do with loyalty or disloyalty. It has to do with behavior. I'm not saying the Packers organization is without fault. But it is painfully clear to me that Favre is too sensitive and has an over-inflated sense of his own self-worth, and those two things drive his actions. I can't stand people like that.

It all started a few years back with the Rodgers incident. That started to reveal some cracks into the foundation of the real Brett Favre, something that no one expected. But because he had become a Teflon man on the level of a Michael Jordan, it didn't stick ... just kind of rolled off. But it was a sign of the type of guy he is.

I can't stand the guy. He has proven to be very opposite of what I thought he was.

Every pre season someone or something becomes a circus, circus sells, this year it's Farve, last year it was TO, 2 years ago it was....Well TO ..it's always something or someone the media makes into a big circus it sells thier papers, sells thier magazines and makes for easy TV.

Nobody really knows what was said or done behind closed doors unless you were thier, I dont care if Bretts wife comes out and says this or that, Ya cant blame it all on Brett nor can you blame it all on the Packers,

I do find it kinda strange for people who say, i'm tired of hearing about it on sport center or on TV. Well me too, but when I see it coming or it's on I turn the channel or shut the TV off, I dont sit and listen and still complain about it. ?

will people be talking about it tonight at the game, sure they will media will exploit it and people talk, they will sit in the stands and say I'm so tired of hearing about Brett, but than will sit there all night and B-i-t- h & moan about hearing about it, but in reality there the ones talking about it, people love to complain, love to talk about somebody else life, or how somebody else is doing someting wrong, not like they have never done something wrong before, To me Brett stood up for what He wanted, People really do that in all forms of life these day, just they dont get the media attention Brett & the Packers did, Packers stood up for what they wanted, There allowed, they signed his check, they employeed him, nothing wrong with that. Where everything goes wrong is when people start talking and when they seem to know the REAL TRUth BEHIND THE STORY and really dont know squat, they just think they do. So if ya dont wanna hear about Brett tonight, don't talk about Brett tonight, it's not about Brett anyway, it's about our Browns.....I like Brett, always will, but I bleed Orange & Brown.

LOL I agree 100% DnD.. My daddy used to say, Poop or get off the pot. Favre finally got kicked off the pot and now he's screaming bloody murder.

Maybe he thought that he was such an Icon that the Pack would just fold and let him back in and all would be forgiven and forgotten..

Somebody in Packerland grew a set..

"Giving up football was one of the hardest things I ever had to do, and when I drive by practice there's nothing I want to do more than put the pads on and practice."

Ummm...you're about 21or so. Trust me its different when you are 40 - and you know you will break all over the place if you play...lol

And 50 unless you are in prime shape and still playing team sports - very few but I got a friend or two. Thats when the itch finally goes away. Cause the great arm you once had...just don't work anymore The Speed is all in one gear.

But as was explained very well. Its the Adoration of the fans. Sorry, maybe yes, a lot of kids got a little taste in HS but no where like in the NFL. Thats a big itch to scratch and Favre is scratching. I still say he'll show up for 2 weeks with the Jets and then QUIT!! The Drama won't surprise me...lol The Jets...will then have to commit to Clemens and they get another good draft pick

Jules - thank you for that article. Since this thread should die soon I'll add this humor (at least to me).

"It’s not helpful at all. You’ve got fans that are die-hard Brett fans, and they’ve put that above the team.”

As I'm reading that I'm like saying to myself with a *L* I betcha all the BQ guys are thinking...those are the DA Crew. And all the DA guys are thinking...thats the Brady Bunch (don't know why the DA crew don't use that instead of Brady Brats - its just a tad less insulting) to the tee. lol

Well at least all agree on something

I think the irony in all the Favre bashing on here is that if we had the same QB situation we had 3 yrs ago how many of the same posters bashing him would be asking what it would take to get him here.

I am probably more sick of hearing about it then most (since I have to get it locally also) I do however think that the Packers are making a huge mistake. There is noway you can tell me that Rodgers is better for the team then Favre. We also aren't talking about a team that is in the middle of a rebuilding year. They were one game away from the Super Bowl and they lost to the Champs.

He holds all of the records for a reason. I for one would have loved to see #4 in Brown and Orange for the last 16 years. It would have been far better than what we had to endure.

And I can guarantee that they never put another retired player on their cover, lol

Green Bay definitely got the better side of this deal I believe, by far.
My prediction is that Favre is gonna tank SOOOOOOOO badly that it will be epic.

It's funny, what was it, just last season or the one before, when Brett was holding up the Pack as to whether he'd retire or not, there were a small number on this board that wanted us to trade something/anything for him... That was one or two years ago.

No, I don't want him either. Too much money, no future (on the field) at his current age, and too much of a distraction over all.. I have NO IDEA what the Jets were thinking..

Perhaps, if they feel the only piece of the puzzle is a stud QB and they get to the Superbowl,, yeah, maybe.. But I think that from all I read, they aren't really there yet. One must wonder what's up in NY?

The trade includes a clause that if the Jets trade Brett to Minnesota, they have to give up 3 1st round draft picks to Green Bay. No way they do that. Now trading back down to Tampa bay, would be possible, but I don't think the Jets are comfortable going into the season with just Clemens at QB.

I think you're right on there PPE. Almost luckily for us, RAC inherited such a train wreck that we didn't have that fleeting glory early on.

Those Jets fans and organization are chomping at the bit, and maybe they're thinking that getting someone like Favre will be all they need to push on to the next level.

Personally, I just don't see it. Let's assume that Favre starts from Day 1 of the regular season. Here's their schedule:

At Miami
New England
At San Diego
Arizona
Cincinnati
At Oakland
Kansas City
At Buffalo
St. Louis
At New England
At Tennessee
Denver
At San Francisco
Buffalo
At Seattle
Miami

That certainly doesn't look like a hard schedule, but like I've always said, that's why you play the games. And, say they make the playoffs. The AFC playoffs ain't no NFC playoffs. They'd be potentially matching up against teams like New England, Indy, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Jacksonville, San Diego instead of Chicago (seriously? Rex Grossman?), the Giants (who I just am not sold on, even if they did win the Super Bowl). Dallas is about the only NFC team that is tough IMO (call me crazy).

It's a damn shame really.. Mangini isn't a dumb coach.. not at all really. But if what you say is indeed the truth, then he's panicking just like Butch Davis did here when he went after Garcia.. The difference being that Garcia has had NO WHERE near the career that Favre has had. Of course, he didn't cost as much either. Just Daviss job

I wonder how Tarvaris Jackson feels about the three first round pick clause and the Packers perception of his ability?

ESPN is reporting that Pennington will be released today. We DON'T gotta get that guy,

Why have you lost respect for the Packers,,, all they did was protect thier interests... It was a smart move.

I think this was a great trade for the JETS. Their QB situation was an absolute mess. Pennington and Clements duking it out? That has to inspire some confidence in the fanbase .

This at least gives them a fighting a chance and it is a move consistent with everything else they've done this offseason. I think it was good move for the team, and if I were a JETS fan, I'd be happy with it.

BTW, Mangini reminds me of a little fat kid. I have no idea how that guy motivates. I would like to see some behind the scenes footage of him talking to the team. That commercial on NFL Network where they have a collection of coaches talking about 'worrying about the NOW' finishes up with him. I swear I laugh everytime I see him and hear him talk.

I don't know, Tyler, I was just going by what I read, that Pennington was still in the mix to start.

Bad for Favre? Welcome to the AFC, old man.

Seriously though... this will be interesting to watch.
