I think Favre will do well with the Jets. The Jets invested heavily in the OL this off season, Mangold is solid, and Ferguson is having a terrific camp. I think the D has been improved quite a bit as well. I'm not saying they are front runners, but they will be much improved and a key ingredient to that improvement will be having one of the top QBs ever to play the game and first ballot HOFer under center. Favre can still get t done.

They are a tough crowd New Yorkers. I guarentee if Brett doesnt do well there, those fans will bash him just as bad as they did Pennington.

hey coach,
in some ways its a lot like when the media/fans were hyped about the Montana to KC trade--well he took them to the AFC title game after beating the Oilers in '93--a very good 12-4 team--but the Bills for some reason got to the SB that year. It would've been sweet to see a Montana-led KC team against Aikman's Cowboys in the SB.

That's a pretty good comarison, in that it has almost exactly the same scenarios at play. That's all I'll say on the board, but you are right on with that.

He's certainly not going to be the loved and beloved Brett he was in Green Bay... I wonder how he'll deal with that... Playing football may not taste as sweet.

They said during the broadcast that they've sold 30,000 Favre/Jets jerseys today alone. Doesnt' sound like they will hate him. When he plays, the'll love him even more.

All while the jets continued to pay him millions of dollars for sitting on the bench.

They are just over excited to buy jerseys with a HOFer`s name thats NOT Joe Namath. Trust me, if Favre bombs they will go back to their Namath throwbacks in no time

Why have you lost respect for the Packers,,, all they did was protect thier interests... It was a smart move.

how did they protect their interests? rather, what interests did they protect? they apparently don't need Favre, right? their team is better without him, right?

smart in the short-term i suppose. now they might not get their collective teeth kicked in by the Viks. but stupid and damaging in the long-term, as it pretty much is an admission that Brett is too good to risk playing against, insinuating that an Aaron Rodgers-led Pack can't beat a Favre-led Minnesota squad. that pretty much means that--as they see it--Favre is the better qb; shocker to all who have followed the game over the past 16 years, i know.

the Packers brass tried to manipulate this so that they could save as much face as possible, because we all know Brett Favre is probably the best player the game has ever seen. his body of work speaks for itself. to have chosen AR as the starter over him is silliness. they just wanted to have their big time draft pick under center to make themselves look like they made a good decision picking him up in the first place, in hopes of putting off being in the hot seat for a little longer. unfortunately, i guess that's the product of the win-now, what-have-you-done-for-me-lately state of the league. and if they truly believe that AR was the best man for the job, they should have shown their confidence in their decision and let Favre pursue a trade with whomever he pleased and rolled with the consequences. or at least not have tried to buy him back into retirement and beg him not to show at camp. this was simply bad business on the part of Thompson and McCarthy. and disrespectful to Favre.

and you can say, "but it's a business and they run it like a business, blah, blah, blah. . ." but i'll call shenanigans. the players are expected to show class on the field, off the field, show loyalty to their respective franchises, etc. they get dumped on when they want more money because they had a breakout season; they're seen as greedy bloodsuckers out for their payday. but the front offices can use the players to cash in and toss out a guy who plucked your franchise out of the long dwelled-in cellar and placed it on the marquee and is still to this day your best option at qb, yet, they're just protecting their interests, right?

bottom line: they handled it with no class.

You sure it wasn't three thousand? I thought I heard 3,000.

Just found this:

Quote:

The first Favre jerseys were being manufactured at Reebok's plant in Indianapolis, Indiana, on Thursday. NFLShop.com, the NFL's official online store, received more than 3,200 orders and counting, setting a single-day sales record and single-day single-player jersey sales record.

I was going to post that yesterday - the number I heard was 3000. But honestly, unless people are using my credit card, I don't care if they sold 3 or 3 billion.

He's still got to do something on the field - and I think he'll have a hard time doing that. Why?

His mechanics have gone down hill - he tries to play too fancy too often. He's in a totally new offense - new plays......AND he's got no experience with his receivers - or they have no experience with him, however you want to put it.

I watched the game again. Donovan said 30,000 and Bernie later said 34,000. That's where I got the numbers from.

His problems won't be mechanical or deteriorating skills...

It'll be learning a new offense and getting timing down with receivers in 3 weeks.

I just don't see it happening.

Gregg Easterbrook tried to rip Favre apart in his latest column on ESPN ... I did find this part pretty funny though:

If Favre can retire then nonretire every year, why not every week? Below is a weekly agenda for the Jets' season:

Sunday immediately following game: Favre tells reporters he's "considering" retirement. Says he will come back if all networks agree that cameras will show no player except him.

Monday morning: Favre's agent says client feels "not appreciated" because New York City has not been renamed Brettopolis. Holds tearful farewell news conference, says "I would never go back on my word unless there was something in it for me." Thanks teammates for not coming between him and cameras. Returns to Mississippi.

Monday evening: Hosts vigil in Hattiesburg tent. Tells Oak Grove High School players, "Always be a self-sacrificing team player."

Tuesday morning: Invites hundreds of reporters and cameramen to his farm to see him happily working the land.

Tuesday lunchtime. Tires of working the land.

Wednesday morning. Calls ESPN, New York Times to plant comeback rumor.

Wednesday afternoon. Calls ESPN, New York Times to deny comeback rumor.

Thursday morning. Demands immediate reinstatement. Grants "exclusive" interviews to ESPN, ABC, CBS, NBC, NFLN, CNN, MSNBC, BBC, Fox College Sports/Pacific, CSPAN-2, Planet Green, Oxygen, Toon, Home Preview Channel, HBO Signature HD, SOAPNet, Canal Plus and the MHz4 Nigerian TV Authority.

Thursday evening. Demands New Jersey annex Delaware and give it to him, also demands USM change its sports nickname to the Golden Fours. United States Senate stages all-night emergency session to debate Favre return.

Friday morning. Congress offers $600 billion bailout if Favre returns. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid explains, "We don't care who gets the bailout, we just like to give away borrowed money. Hey Nancy, they want more. OK, $800 billion."

Friday afternoon. United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon flies to Hattiesburg in the space shuttle to accompany Favre on his return to New Jersey. Manhattan casting agency hires hundreds of extras to pretend to be adoring Favre fans at arrival.

Saturday morning. Favre attends walk-through, disabled children allowed to touch his garments.

Sunday morning. All other players' names removed from program in order to print Brett Favre in 72-point type across every page. Governor of New Jersey washes Favre's feet during player introductions.

Postgame: Favre hints game may have been his last.
