I'm trying to find good classic rock music because I believe that Classic Rock is the best music out there. I know many of the good bands/artists, but I don't know what songs of theirs are good.

My dad is a pretty big music fan, but he doesn't really get into the harder stuff, which I like, so he is only so much help. I think I know all of the good songs by bands like Boston, Journey, Bruce Springsteen, REO Speedwagon, and CCR, but I don't know as much about say, ACDC, Led Zepplin, and Aerosmith. Any help would be appreciated.

Anything from those three is going to be good If your not sure about the songs, buy their greatest hits CD's. Check out ZZ top as well.

I cant believe I dont know how to spell this but Lynard Skynard has to be in every Classic Rock collection.

2 great movie soundtracks for classic rock, "Dazed and Confused", and maybe the best of all-time for classic rock "Forrest Gump".

I personally think LedZep is the greatest band ever. They often get out voted by the likes of the Beatles and Stones, but they are my personal number 1.

Their first six albums are downright amazing. Their seventh album - Presence - they started to show some signs that the run was coming to an end, although there is a very iconic song on there called Achilles Last Stand ... that song could have gone on any of their previous albums and fit right in.

I'd start with their second album - Led Zeppelin II - and their sixth album - Physical Graffiti. They are considered their best albums by many. Just about every single song on both albums rocks. On Zeppelin II, What Is and What Should Never Be is awesome and Ten Years Gone on Physical Graffiti is another one of my favorites.

Check these out. Hope you like them as much as I do.

The Who...One of the best bands ever...

"Quadrophenia" is my personal favorite album; not as popular like "Tommy" or "Who's Next". "Live at Leeds" is also a must have.

The "Blow" soundtrack has some excellent tracks on it. Also, when it comes to classic rock, some bands and musicians to look into:

Bob Dylan, especially his "Blonde on Blonde" album

Audience, The "House on the Hill" album

Warren Zevon, I am partial to "Werewolves of London" and "Lawyers, Guns, and Money."

Lynyrd Skynyrd, try listening to all their hits "The Ballad of Curtis Lowe," "Tuesdays Gone," "Simple Man," "Free Bird." And there are many more.

Bob Seger, listen to "Ramblin Man"

David Bowie, The "Ziggy Stardust" album is great. Plus he has many other hits like "Fame," "Changes." And many others.

The Doors, Listen to everything they produced.

Bob Marley, innumerable great songs.

The Rolling Stones, "Sympathy for the Devil" plus many others.

The Who

Velvet Underground

Lou Reed, "Sweet Jane" and "Walk on the Wild Side."

These are just off the top of my head. For other input try looking up Rolling Stone Magazines 500 best rock songs ever.

Bob Marley isnt classic rock. Just good stoner music from the same era.

If you bring up The Doors for classic rock, you have to bring up Pink Floyd.

Maybe it's because there was some talk of Randy Bachman releasing a polka album.

I'm not sure if you'd consider it Classic rock, but you just can't plain go wrong with The Chambers Brothers song "Time Has Come Today".

Also, every Classic Rock collection needs a little "In A Gadda Da Vida" by Iron Butterfly. Can't go wrong with 15 minutes of organ solo!

Smoke on the Water by Deep Purple is a classic.

Frankenstein by Edgar Winter is a classic.

Neil Young has some GREAT songs. Cowgirl in the Sand is one of my all-time favorites.

Also, check out Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band. Hollywood Nights and Night Moves are really classics.

"White Room", "Sunshine of Your Love", and especially "Tales of Brave Ulysses" by Cream are fantastic.

ELO (the Electric Light Orchestra) had some good songs. "Do Ya" is a good one to turn up loud.

Someone mentioned Jethro Tull. I have a ton of his songs. "Cross-Eyed Mary" is a great one. "Locomotive Breath" is also a "blaster."

Don't forget such classics as "Oye Como Va", "Black Magic Woman", and "Evil Ways" by Santana.

And, no classic rock collection would be complete without that little band from Texas. Yes, I'm talking about ZZ Top!!

I guess to "stretch" this thread a little further, Would anyone disagree with me that the 70's was the best decade ever for music whether you liked Rock, R&B or Country? I believe the 70's was the BEST DECADE for all that mattered in all aspects from sports to news, etc...Give me some feedback if you don't mind sharing my friends.....

I was very fortunate enough to see them in 2001 and 2002 during their reunion tour. Had 1st and 2nd row seats for both shows respectively. Burton Cummings and Randy Bachman were there along with Garry Peterson on drums, Donnie McDougall on guitar and Bill Wallace on bass. They did not disappoint, to say the very least. There is a DVD called "Runnin' Back Thru Canada" which is their first concert together in their hometown of Winnipeg, Manitoba...worth the money and more.

BTW, if you ever see a band that's called the Guess Who on tour, it's only got the original bass player Jim Kale along with a cast of unknowns. Don't waste your money.

J/C... Not sure exactly what era you're looking for but for me anything before 1990 is classic rock. I love it too and here's a few that I would definitely suggest:

Styx - Renegade, Come Sail Away

Foreigner - Jukebox Hero, Feels like the First Time, Cold as Ice, I Want to Know What Love Is

Asia - Heat of the Moment

Billy Joel - Piano Man, Only the Good Die Young, We Didn't Start the Fire, Captain Jack

Boston - More than a Feeling, Piece of Mind, Foreplay/Longtime, Rock n' Roll Band, and the rest of their debut album

Credence Clearwater Revival - Fortunate Son, Travelin' Band, Down on the Corner, Lookin' Out my Back Door, Bad Moon Rising

Bruce Springsteen - Glory Days, Born to Run, Hungry Heart, Born in the USA

And depending on what you want you can throw in pretty much anything on Queen and Journey's greatest hits, Meatloaf, Joe Walsh (Rocky Mountain Way, Life's Been Good, etc), and China Grove is an absolute must.

Just one man's opinions..

Jump on Piratebay and search for 'Top USA Singles'... there should be four torrents... grab them all.

Upon completion, you will have the Top 100 songs on the Billboard charts for every year from 1946 through 2005.

THEN, search for 'SuperHits of the 70s', and grab that... that will give you another 25 albums of groovy 70s tunes

Lastly, search for and grab 'Top 500 Rock and Roll Songs'.

You should now be well on your way

Aerosmith - Dream On,

the best song when showing still pictures of sports highlights. Also, during New Years, I love when they play this song when showing pictures of events that happened thru the year.

Definately, the best classic rock highlight song.

ANYTHING by Yngwie Malmsteen if you're into guitar soloists. Hits? No. Good? Yes, I've even heard greatness used and do not object to the use in this instance.

A little more "laid back"?

Captain Beyond is second to none in this "sub-genre" of R&R.

Another classic rock guitarist maybe?

Ronnie Montrose in his debut with the band "Montrose".

And about as close as I get to "classic punk rock", are The Tubes.

As is the case now, the "really good stuff" you don't hear much about.

If your checking the top one hundred singles you'll never hear the good stuff. Back in the 70's the classic rockers were buying albums not singles. The people who like the Carpenters and The Yellow Ribbon guy (forgot name) bought singles. Do a top selling album search.

Some songs the every local band did ..

Urih Heep - Stealing

Deep Purple - Space Trucking, Highway Star, Smoke On The Water

Rolling Stones - Live With Me

Grand Funk Rairoad- Some Kind Of Wonderful, We're An Ameican Band

Jethroe Tull - Aqualung

Led Zepplin- Stairway To Heaven, Rock and Roll

Mott The Hoople- Ready For Love, Sweet Jane

Lynard Skynard - Gimmie Three Steps, Freebird, Simple Man
